iCM Favorite Movies Challenge (2021–2022)

#1

Post by connordenney »

Goal:
Watch as many movies as you can from the iCM Forum's Favorite Movies List (2021 Edition).

Rules:
- Any single item on the list counts as an entry. This means that Berlin Alexanderplatz and Duck Amuck will each count as one point.
- Rewatches not allowed, though they are good for the soul.

Challenge runs until the next update in April 2022.

List:

Participants:

connordenney - 5
klaus78 - 3
beasterne - 2
Fergenaprido - 1

Seen: 593/1001
Highest unseen: #081 Mirror (Andrei Tarkovsky, 1975)

Starting the new thread. One question for people who intend to participate: Would you want rewatches to be allowed? I never have allowed them in this challenge every year, but seems like we're moving in that direction as a forum. This was originally intended to be a challenge for people who wanted to make their way through the list, but no need to keep it that way if others disagree.

I keep thinking I'm going to stop participating in this challenge, but then I keep joining every year. :P

I don't care if rewatches are allowed or not. It's not a challenge I seek to win, just one I use to keep track of my progress on the list. I went from 603 to 594 after the update (and from 88 to 85 of the top 100, which almost completely set me back to where I was a year ago [84]), and it feels like there were a lot of changes this year compared to others, so there should be plenty of unseen films that appeal to me. Probably won't hit either target, but hey, something to shoot for. Besides, it's about the journey not the destination, right? ... Right?

If I can find a list of them on icm, I'll also track the runners up this year (1002-2000) since those films have a chance to break (back) into the Top 1001.

Starting at 594/1001 and 85/100.
Targets are 650/1001 and 90/100.
Currently at 594/1001 and 85/100.

As always, BOLD will be on my list for next year, ITALICS might make it.
