I'm at 506 after the update.
Highest unseen: #036 Ran (Akira Kurosawa, 1985)

In for the 17 I have left ...(hopefully the remastered Satantango is released this year)
I’m in as well, starting the challenge with 922/1001 seen. Don’t think I’ll finish it this year, but will be working towards completion in the following year.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

I'm in again, aiming to get this shit done this time. Although my disposition to watch as much as legal as possible might prevent me doing so.
The WC final made me see my first one already. (Also saw one during the results thread, but won't count that one).
1. #750 Nobi [Fires on the Plain] (1959): 8.2 - This suffered from too high expectations for me,it wasn't the masterpiece I expected it to. Still a very good movie that slowly creeps up on.
Titles in bold are added to my list

Glad you enjoyed Midnight! I'm a big fan of that film, definitely one of the most bonkers plots I've seen filmed.klaus78 wrote: ↑April 12th, 2019, 8:22 pm I had 7 movies unseen on the new list, most of which I've seen during the countdown, so please consider this entry "out of competition".

3. #738 Leave Her to Heaven (1945): 7.5
4. #829 Gaslight (1944): 7.8 - Bergman is very convincing as a insecure woman doubting herself when being... well gaslighted, kind of a pity Boyer isn't as great, than the whole movie would been even better.

6. #720 'I Know Where I'm Going!' (1945): 7.8

At the start of last year I was at 454/1001 and 73/100.
I finished at 506/1001 and 77/100, which was pretty decent progress.
After the update, I'm starting at 500/1000 and 77/100. If I'm focused, I could probably hit 600 & 90, but I'm not sure I want to focus on this list too much this year given my other goals, so I'll settle for 550 and 85.
1. #750 Nobi [Fires on the Plain] (1959) - 7.6
2. #377 Le bonheur [Happiness] (1965) - 7.8
As always, BOLD will be on my list for next year, ITALICS might make it.

February Challenge:
But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

7. #345 A Face in the Crowd (1957): 8.5 - The character of Lonesome Dove exactly walks the tightrope between utterly charming, despicable and pathetic. Of course to use an overused but true cliché: this movie has never been more topical than during this American presidency
