01. #718 Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Céline Sciamma, 2019)
Update brought me from 801 to 822 with highest unseen #142 Jagten. Unlikely that I will match my numbers of last year (I would have to get to platinum) but this is a list that I will check when coming up with my watchlists for challenges.
1. Fires on the Plain (1959, Ichikawa) 7

Seven left:
1/7 - Prisoners (Denis Villeneuve, 2013) Absolute illogical garbage. Some good acting and cinematography though. It tried to make you forget all the stupid things in the plot.

1. #630 India Song (1975, Marguerite Duras): 7.0 - I didn't hate it, nor loved it (Which seem to be the two main reactions to this.) It's tedious at times but it does succeed in capturing the boredom and purposelessness that the characters feel in a foreign country, which is enhanced by the sublime score (the best thing of this movie) and the deliberate framing (lots of mirrors) is superb.
2. #726 Edvard Munch (1974, Peter Watkins): 8.0 - This unconventional biographical movie about the painter Edvard Munch is a high point of Watkins filmed documentary style in which he reconstructs events on film using non-professional actors. What is even more memorable is the editing; the movie constantly intercuts between timelines, with the same shots coming back frequently at different moments in the film. This continuously intercutting accentuates how a few key experiences formed Munch as a person and an artist. Regarding the later the movie highlights the influence of Munch personal emotions on his art (instead of artistic influences as is common in art history), which is excellently conveyed through the constant intercutting to those formative key events while painting. What might be even more remarkable is how the movie successfully balances these two contrasting uses of time; the chronological retelling of events and the constant shifting between timelines. Through this balance it succeeds in showing both the social political climate in late 19th century North-West Europe as well as the personal emotional live of Munch.

A year in the life of a middle-class family's maid in Mexico City in the early 1970s.

I thought the visuals in this were stunning. Been putting this off for a while now, not sure why.

An actress suffers an emotional uproar in her personal life after a fan dies trying to see her.

This took me a little while to get into it but then I started to enjoy it as I got more invested in the characters.

3. #429 Scener ur ett äktenskap [Scenes from a Marriage] (1973, Ingmar Bergman): 8.8 - This is the first time I've seen the tv mini-series version and the added length makes this is honest and unflinching portrayal of marriage in all it ups and downs even better. It is at it best when it cuts out all secondary characters and focuses entirely on its two protagonists locked almost episode long scenes discussions.. Like Bergman himself said about these characters: “They have grown rather contradictory, sometimes anxiously childish, sometimes pretty grown-up. They talk quite a lot of rubbish, now and then saying something sensible. They are nervous, happy, selfish, stupid, kind, wise, self-sacrificing, affectionate, angry, gentle, sentimental, insufferable and lovable”, or simply said purely flawed humans, and therefor immensely recognizable. Of course all this stands or falls with the acting, luckily Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson give what surely rank among their career best performances.

898. What We Do in the Shadows (2014) - 6/10
Viago, Deacon and Vladislav are vampires who are finding that modern life has them struggling with the mundane - like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

I thought that this was pretty stupid when I started watching it but then I got sucked in and actually I quite liked it!
937. Darbareye Elly (2009) - 6/10
The mysterious disappearance of a kindergarten teacher during a picnic in the north of Iran is followed by a series of misadventures for her fellow travelers.

This gives me back the IMDB Mystery Platinum
988. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) - 6.5/10
A faded television actor and his stunt double strive to achieve fame and success in the film industry during the final years of Hollywood's Golden Age in 1969 Los Angeles.

992. Room (2015) - 8/10
Held captive for 7 years in an enclosed space, a woman and her young son finally gain their freedom, allowing the boy to experience the outside world for the first time.

It sucked me in right from the start. Pretty decent thriller.
