Some rewatches this time:

13. The Killing Fields (1984) (rewatch): 8.5 > 8.5
14. Peeping Tom (1960) (rewatch): 9.0 > 8.8
15. The Browning Version (1994): 8.5 > 8.2 - Overal not as great as the 1951 version, it's more sentimental than that version was in my memory, but a very strong Albert Finney still lifts this up to being a very good movie on its own.
16. 63 Up (2019): 7.5 - Another solid entry in this interesting series. But this one suffers even more than others from being more than half recap, which leaves very little time left to in-depth interviews of their lives now
17. The Innocents (1961) (rewatch): 8.5 > 8.5 - Beautiful cinematography and very solid acting from Deborah Kerr. But what makes this really good is how through both the writing and Clayton's directing the movie is completely ambigious about whether something supernatural is going on or it's all imagined by Kerr's character.
18. Breakfast on Pluto (2005) (rewatch): 8.5 > 6.8
SpoilerShow
1. Stormy Monday (1988, Mike Figgis): 6.0
2. Pulp (1972, Mike Hodges): 6.5
3. Two for the Road (1967, Stanley Donen): 7.2
4. Jabberwocky (1977, Terry Gilliam): 6.0 -
5. Mona Lisa (1986, Neil Jordan): 7.2
6. Cul-de-sac (1966, Roman Polanski): 8.0
7. Jamaica Inn (1939): 7.5
8. Paddington (2014): 7.0 -
9. North Sea Hijack [Ffolkes] (1979): 7.0
10. Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988): 7.8
11. Hobson's Choice (1954): 7.8
12. A Zed & Two Noughts (1985): 6.8

This is easily one of the best entries in the series with excellent period sets and costumes - as well as lots of fun from Sid James sabotaging a duel and donning several disguises. Charles Hawtrey has also rarely been funnier, sprouting some hilarious one liners during his beheading scene (see above). The film loses its way a bit towards the end as routine swashbuckling takes up more focus than witty lines and gags, but this is a pretty great ride.

24. King & Country (Joseph Losey, 1964)
A pretty good WWI movie that could have been titled "Shit & Rat" because there's plenty of both in the movie. The first scene is literally soldiers shoveling shit out of a latrine, which gives you an immediate sense of what the filmmakers want to convey about life on the Western front. This movie will unfortunately suffer unfavorable comparisons to Paths of Glory because it's also concerned with a military trial. There are significant differences between the two movies, though.

40. Summertime (1955)

Directed by David Lean, this at times feels like an attempt at another Brief Encounter and the final few minutes are very well done. The movie lacks tension and urgency though and the relationship never really seems as doomed or futile as the characters make it out to be. It is only around halfway in that the romance even kicks into gear with the majority of the film spent on Katharine Hepburn filming the Venetian setting on her Super-8 camera.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

39. Don't Lose Your Head (1967)
That exchange followed immediately by sol's entry is the most hilarious thing I've seen today... :circle:
 It didn't even occur to me to watch that one this month, but yeah, that would have been a pretty cool coincidental viewing to plan.

More palatable than fellow hospital-bound Carry On Nurse with less female objectification, this entry benefits from a great turn by Frankie Howerd as a patient who mistakenly believes that he is at death's door. Some of the same weaknesses as Nurse are present though. The film feels extremely episodic as it bounces between several main characters. Confining the characters to hospital beds also limits the possible gags. The rooftop bit was fun though.

Mai Zetterling - who radiates a hopeful humanity in the wake of devastating conflict as the German girl eliciting an uncertain reaction in an English town on election footing; a beautiful, delicate performance coursing with understanding and compassion; poignancy, guilt and redemptiveness and the difficult path to acceptance and open-mindedness; the scene in the cinema with the newsreel of the concentration camps and her uncomfortable horror and shame is a shattering moment of engulfing realisation; 'Frieda' is a message film of considerable power and intelligence that embraces the rekindling glow of friendship without shying away from the difficult, deeply felt misgivings and distrust of some:

''I’m delighted to be bringing Lahinch and its folk to screens around Ireland as I found it to be a surprisingly special place. I set out to make a different kind of surf film, one that went beyond the hype of some surf films to find the quiet truth of what it means to choose to be a surfer, how it impacts your entire life in myriad different ways. Living at the edge of the Atlantic in Ireland’s wild west is hard – rain is heavy, winds are strong and waves are monstrous. But for the right person it’s a cold paradise living along that incredible coastline.” - Ross Whitaker

Possibly the best of the comedy team's medical entries; focused on the staff rather than the patients for a change, the movie has a more solid (less episodic) plot and some very funny wordplay gags in addition to the usual shenanigans. The film also nicely ventures beyond the confines of the hospital location. Not all of the gags work, but there is a fun Wilfred Brambell cameo and Barbara Windsor's hearts outfit needs to be seen to be believed.

42. Carry On Again Doctor (1969) REVISION
Damn it, if I started earlier I might've taken top 5 in this challenge, would've been a first
The easiest way to make it into the top 5 of any challenge is by focusing on just that one for an entire month. The more popular challenges will always be pretty hard to penetrate, but 60 viewings (an average of two per day) would be enough to crack the top 5 in the vast majority of challenges, if that's your goal. In any case, it's longer before it hits September on your side of the world, so you technically could still overtake me here, though that still wouldn't guarantee you a top 5 position since I might still get overtaken myself as the hours left in August slowly tick away...

Hardly the best Carry On film despite its reputation; the gags at the expense of the pompous Brits are great, but the film makes fun of the subjugated Indians too. The movie also descends into chaos towards the end and hardly concludes on a strong note. It is, however, easy to appreciate what fans of the film like: a hilarious "rank stupidity" tug at the Rank Organisation, the initial confusion over lost underwear, great sets/locations and costumes etc.

150. That's Carry On (1979) Gerald Thomas, UK 40 checks [double]

And that's it. But even after 31 movies (I had seen 10 before this challenge) and 3 christmas specials I'm still not done. They had one more christmas special plus the TV series Carry On Laughing. But I've had my fill for quite some time.

Thanks for hosting, clemmetarey!

07. West 11, by Michael Winner (1963) 6,5/10

A curious film that stands between the social dramas of its time, and genre. Not bad, but not entirely successful.

With eleven main characters, certain plot threads and individuals are more interesting to follow than others here, but all concerned are in very good form and this is funnier if anything upon revision. Barbara Windsor's wardrobe malfunctions are of course what this entry is best known for, but an irate, trigger-happy father provides many laughs too; same goes for Kenneth Williams being constantly tricked by his students and the theatre opening scene.

A double feature to cheer max up after my 39th viewing for this Challenge disappointed him. ;)

45. 45 Years (2015)

This film is best known for netting Rampling her first and only Oscar nomination and the film lives and breathes due to her performance and her subtle changes of facial expression as she begins to question her husband's past. Alas, there is little to the film beyond this dynamic; Tom Courtenay is rather muted as the husband and the whole things ends abruptly without any sense of resolution. Rampling and her character are certainly interesting though.

46. Code 46 (2003)

A blend of sci-fi and romance with quite a few similarities to Eternal Sunshine. Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton do not share particularly great chemistry together though and a subplot involving viruses that are manufactured (to create greater empathy, improve one's singing voice etc.) ends up being more interesting than the strained love story. The concept is not half-bad, but less mushiness and warmer characters may have gone a long way.

And with less than half an hour until midnight, that's it for me this round. Thanks for hosting, clem!
