I have my average at 41,26 now? Or 73,87.
I'm not doing any adjustments for shorts for the bonus challenge - so the check count for those gets averaged the same way as features. 66.7 is the simple average for the 50 titles you've reported in this thread - did I miss something?

That took way longer to figure out than it should have. I mistakenly recorded the cumulative time from your shorts block rather than the check count. I'll update OP in a sec.

17a. Game Tengoku (1997) first check (I actually added this one to IMDB also)
Very manic, wacky mecha fighting action. So this one has a bit of a back story to it. It was originally packaged as a VHS bonus to the Sega Saturn game of the same name in Japan only back in 1997. It was only just recently released in the US earlier this year as a DVD packaged in the Limited Run collector's edition re-release of the original game. So basically it was originally limited in nature and still continues to be.

Image
17b. Typhoon No Noruda (2015) 6 checks
A beautifully animated but skimpy on plot story of a mysterious girl that shows up on a small island, bringing a big devastating storm with her. It definitely feels very rushed but isn't a bad way to spend 30 minutes.

Image
17c. Bungaku Shôjo - Kyô no Oyatsu Hatsukoi (2009) 3 checks

Image
18. Kidou senshi Gandamu: The Origin V - Gekitotsu Ruumu kaisen (2017) 3 checks
In movie 5, a major battle is in full force, showcasing Char's mobile suit fighting prowess. More political machinations at play here and the story is definitely escalating into what hopes to be a big climax in the next and last movie.

Image
19. Caught in the Draft (1941) 56 checks
While mildly amusing, it feels much more conventional than Bob Hope's ultra wacky, 4th wall breaking Road series with Bing Crosby.

Image
20. Steppenwolf (1974) 161 checks
So for a big chunk of the runtime I was kind of curious as to why it ended up on the Certified Weird list. But the last third of the movie definitely puts it squarely in that camp. Also Max Von Sydow is pretty great as usual.

8. The happy prince (UK etc. 18) [109 ch] - double
I've been fascinated with Wilde since high school and found this tremendously moving. There seemed to be a truth to it that cut through Wilde's posing in a way that few movies about him do.

A CNN docuseries about the 80s. Pretty fun to watch, since I remember a bit of it. Television and Music episodes were my favorites, as I know those more; much of the news/political stuff I was too young to "get". But Wife got more out of it, since she remembers more.

I love that special. For some reason, he just works for me - the dry humor, the delivery, everything just makes me laugh. I've actually been falling asleep to him because I listen to him so much and know the special.

Back from 5 weeks in the Philippines, where I only watched one movie. So rested-up and ready to watch a few obscure ones.

Image

1. Annapolis Salute (1937, Christy Cabanne) - 7th checks - 3/10
--- Got likable people, but Annapolis Salute (1937) is remarkably uneventful and cheap-looking by RKO standards. Most interesting thing about the movie is the early role for Van Heflin on support. Highly routine role, impossible to excel in, but still the best thing about this programmer.

Image

2. The Footloose Heiress (1937, William Clemens) - 7th checks - 4/10
--- Taming of a rich brat. Ann Sheridan gets the treatment she deserved from hobo Craig Reynolds. Not among Sheridan's most memorable roles, but she sure was feisty at times! Reynolds probable came out of this material the best, as Sheridan's performance was a little half-hearted in the softer scenes. The rugged leading man was well suited for his role.

Image

3. Salama fi khair [Everything Is Fine] (1937, Niazi Mostafa) - 8th check - 5/10
--- I didn't even know what to expect when jumping into this Egyptian comedy from the 1930s, but it was genuinely funny at times. Had I been more prepared for this pleasant experience, I would probable have enjoyed it even more. Certainly one to seek out if wanting a classic film from a more obscure movie country.

Image

4. Ritt in die Freiheit [Ride to Freedom] (1937, Karl Hartl) - 3rd check - 4/10
--- Has the elegant touch of it's director Karl Hartl, but the story struggles for long periods to become anything engaging. Does pick itself up nicely toward the end, but it rarely sparkled like his best films.

Image

5. Le ruisseau [The Stream] (1938, Maurice Lehmann & Claude Autant-Lara) - 1st check - 5/10
--- A pleasant French drama, part-comedy. Not as meddling as most French speaking films can be, and Michel Simon & Françoise Rosay certainly gave this portions of their quirky nature. The romance with the younger couple had it's charm, though the romance drifted a bit instead of sparkling all the way through. Fine rarely seen film.

Image

6. Coming Out Party (1934, John G. Blystone) - 2nd check - 4/10
--- More than anything, a gentle class-divided romance. Coming Out Party (1934) is hardly the most melodramatic of it's kind, but it's got it's ups and downs. Gene Raymond takes it easy, almost in the background compared to everybody else's meddling. Brings more nice moments than bad, so in that way, a pleasant and somewhat forgettable love story.

Image

7. Second Wife (1930, Russell Mack) - 2nd check - 3/10
--- Women.... I mean.... what a script! I'm using this film as an excuse never to remarry! Warning: Can cause a headaches.

Image

8. Just a Gigolo (1931, Jack Conway) - 21st check - 6/10
--- Just a Gigolo (1931) is among the last sound pictures of William Haines I needed to track down, and it was quite good. Haines tones down his obnoxious level enough for the flirting not to get annoying. Having C. Aubrey Smith there as his uncle/sidekick helped give this a different dynamic than his other box office hits, and you get to experience Irene Purcell as this was the start of her very brief Hollywood career. The result is snappy fun!

Image

9. The Rider of Death Valley (1932, Albert S. Rogell) - 2nd check - 6/10
--- Got a ton of quirkiness about it, like just about every western made that decade, but it tries so many awesome ideas that The Rider of Death Valley (1932) really is one of the most essential B-westerns of the 1930s!

Image

10. The Lad (1935, Henry Edwards) - 2nd check - 4/10
--- The always lovable Gordon Harker starring in a Edgar Wallace crime story! Comedy one at that. Honestly, they could have done a lot more with this one, but it made me smile regardless. Harker has that effect.

I have a question: "Exit 91 Summerland" (https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/exit+91+summerland/) has been re-released 2013 under the title "1972 Yellow House" with a much shorter runtime. Does this still count as the same movie? So, when I've seen "1972 Yellow House", can I check "Exit 91 Summerland" on iCM?

Back from 5 weeks in the Philippines, where I only watched one movie. So rested-up and ready to watch a few obscure ones.
You're back! I was hoping you were going to come defend your title...

Not sure - if you don't get an answer here, you might have better luck in the Film Lounge that more people read.

It should have been listed as an alternative version on umdb, not it's own page based on your explanation

In his final starring role, Anthony Quinn is solid here as the quirky elderly protagonist, waxing poetic about the human bonding that facial orifice-sharing brings, and there are some simply uncanny moments as him and his servants move about as one entity - even scaring off armed robbers at one point. His "experiment" leaves open some unanswered questions, but this is an enjoyably offbeat look at an eccentric man realising an unconventional romantic fantasy; sort of like The Human Centipede crossed with a 70s or 80s Cronenberg movie - except totally devoid of horror and with a homoerotic subtext.

True, true. I guess I'll count it as the same movie.

This Norman Wisdom comedy features a nifty Fistful of Dollars spoof (see above) and some very funny moments with Edward Chapman once again in good from. The plot mostly just consists though of mounting nastiness between two dairies. Some of the ways in which Wisdom tries to get his own back are weird too; there is some amusement in him sabotaging a CEO's golf game incognito, but how exactly it is meant to help his milk company is unclear.

21. Ladybird Ladybird (1994) 328 checks
Jesus... what a gut-wrenching movie... Crissy Rock's acting is fantastic in this. By the end I was left both heart-broken and frustrated. It was just devastating watching her kids being taken away from her one after the other but also frustrating at how she reacted in the world ways possible to exacerbate the problem.

Image
22. Jailbait Babysitter (1977) 11 checks
There's a line in the MST3K episode of Manos: Hands of Fate that goes something like "every frame of this movie looks like someone's last known photo". I think that comment could equally apply to this underage gallivant through a sleazy wonderland.

Image
23. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin VI - Rise of the Red Comet (2018) 3 checks
A nice finish to an excellent series that leads right into the beginning of the original 0079 Gundam series. If you are at all interested in anime, I definitely recommend checking Gundam Origin out.

25. Oh, Hello on Broadway (2017) 130 checks
What seems on the surface like a threadbare Saturday Night Live sketch stretched to movie length (a la Superstar or It's Pat) ends up becoming a hilariously detailed character work of two old Jewish guys who are abnormally into Steely Dan and tuna courtesy of John Mulaney and Nick Kroll. Their chemistry is great and the writing and adlibs are wall-to-wall really funny.

Image
26. The Avenging Hand (1937) 5 checks
Eh? A gangster from America goes to London and decides to investigate a murder... Aside from the odd setup, it's a pretty breezy, pleasant mystery that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Image
27. In the Soup (1992) 357 checks
Coming out in the middle of an era where black-and-white, loosely plotted indie flicks (see also Stranger than Paradise, Border Radio and Clerks) were all the rage, In The Soup sets itself apart with some really strong acting work from Buscemi is the type of role that has always worked well for him and Cassel who's just a freight train for chaos here. It's kind of funny and moderately entertaining but ultimately isn't the best of its kind.

04. 2.5* - And Everything Is Going Fine by Steven Soderbergh (2010 - USA) -- 319 checks
Nice doc on Spalding Gray, though maybe a little too focused on his work and monologues. While they are primarily stories about himself and his family, Gray literally explains their poetic foundation, which makes them less fit for a documentary. Even so, a decent portrait of a man with an interesting life and fine career.

05. 3.5* - Brightburn by David Yarovesky (2019 - USA) -- 289 checks (seriously though - this had a wide release?)
A pretty amusing, evil take on Superman. The horror beats are surprisingly effective while the superhero nonsense clearly takes a back seat. It's a shame the film isn't mean-spirited enough, though the ending does its best to add some extra grit to the film. A welcome variation on some tired old tropes, but the execution lacked that extra bit of spice.

SpoilerShow
01. 3.5* - How to Become Myself [Ashita no Watashi no Tsukurikata] by Jun Ichikawa (2007 - Japan) -- 28 checks
Fine coming of age drama, where two girls learn how to balance their individual and social personas. There's also a strong focus on digital communication, but since that is so ubiquitous nowadays it doesn't really make a big impression any more. There are plenty of similar dramas, but Ichikawa's direction does give it some added flair.

02. 1.5* - The Fate of Lee Khan [Ying Chun Ge Zhi Fengbo] by King Hu (1973 - Taiwan) -- 58 checks
A lesser entry in King Hu's oeuvre. It's clear by now that he loves remote inns, but without some decent fight choreography and with a strong focus on a storyline that fails to excite, it takes way too long to get going. It's all a little disappointing, especially since Hu has some decent entries in his oeuvre that predate this one by several years.

03. 2.0* - Project Ithaca by Nicholas Humphries (2019 - Canada) -- 7 checks
Solid concept, but the execution is pretty poor and Project Ithaca often feels like a collage of other films. Some mediocre performances, boring characters and rather basic special effects make it needlessly hard to get into the film and ultimately there isn't all that much to keep you interested. This is mediocre genre filler for fans only.

Hah! I suspect this is the case with a lot of people around here. Just a matter of whether they want to post their watches in this thread.
