2019's Space Jam Awards

Image

These awards are for those strategic individuals who watched films counting for more than one challenge (and reported them in the Triples Challenge thread). Level up each time you earn this award (max 12 each).

Congratulations our Triplers of the month, who each watched 2 films counting for all three challenges: no one. (u) I guess with a total lack of Chinese, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese movies from the 1930s nominated for an Oscar, that's bound to happen.

And congratulations to our most voracious Doubler of the month who watched 62 films counting for two challenges: psychotronicbeatnik

2019's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the year goes on. Level 6 is currently the maximum possible award, and only 5 people have achieved that. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: albajos, jeroeno, maxwelldeux, OldAle1, sol

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: cinephage, flavo5000, hurluberlu, jdidaco, nimimerkillinen, RogerTheMovieManiac88, weirdboy

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: allisoncm, clemmetarey, Eva_L, frbrown, Knaldskalle, Lonewolf2003, ororama, sebby

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: 3eyes, 72allinncallme, blocho, Coryn, Hunziker, Mate_cosido, mightysparks, psychotronicbeatnik, VincentPrice

Level 2 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 2 films in each of 2 official challenges: blueboybob, ChrisReynolds, connordenney, Daviddoes, India Istanbul, klaus78, Lilarcor, morrison-dylan-fan, Nathan Treadway, peeptoad, PUNQ, RBG, sheikofhyrule, shugs, Simba63, St. Gloede, Traveller

Level 1 - Congrats to all the new participants who have watched at least 1 film for an official challenge: fori, globetrotter, lynchs, mathiasa, max-scl, Melvelet, Minkin, Onderhond, Opio, redcard29, Tarris1, wasabi

After February, we're 6 challenges into the year, and we're at Level 2 as the highest attainable level. We'll open a new level next month.

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges and earned Level 2 of this award this month: 3eyes, albajos, allisoncm, blocho, cinephage, clemmetarey, Coryn, Eva_L, flavo5000, frbrown, funkybusiness, hurluberlu, jdidaco, jeroeno, Knaldskalle, Lonewolf2003, Mate_cosido, maxwelldeux, mightysparks, nimimerkillinen, OldAle1, ororama, RogerTheMovieManiac88, sebby, sol, VincentPrice, vortexsurfer, weirdboy, zzzorf

Congratulations go out to those new participants who watched at least 1 film for an official challenge and earned Level 1 of this award this month: 72allinncallme, fori, globetrotter, lynchs, mathiasa, max-scl, Melvelet, Minkin, Nathan Treadway, Onderhond, Opio, PUNQ, redcard29, Tarris1, wasabi

Upper Threshold

But who powers through the challenges and watches at least five films, aiming for this upper threshold?

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 2 of this award this month: albajos, cinephage, clemmetarey, flavo5000, hurluberlu, jdidaco, jeroeno, Knaldskalle, Lonewolf2003, maxwelldeux, nimimerkillinen, OldAle1, ororama, RogerTheMovieManiac88, sebby, sol, weirdboy

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 1 official challenge with at least five watches and earned Level 1 of this award this month: 72allinncallme, connordenney, fori, globetrotter, mathiasa, max-scl, Minkin, Nathan Treadway, Onderhond, Opio, PUNQ, RBG, redcard29, Tarris1, wasabi

Updated 2019 Leaderboard

The second month of the year is now in the past, and all of the February challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed 1/6 (6) of the challenges for this year! jeroeno has maintained the early lead, and might just be the person to beat this year. albajos leapt up a couple spots to overtake sol for second place. In all, we've had great participation this month, with 15 new people participating in at least one of the official challenges, bringing us to a total of 66. For the 2019 Official Challenge Leaderboard, the top 25 are below; full results can be found in the first post, and last month's results here.

Sure enough, one loser in the top 6 who hasn't picked up a win this year... :pinch:

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to get a leaderboard for each month? I would love to know the full results for just February.

Not that I'm going to complain about being ahead of you max, but I was fully expecting to fall to maybe 5th or 6th this month given my dismal performances in the 1930s and Oscar Challenge and the fact that Invisible Men kept pushing me lower and lower in the 3 Chinas Challenge. Not only that, I'm at less than two points difference from albajos. This is certainly the extra motivation that I need to keep plugging away at the March Challenges to maintain my high rank, though cracking the top 10 of the War Challenge at least is going to be uphill battle since everyone is going hard, like we're going to war like they are competing in Horror Challenge or something.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

It's easy for you to stay ahead of me when you keep beating me in challenges... the difference between us this month was in the China/HK/TW challenge. The other two challenges were mostly a push (we had very similar ranks), but you were four spots higher than me in China/etc. And the breadth vs. depth thing keeps this leaderboard intriguing to me.

Also, did I catch you making a Maroon 5 reference there?

Yeah, sorry about the Maroon 5 reference; couldn't help myself :$ even though I think it is one of their weaker songs. I am in all seriousness amazed by how busy the War Challenge seems to be this year, especially considering that it is up against the most popular Country Challenge and one of the most popular Theme Challenges.

Eh, interesting point. Well, there's no way that I'm going to be able to keep ahead of you in War with the pace that you are going, and I'm not going to concentrate much on France, so I guess I have to blitz the Female Directors Challenge this month to keep my lead above you.

Apologies if I missed something. Is there a place where we can see upcoming challenges, for example what's scheduled for April? I have a very full PVR so to some extent can target what I watch to improve my standing in challenges. Criterion Channel launching in April should help a lot in almost any category ...

How long until someone hits this goal?
May 31st is doable, But there are no triples in either April or May (haven't checked, but seems that way), so you really have to put the hours in.
Yeah, I was also thinking it would take the May challenge for someone (likely you and/or flavo5000) to do it, but then again I've been surprised before...
Actually, I'm thinking I may take it easy next month and just watch whatever tickles my fancy. Although I am considering taking in some Aussie flicks...

This threshold is for those slightly obsessive people who managed to watch 36 films for a single challenge, pacing over 1 film/day.

We had 13 slightly obsessed individuals in March - three people, jeroeno, jdidaco, and RogerTheMovieManiac88 managed to do it in all three challenges! Here is everyone who leveled up this month:

We had four very obsessed individuals in March - one in French, one in Films Directed by Women, and two in War. Congratulations to 72allinncallme, flavo5000, jdidaco, and PUNQ for cresting the 100 watch threshold! flavo500 moves to Level 3, jdidaco, movies to Level 2, and 72allinncallme and PUNQ climbed onto the leaderboard at Level 1.

2019's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After March, we had three more people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to jdidaco, psychotronicbeatnik, and sol for amassing 300 watches after only three months!

2019's 1066 Awards

This award is for those who have tallied 1066 total watches across all official challenges. That's 89 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After March, we had no one crest the "1066 watch" threshold. Congratulations to nobody. How long until someone hits this goal?

2019's Nerdy Stats Awards

Image

This is a series of five awards based on cross-challenge challenge performance each month. The Top and Bottom awards can be leveled up to 12, while the measures of central tendency could (in theory) be leveled up to 36.

Top Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who had the biggest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was it this month? flavo5000, with 213 combined points. :worship:
Bottom Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who participated in all three and had the smallest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was the conscientious performer this month? mightysparks, with 3 combined points, accomplishing this feet in a remarkably efficient manner. :poshclap:
Average Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the average number of points was 20.252. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? Lonewolf2003 with 20 points in the French challenge, the only score of 20 in March. :turned:
Median Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the median number of points was 11. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? allisoncm (x2), cinephage, ororama, peeptoad, shugs, and sol, with 11 points each. :shifty:
Modal Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the most common number of points was 1. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? connordenney (x2), Coryn, Eva_L (x2), mightysparks (x3), nimimerkillinen (x2), RBG, zzzorf. And a shout-out to mightysparks who hit the trifecta this month. :satstunned:

It's impressive. And if I recall, you did it with only two films. B)

This was really hard to achieve this month. I'm actually still kind of amazed that I managed to cling on to 5th spot in the Female Directors Challenge. I don't know if it's just me, but I think it has become more competitive to reach the top 5 since you began handing out cyber gold statuettes this year.

Oh, and that pun always make me laugh.

Yeah, I was aiming for two in March, and ended up 6th and 7th.

@albajos: Good catch! Updated that one (if you see any more, point them out, please)

2019's Space Jam Awards

Image

These awards are for those strategic individuals who watched films counting for more than one challenge (and reported them in the Triples Challenge thread). Level up each time you earn this award (max 12 each).

Congratulations our Triplers of the month, who each watched 3 films counting for all three challenges: albajos and flavo5000. Excellent work exploring the theme of French war movies directed by women.

And congratulations to our most voracious Doubler of the month who watched 30 films counting for two challenges: jeroeno

Level 9 is currently the maximum possible award, and only 5 people have achieved that. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: albajos, jeroeno, maxwelldeux, OldAle1, sol

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: flavo5000, jdidaco

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: hurluberlu, b]RogerTheMovieManiac88[/b], sebby

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: 72allinncallme, cinephage, Lonewolf2003, nimimerkillinen, ororama, weirdboy

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: allisoncm, clemmetarey, India Istanbul, Knaldskalle, psychotronicbeatnik, shugs, vortexsurfer

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: 3eyes, blocho, Coryn, Mate_cosido, peeptoad, PUNQ, sheikofhyrule

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: AB537, ChrisReynolds, Daviddoes, morrison-dylan-fan, Simba63, St. Gloede, Traveller

Level 2 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 2 films in each of 2 official challenges: 45MinuteZoom, jvv, mathiasa, Tarris1

Level 1 - Congrats to all the new participants who have watched at least 1 film for an official challenge: brokenface, fear of 13, GruesomeTwosome, Straka

This award is for those who have participated in a wide variety of challenges. It is awarded in six levels, for participating in 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, and 36 challenges. The lower threshold requires you watch only one film in a challenge; the upper threshold requires you to watch five films in each challenge.

After March, we're 9 challenges into the year, and we're at Level 3 as the highest attainable level. No new level next month.

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 9 official challenges and earned Level 3 of this award this month: 3eyes, albajos, allisoncm, blocho, cinephage, flavo5000, hurluberlu, jdidaco, jeroeno, Knaldskalle, maxwelldeux, mightysparks, nimimerkillinen, OldAle1, RogerTheMovieManiac88, sebby, sol, vortexsurfer, weirdboy

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges and earned Level 2 of this award this month: 72allinncallme, connordenney, India Istanbul, peeptoad, psychotronicbeatnik, PUNQ, RBG, sheikofhyrule, shugs

Congratulations go out to those new participants who watched at least 1 film for an official challenge and earned Level 1 of this award this month: AB537, brokenface, fear of 13, GruesomeTwosome, Straka

Upper Threshold

But who powers through the challenges and watches at least five films, aiming for this upper threshold?

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 9 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 3 of this award this month: albajos, hurluberlu, jeroeno, maxwelldeux, OldAle1, sol

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 2 of this award this month: 3eyes, 72allinncallme, allisoncm, blocho, Coryn, India Istanbul, Mate_cosido, peeptoad, psychotronicbeatnik, PUNQ, sheikofhyrule, shugs, vortexsurfer

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 1 official challenge with at least five watches and earned Level 1 of this award this month: AB537, brokenface, GruesomeTwosome, Straka

I was really good at losing last year. My goal was to have the highest points/movie ratio and to get through most challenges with one watch. And then I got seduced by Maxwell and his rankings. Now I'm losing at losing. No one to blame but myself, I guess ... and the war movie challenge. And quitting my teaching job so I work less than 70 hours a week.

Updated 2019 Leaderboard

The third month of the year is now in the past, and all of the March challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed 1/4 (9) of the challenges for this year! jeroeno has maintained the early lead, and might just be the person to beat this year. jdidaco has moved up a spot to enter the top 5. In all, we've had great participation this month, with 5 new people participating in at least one of the official challenges, bringing us to a total of 71 challenge participants on the year. For the 2019 Official Challenge Leaderboard, the top 25 are below; full results can be found in the first post, and last month's results here.

Just sent zzzorf a private message asking if he'd like help tallying up the results of the AU/NZ/O Challenge. I should have some free time after work tomorrow, so hopefully one of us will come up with results in the next 24-27 hours in order that max can update the Challenge Series and Awards. :)

We had zero very obsessed individuals in April - probably a good thing for us to take a month off. :turned:

Oh yeah - I had kind of forgotten that I had made it up to 36 in the 1940s Challenge because I realised towards the end that I *could* if I stuck to shorter feature films. This was hard to do though while concentrating on two other Challenges with limited overlap. It is definitely better though for achieving 3 x 36 to be an actual challenge rather than a breeze due to oodles of doubles and triples like we had in some months last year...
