I thought I might enjoy this more returning to it after many years. I didn't bank on just how irritating Jar Jar Binks actually is. Even when he's not on screen, the irritation lingers because of how dull most of the other characters are. The special effects still look good, though.

Reinterpretation of the Frankenstein story, with John Hurt as a scientist from our future who is transported, along with his intelligent car, back to 19th century Switzerland, where he meets the author of Frankenstein, the future Mary Shelley. It's a woolly fantasy, but engaging, unpredictable and well acted.

Profile of futurist Jacque Fresco. The documentary mostly just leaves Fresco to expound on his designs and philosophy; how he believes our societies will function in the future, with little commentary. And while this is good for getting a feel for Fresco's personality and enthusiasm for his work, it doesn't help us place him in context or evaluate his contributions. Several of the designs we see are now with us or being developed, but since we don't know when he thought them up, nor whether he simply foresaw them as possibilities or created more practical designs, it's hard to tell whether he was simply an imaginative dreamer or an unacknowledged genius. I suspect more the former.

Been rewatching a lot of Red Dwarf episodes I'd not rated. By this stage the show is largely past its heyday, probably due to the exit of one of the co-creators/writers. A lot of the gags fall flat.
63. Freejack (1992 / Geoff Murphy) 5/10
This seemed to improve as it went along. The premise is that in the future, healthy people from the past are teleported into the future moments before they die in order to have their bodies used as vessels for the consciousnesses of ageing rich bad guys. Emilio Estevez plays one of the victims who escapes before his body can be harvested, thus he becomes a 'Freejack'. He seems to have already had his personality removed before the film was shot, though, and he looks more like Rene Russo's son rather than her lover (although kind of makes sense in the context of the film). But the rest of the cast do better. It could stand for a remake.

Young's 'Corridor of Mirrors', while not tagged as fantasy on IMDb, is very much a high fantasy in the Cocteau mould; a fantasy existing alongside and within the outwardly visible manifestations of existence. Labyrinthine, hypnotic, unsettling, it stands as a unique and memorable piece of post-War British film-making.

The fantastical forms more of a backdrop in 'Coyote Waits', a Native American motif there in minds and consciousness. The presence of the shaman as a figure and the allusions to the coyote as a figure waiting to pounce give it this air of the mystical, the traditional, the folkloric. It is primarily a crime thriller though and a middling one at that, I thought.

Concur. Last thing, realized I was using a 60- rather than 80-minute rule when counting Lovecraft Country so my official tally is actually 15, not 17.
