It's ok since you said these were Cage movies, so I'll find them. But remember to add (year) in the future.

Copy and paste, it takes a second.

5. Geostorm (2017) 5.3 on IMDb

Gerard Butler plays a maverick scientist here and the film spends far too much time developing a sibling rivalry when the special effects are the chief sell-point. While some of the stunt driving scenes towards the end are a little silly, all of the disaster segments are well crafted and imaginative, with some truly breathtaking moments as Hong Kong overheats and bursts into flames, as Rio de Janeiro freezes and lightning plagues an American freeway.
I mean, I'd agree that the film had some nice effects, but I generally just thought watching that one made me stupider.

22. The Mangler (1995) South Africa | UK | Australia 493 checks {4.1 rating / 7 754 votes] [double] [rewatch - I had forgotten I had seen it before]
23. Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star (2011) USA 312 checks {3.7 rating / 10 682 votes - bottom 100: #64]
Happy Madison production. At least it would be worse if Sandler was lead.
24. Keith Lemon: The Film (2012) UK 84 checks {2.6 rating / 3 956 votes]
Completely destroyed by Kermode.
25. Mega Piranha (2010) USA 1 official list 349 checks {2.5 rating / 5 148 votes] [double]

28. Daddy Day Camp (2007) USA 928 checks {3.4 rating / 14 466 votes - bottom 100: #43]
I have seen camp movies that is a lot worse than this (Fred 3) so it's only fault is that it is unoriginal.
29. 1313: Actor Slash Model (2011) USA | Canada 4 checks {3.5 rating / 84 votes] [double]
30. Bigfoot vs. D.B. Cooper (2014) USA 5 checks {1.5 rating / 167 votes]
Seems that David DeCoteau is the goto-guy for several of us in this challenge. But this is at his later stage of his career when he makes everything (incl. these two) in the same house. When you're not sure if the movies are made for women or gay men (or for aliens). He's been directing for 35 years, but quality wise it looks like he's been directing for 35 minutes. I have no idea how he manage to make money out of these movies, but they are basically shot in a week, so the costs are quite low. He made thirteen 1313-movies over two years for example.

Previously watched...Show
1. Blood Feast (Walz, 2016) 4.9 on IMDb
2. Soul Survivors (Carpenter, 2001) 3.9 on IMDb
50% Carnival of Souls, 50% teen drama, 100% illogical and plotless script. This one boasts some incongruous acting talent in the form of Wes Bentley and Casey Affleck, but they have nothing to work with and phone in their performances.

3. Piranha Part Two: The Spawning / Piranha II: Flying Killers (Cameron-Assonitis, 1981) 3.6 on IMDb
James Cameron's inauspicious debut! A cheap and generic Jaws-ripoff, though I suppose it's interesting to see the beginnings of Cameron's fascination with underwater photography and his first collaboration with Lance Henriksen.

11. 2 Lava 2 Lantula (Nick Simon-2016) 28 checks {4.4 / 852 votes}
More of the same. Although this new director likes including blatant homages to better movies (Jurassic Park & Dr. Strangelove to name a couple), which actually made it better.
12. Anaconda (Luis Llosa-1997) 9,934 checks, 2 Official Lists {4.7 / 87,488 votes}
It definitely doesn't deserve it's low score and bad reputation. It's a perfectly good creature feature.
13. Spiders 3D (Tibor Takács-2013) 106 checks {3.4 / 3,815 votes}
Not terrible, the first act had some good tension and build up, but it kinda meanders in the third act. It's obviously low budget, but working hard to cover it up. I'm starting to suspect that I'm seeing the same CGI spiders digitally added in over and over. I think I'm done with them. Although the director also has a tv movie called "Ice Spiders" which might be worth tracking down to bookend this challenge.

01. The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1964) 416 checks 54 dislikes, 2.3 imdb 4,459 votes.
There's no way this is the tied-3rd worst film watched for this challenge. This was fantastic. I 100% believe David Lynch watched this and was influenced by it. Too many similarities for it to be a coincidence. My only complaint, and it's more a "of the period" rather than strictly a "this film" problem, but this is a movie where 1/2 the characters and 95% of the onscreen talent are strippers and yet if you combined all their ass meat you probably couldn't manage a single modern cheek. Seriously. These strippers got concave butts.

@Kublai Khan: I love when crappy movies make allusions to better ones - it brings a self-awareness to it so the viewer knows the director is in on the joke. And I'm with you on Anaconda - I think that's a lot of fun!

2. Planet of the Sharks (2016) - 2.7
3. All Girls Weekend (2016) - 3.9

5. Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre (2015) - 3.3
6. Independents' Day (2016) - 2.0
This isn't even the right thread for comments on this. You have to work hard to have a rating this low on IMDB... and this film worked pretty hard.

I dunno. The storyline certainly has some issues with lots of pseudoscience and overly elaborate exposition in the mix, but I genuinely like the basic idea of humankind threatened by various natural disasters and weather calamities; it kind of speaks volumes of vulnerability as a species when the biggest threat to lives is not guns or war but something that (except in the context of the movie, of course) is out of our control. Or maybe I simply just liked the movie a lot more than I expected to. A pleasant surprise in any case.

Jon Voight seems so devious throughout here that it is surprising that it takes everyone else so long to realise that he might have a hidden agenda regarding the large snakes, but this is an okay ride. The snake special effects are very good with the anaconda's extreme speed more impressive than its looks, and there are some great shots of it digesting whole bodies and plummeting through the air to catch victims, plus a cool inside-throat shot.

Yeah, I know I don't know much about the business world of movie-making. I figure they make crappy movies because those movies make a bit of profit that they can use to fund other, better stuff. I figure a lot of people making those movies know that they are crap, but it's a paycheck. But for the director to use the opportunity to imitate/practice the "masters" is a pleasant little dash of ambition.

I thought this was the best analysis of Voight's role in Anaconda:

2. La Belgique martyre (Belgium 1919) - double [4.9] out of 9 ratings
I found this on youtube when researching the Children & War list - let's just say that if you want a good actioner/gorefest about the horrors of war, this ain't it.

I thought this was the best analysis of Voight's role in Anaconda:
Oh yeah - I kept trying to amuse myself by thinking of Anaconda as an uncredited sequel to Midnight Cowboy in which Joe Buck went off the deep end after that bus ride and became fascinated with snakes - however, the accent kept throwing me off. :pinch:

This Dutch thriller focuses on a female doctor who begins an affair with a neighbour who may or may not be a serial killer. With The 4th Man's Renée Soutendijk in the lead, this is initially rather interesting as a potential gender reversal of the Verhoeven movie, but it is nowhere near as mysterious or atmospheric. The "is he or isn't he?" dilemma also becomes tiresome as the film plods along and keeps injecting conflicting evidence. Soutendijk is very good though grappling with whether or not she wants to know if the charming man (who is also a perfect surrogate father for her son) is a killer.

@Kublai Khan: I love when crappy movies make allusions to better ones - it brings a self-awareness to it so the viewer knows the director is in on the joke.
One of the more interesting examples of this I've seen is with Mimic 3. These direct-to-video sequels rarely have much in the way of studio oversight as long as they stay under budget, so you end up occasionally with a director trying to do something interesting or different (see also the Hyam's Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning). With Mimic 3, it's basically a remake of Rear Window but with the Mimic creature doing the killing across the way. I wouldn't say it's a great movie, but it does at least have higher aspirations than your typical bargain basement DTV sequel. Incidentally both Mimic 3 and Universal Soldier: day of Reckoning (which is legitimately MUCH better than its 5.1 IMDB score alludes to) are eligible for this challenge.

My main problem with Geostorm is that obviously was made by Emmerich to be squarely in B-Movie territory but just doesn't deliver enough of the titular Geostorms. The endless exposition just killed this movie for me. I've been entertained by garbage Syfy and Asylum movies more than this one honestly.

Short 9 minute documentary where Kenne Duncan shows his amazing shooting skills. Of course, it's an Ed Wood movie, so it's not shot particularly well, but artfully intercut with lots of cool old posters and advertising for Duncan shows.

Who thought it would be a good idea with a rom "com" with Paris Hilton and Jason Mewes. Kevin Smith is also in it, but they're not Jay and Silent Bob, that would actually be interesting so they can't do that.

1. Ibiza Undead / Zombie Spring Breakers (2016) - 3.3
2. Planet of the Sharks (2016) - 2.7
3. All Girls Weekend (2016) - 3.9
4. Psycho (1998) - 4.6
5. Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre (2015) - 3.3
6. Independents' Day (2016) - 2.0
7. The Hottie & the Nottie (2008) - 1.9
As much as I'm loath to say this, it wasn't that bad. It wasn't good, but it wasn't that bad. It's a 4/10 for me. It's over the top, it's ridiculous, it's relatively offensive, it's cliched, but it's so much less of all of those than I thought it would be. By no means would I recommend this to anyone without a severe head injury, but it's not quite deserving of its 1.9 average on IMDB.

Under considerable makeup and unbecoming outfits, Neville Archambault is well cast as a creepy landlord who often seems spaced out, yet the film never focuses on him. Copious time is instead dedicated to a young couple renting a house from him, unaware that it is rigged with hidden security cameras that Archambault watches from home for unknown reasons. And that is with an emphasis on 'unknown' as it is over halfway in before anything grisly or traditionally horror-like occurs. Even then, it is hard to say what Archambault's motives are and whether he wants to help/hurt his occupants.

9. 14 Cameras (2018) 4.5 on IMDb

Image

This sequel delves further into the depravity of the slumlord, once again played with relish by Neville Archambault. It is a surprisingly superior effort. The film is more focused as the horror begins earlier on, Archambault gets more screen time, and best of all, we get some background on him, his motives and what he does with all of his footage. The dark web and live streaming angle is particularly nifty with Archambault actually getting a chance to show some humanity as he encounters anonymous minds more depraved than he is. The conclusion is once again a little unsatisfying though.

10. After Earth (2013) 4.8 on IMDb

Image

As per Shyamalan norm, this film features some very good ideas, most notably the notion that in the future "everything has evolved to kill humans" on Earth as a reaction to our neglect and pollution. There is also the nifty idea that "fear is a choice" and can be controlled with enough training. Will Smith has some touching scenes too as he is plagued by memories of a deceased daughter. Alas, the focus here is a strained father-son relationship between Smith and son Jaden, who has the acting talent of a wooden block, and the story only hits clichés as a 'son proving his worth to his dad tale'.

It's bad, yeah. But it's really no worse than watching a couple of bad SNL or Family Guy episodes back-to-back.

03 patient zero 2018 4.4/10

i don't understand why these kind of movies exist. what is the market for an unironic F-grade zombie movie with C-list actors in 2019?

04 the trust 2016 5.4/10

good fun.

05 211 2018 4.4/10

a movie this bad should not be this boring.
