2019's Participation Awards

Image

This award is for those who have participated in a wide variety of challenges. It is awarded in six levels, for participating in 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, and 36 challenges. The lower threshold requires you watch only one film in a challenge; the upper threshold requires you to watch five films in each challenge.

After September, we're 27 challenges into the year, thus opening up the next level; we're at Level 5 as the highest attainable level.

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 25 official challenges and earned Level 5 of this award this month: 3eyes, albajos, allisoncm, blocho, cinephage, flavo5000, hurluberlu, jdidaco, jeroeno, maxwelldeux, RogerTheMovieManiac88, sebby, sol

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 16 official challenges and earned Level 4 of this award this month: AB537, VincentPrice, vortexsurfer

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 9 official challenges and earned Level 3 of this award this month: morrison-dylan-fan, psychotronicbeatnik, Traveller

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges and earned Level 2 of this award this month: blueboybob, klaus78, Mochard, Onderhond, wasabi, wowwee123

Congratulations go out to those new participants who watched at least 1 film for an official challenge and earned Level 1 of this award this month: Cippenham, DareDaniel, edward5, Ritesh, TraverseTown, zuma

Upper Threshold

But who powers through the challenges and watches at least five films, aiming for this upper threshold?

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 25 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 5 of this award this month: albajos, jdidaco, jeroeno, maxwelldeux, sol

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 16 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 4 of this award this month: 72allinncallme

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 9 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 3 of this award this month: Knaldskalle, psychotronicbeatnik, Traveller

Congratulations go out to those who have participated in at least 4 official challenges with at least five watches each and earned Level 2 of this award this month: Daviddoes, klaus78, wowwee123

Updated 2019 Leaderboard

The ninth month of the year is now in the past, and all of the September challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed 3/4 (27) of the challenges for this year! jeroeno has maintained the early lead, and is definitely the person to beat this year, with albajos staying right behind in 2nd place. In all, we've had great participation this month, with 6 new people participating in at least one of the official challenges, bringing us to a total of 93 challenge participants on the year. For the 2019 Official Challenge Leaderboard, the top 25 are below; full results can be found in the first post, and last month's results here.

This threshold is for those very obsessive people who managed to watch 100 films for a single challenge, pacing well over 3 films/day.

We had nine very obsessed individuals in September. Congratulations to albajos, flavo5000, 72aicm, psychotronicbeatnik, sebby, Daviddoes, medium cool, mightysparks, and VincentPrice for cresting the 100 watch threshold! Unsurprisingly, everyone but 72aicm accomplished this in the Horror challenge.

2019's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After October, we had four new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to allisoncm, peeptoad, shugs, and VincentPrice for hitting this milestone!

2019's Nerdy Stats Awards

Image

This is a series of five awards based on cross-challenge challenge performance each month. The Top and Bottom awards can be leveled up to 12, while the measures of central tendency could (in theory) be leveled up to 36.

Top Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who had the biggest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was it this month? flavo5000, with 204 combined points. :worship:
Bottom Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who participated in all three and had the smallest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was the conscientious performer this month? 3eyes, with 9 combined points. :poshclap:
Average Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the average number of points was 29.099. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? morrison-dylan-fan with 29 points each in the Latin American challenge. :turned:
Median Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the median number of points was 14. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? Cinepolis and Minkin, who both scored 14 points in the Horror challenge. :shifty:
Modal Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the most common number of points was 2. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? connordenney, Coryn, flavo5000, nimimerkillinen, Ritesh, RogerTheMovieManiac88 (x2), sebby, and sennaho. :satstunned:

2019's Space Jam Awards

Image

These awards are for those strategic individuals who watched films counting for more than one challenge (and reported them in the Triples Challenge thread). Level up each time you earn this award (max 12 each).

With the two Latin American horror films on the TSPDT lists, we had a couple triples in October. Congrats to maxwelldeux for watching them both!

And congratulations to our most voracious Doubler of the month who watched 12 films counting for two challenges: jeroeno

2019's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the year goes on. Level 30 is currently the maximum possible award, and only 1 person, the impressive jeroeno who is going after Level 36, has achieved that. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 30 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 30 films in each of 30 official challenges: jeroeno

Level 25 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 25 films in each of 25 official challenges: sol

Updated 2019 Leaderboard

The tenth month of the year is now in the past, and all of the October challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed 5/6 (30) of the challenges for this year! jeroeno has maintained the early lead, and is definitely the person to beat this year, with albajos staying right behind in 2nd place, though sol is narrowing that gap. In all, we've had great participation this month, with 12 new people participating in at least one of the official challenges, bringing us to a total of 105 challenge participants on the year. For the 2019 Official Challenge Leaderboard, the top 25 are below; full results can be found in the first post, and last month's results here.

How exactly can Cippenham get more points for watching 20 movies in 1 challenge than I do for watching 40 movies in 2 challenges?

Is it because he played in a more obscure challenge or what is in play here?

Ps. Traveler has the same score as Cippenham but saw 66 more movies.

How exactly? You just need to be in front of so many as possible. The winner of the Horror challenge got 59 points from just that challenge.

I had the double amount of viewing as jeroeno in august, but only got 10 points more. (I won anyway since I won all three, but if I had only seen 1 movie in the last challenge, jeroeno could have won that month even if I would have had 100 more viewings)

Isn't the system faulty then.
Cippenham has seen 20 movies while traveller has seen 86 and they get the same amount of points.

Ps. I only now remember that amt of films seen doesn't matter, only your final place does.

Yeah I got massacred on the horror challenge but ended in the top three of the other two challenges so managed a second place overall for the month. Doing well in ALL challenges is how you win this

And I got more points for finishing 34th in the Horror challenge than I did winning the Latin America challenge. :P

It's fair. I can easily do 150 points every month in one challengem so 1800 points in a year. But I wouldn't really be part of a community doing my own thing with one challenge.

Making all three challenges count means that you have to divide your watches on all of them, and it makes all of them more competive, and makes it not so obvious who get the best score in a month.

That's the link with details, but at the core, it's about 1) Final rank, and 2) Number of players. If a challenge has 20 players, 1st place gets 20, 2nd place gets 19, etc. If two people tie, they both get the average of the two ranks (e.g., if there was a tie for 3rd, the two people would both get (18+17)/2 = 17.5 points).

The number of films you watch is certainly related to rank, but not explicitly. Like in the Latin American challenge last month, 72aicm won with 116 watches and got 23 points. jeroeno, who watched 70 fewer films, finished in 2nd place and got 22 points.

The scoring was designed to reward breadth, not depth, so 5 points in each of three challenges is better (from this leaderboard scoring perspective) than 15 points in one challenge. Like flavo5000 has won 7 challenges (most of anyone this year) and has 1807 total points (trailing only albajos by 21), but is in 5th place on the leaderboard this year due to focusing primarily on one challenge each month. On the other hand, jeroeno is crushing the leaderboard this year due to the goal of getting 36+ watched in every challenge.

No judgments to anyone for how they choose to play (or not), it's just a fun way to keep track of something on the forum and provide a little gamification.

I mostly try to stick to one main challenge for my own sanity. Not sure you're aware, but I can get a little obsessive aboyt completing lists. :D So if I've got three different things going at once, I'd probably go crazy.

Heh. I mean, that's kinda my point. You play how you want to play - that's awesome, and I'm super happy you're enjoying it. Don't go crazy (please). :P

2019's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After November, we had three new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to blueboybob, cinephage, and frbrown for hitting this milestone!

PUNQ, with 244 combined points. :worship:
Bottom Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who participated in all three and had the smallest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was the conscientious performer this month? Coryn, with 20 combined points. :poshclap:
Average Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the average number of points was 26.414. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? sol with 26 points each in the Korean challenge. :turned:
Median Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the median number of points was 16. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? Daviddoes (x2), who scored 16 points in the both the Noirvember and Korean challenges. :shifty:
Modal Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the most common number of points was 7. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? Coryn, 72aicm, albajos, cinephage, AB537, and OldAle1. :satstunned:

2019's Space Jam Awards

Image

These awards are for those strategic individuals who watched films counting for more than one challenge (and reported them in the Triples Challenge thread). Level up each time you earn this award (max 12 each).

With some Korean noir films that are not on any official lists, we had the possibility of triples in November - but no one watched them. Congrats to no one. :yucky:

And congratulations to our most voracious Doubler of the month who squeaked out a win here, watching 79 films counting for two challenges: frbrown

Level 33 is currently the maximum possible award, and only 1 person, the impressive jeroeno who is going after Level 36, has achieved that. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 33 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 33 films in each of 33 official challenges: jeroeno

Level 27 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 27 films in each of 27 official challenges: sol

Level 23 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 23 films in each of 23 official challenges: jdidaco

Level 20 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 20 films in each of 20 official challenges: albajos

Level 18 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 18 films in each of 18 official challenges: flavo5000, RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 17 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 17 films in each of 17 official challenges: 72aicm

Level 16 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 16 films in each of 16 official challenges: maxwelldeux

Level 15 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 15 films in each of 15 official challenges:

Level 14 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 14 films in each of 14 official challenges:

Level 13 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 13 films in each of 13 official challenges: Lonewolf2003, OldAle1, shugs

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in each of 12 official challenges: vortexsurfer

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: allisoncm, blocho, Traveller, VincentPrice

Level 10 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 10 films in each of 10 official challenges: cinephage, frbrown, morrison-dylan-fan, PUNQ

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: Coryn

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: zzzorf

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: Daviddoes, Knaldskalle, Nathan Treadway, Tarris1

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: blueboybob, klaus78, mightysparks

Updated 2019 Leaderboard

The eleventh month of the year is now in the past, and all of the November challenges have been finalized. This means we have completed 11/12 (33) of the challenges for this year! jeroeno has maintained the early lead, and is definitely the person to beat this year, with sol sneaking into 2nd place, though albajos is right behind. In all, we've had great participation this month, with 2 new people participating in at least one of the official challenges, bringing us to a total of 107 challenge participants on the year. For the 2019 Official Challenge Leaderboard, the top 25 are below; full results can be found in the first post, and last month's results here.

sol sneaking into 2nd place
:satstunned: And I didn't even do that well last month.

Do I think I can maintain second place on the leaderboard? I have gotten off to a weak start to the month (too much happening IRL) so probably not.

First Third Stats & Update
Thanks as always for the stats, max - though if you asked me whether I would prefer to see stats here or the 2019 Challenge Olympics wrapped up, I know what I would have voted for. ;)
You act like I'm not going to do both... :P
