Now I have something to try to work on beating this year. Maybe. This is probably the hardest award to achieve since it is based primarily on how other participants perform as opposed to personal perseverance.

2019's Obsessed Much? Awards

Image

This threshold is for those slightly obsessive people who managed to watch 36 films for a single challenge, pacing over 1 film/day.

We had 18 slightly obsessed individuals in December - one person, jeroeno, managed to do it in all three challenges (and for the 12th consecutive month - more on this later)! No one else was slightly obsessed in more than one challenge. Overall, 54 different people were slightly obsessed at one point this year. Here is everyone who leveled up this final month:

2019's 300 Awards

Image

This award is for those who have tallied 300 total watches across all official challenges. That's 25 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After December, we had three new people crest the "300 watch" threshold. Congratulations to Coryn, Daviddoes, and zzzorf for hitting this milestone! These folks bring our total 31 different people hitting this threshold. Congrats to everyone!

This award is for those who have tallied 1066 total watches across all official challenges. That's 89 watches/month, with three challenges each month. And with strategic film choices that count for multiple challenges, the number of films required to reach this milestone can be greatly reduced.

After December, we no additional people crest the "1066 watch" threshold. Congrats to the seven people who achieved this milestone this year!

2019's Nerdy Stats Awards

Image

This is a series of five awards based on cross-challenge challenge performance each month. The Top and Bottom awards can be leveled up to 12, while the measures of central tendency could (in theory) be leveled up to 36.

Top Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who had the biggest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was it this month? jeroeno, with 243 combined points. :worship:
Bottom Combined Performance

Add up the number of watches from all three challenges, figure out who participated in all three and had the smallest number, and you have the winner of this award. So who was the conscientious performer this month? nimimerkillinen, with 24 combined points. :poshclap:
Average Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the average number of points was 24.426. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? sol and cinephage with 25 points in the Documentary and Traveling the World challenges, respectively. :turned:
Median Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the median number of points was 17. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? Coryn, albajos, AB537, and RogertheMovieManiac88, who scored 17 points in the challenges. :shifty:
Modal Performance Across all Three Challenges

Looking across all three challenges, the most common number of points was 1. So who scored closest to this value in one of the challenges this month? allisoncm, Cinepolis, connordenney, Coryn, shugs, weirdboy, zzzorf (x2). :satstunned:

2019's Space Jam Awards

Image

These awards are for those strategic individuals who watched films counting for more than one challenge (and reported them in the Triples Challenge thread). Level up each time you earn this award (max 12 each).

With some Italian documentaries produced in various nations, we had the possibility of triples in December. Congrats to jeroeno for watching three films counting for all three challenges!

And congratulations to our most voracious Doubler of the month who squeaked out a win here, jeroeno, who watched 67 films counting for two challenges!

2019's X/X Awards

Image

This award is for those people who have watched X movies for X official challenges. The first level is easy to obtain - every challenge participant will have watched at least 1 film for 1 official challenge. But each subsequent level is harder to achieve - Level Two is 2 films in each of 2 official challenges, Level Three is 3 films in each of 3 official challenges, Level Ten is 10 films watched in each of 10 official challenges, and so on.

This is my personal favorite award. It's hard to achieve some of those higher levels, and it's only going to get more interesting as the year goes on. Level 36 is the maximum possible award, and only 1 person, the impressive jeroeno who swept the board, has achieved that. Here is a list of everyone with an award promotion this month:

Level 36 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 36 films in each of 36 official challenges: jeroeno

Level 28 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 28 films in each of 28 official challenges: sol

Level 25 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 25 films in each of 25 official challenges: jdidaco

Level 20 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 20 films in each of 20 official challenges: flavo5000, RogerTheMovieManiac88

Level 17 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 17 films in each of 17 official challenges: maxwelldeux

Level 15 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 15 films in each of 15 official challenges: AB537, hurluberlu, sebby, weirdboy

Level 13 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 13 films in each of 13 official challenges: peeptoad

Level 12 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 12 films in each of 12 official challenges: allisoncm, ororama, Traveller

Level 11 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 11 films in each of 11 official challenges: cinephage, Coryn, psychotronicbeatnik, PUNQ

Level 9 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 9 films in each of 9 official challenges: clemmetarey, zzzorf

Level 8 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 8 films in each of 8 official challenges: blueboybob, Daviddoes, India Istanbul, Tarris1

Level 7 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 7 films in each of 7 official challenges: Cinepolis, klaus78, nimimerkillinen

Level 6 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 6 films in each of 6 official challenges: Eva_L, Obgeoff

Level 5 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 5 films in each of 5 official challenges: Mochard

Level 4 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 4 films in each of 4 official challenges: connordenney, jvv, ryebass

Level 3 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 3 films in each of 3 official challenges: burneyfan

Level 2 - Congrats to all the participants who have watched at least 2 films in each of 2 official challenges: globetrotter

Level 1 - Congrats to all the new participants who have watched at least 1 film for an official challenge: tarr

The jeroeno Award

Before I post the final leaderboard, I just wanted to share some thoughts on jeroeno's performance in the challenges this year. It's been low-key, but fascinating domination. Not high-profile challenge wins (four people actually have more challenge wins than jeroeno), but a really impressive level of consistency. Here are some highlights:

- 24 Top 5 finishes. That's 2/3 of the challenges in the Top 5. It's also 50% than the next closest person (sol).
- 35 Top 10 finishes (only Horror was outside the top 10)
- Level 36 in the X/X award, which I legitimately thought would be impossible to achieve. Literally got at least 36 points in every single challenge.
- Top of the leaderboard from start to finish, with no one even getting particularly close.
- Led the monthly leaderboards 8/12 months, and never finished outside the Top 3.

So yeah - hats off to jeroeno for achieving some remarkably difficult goals in 2019.

And goals for this year are set! Can I beat any of that? :whistling: My actual number of films watched in 2019 was exactly 1000 (951 FTV + 49 RV). Might need to focus more on doubles and triples this year if I want to improve. Thanks for all the hard work as usual.

The jeroeno Award

My own award :yas:

Yeah, I'm never doing something like this ever again but thanks to the awards, the participation and all the people who hosted these challenges through the year it was really a lot of fun too. Thanks everybody

Thank you Maxwell and congratulations on a fascinating (and I'm sure time-consuming) year of challenge tracking. It was a lot of fun to follow the various awards and see how performances fed into the overall leaderboard. Apologies for pipping you to 6th spot on the ladder!

I feel that I might take a bit of a step back in 2020. At the moment, I am planning to skip all the country/region challenges apart from India, Africa, and Mexico (as I have quite a few films at hand for these - particularly the first two) and focus on just two challenges in most months.

I did the same. Saw 5 movies in most of the country challenges. Working on 24 challenges is crazy in itself.

I'm also going to take a step back. About 90% of the movies I saw last year qualified for a challenge. I'd like to mix in more random movies that I just feel like seeing on the spur of the moment.

Same here. There is only a handful of challenges that I’m going to participate in this year. Looking forward to them though!

Does anyone how stats on what were the most popular challenges/months based on both number of participants and points?

Does anyone how stats on what were the most popular challenges/months based on both number of participants and points?
Yes. I have all the stats. :P

Do you mean just for this year, or all time? There's this table... viewtopic.php?p=589770#p589770

Yeah, I'm never doing something like this ever again but thanks to the awards, the participation and all the people who hosted these challenges through the year it was really a lot of fun too. Thanks everybody
Congrats on your year long championship run, jeroeno, particularly hitting level 36 in the Beautiful mind award. That really takes perseverance and stamina!

I was feeling a bit burnt out by the end of the 2018 challenges and only participated in 11 in 2019, even fewer than I originally planned. I've really enjoyed the chance to focus on just one or two challenges a month instead of doing the massive juggling act it takes to stay the overall leader. I won't say I'll never do all 36 challenges in a year again but it's not going to be any time soon.

A big congrats to maxwell too - for once again pulling off a yearlong award show and keeping it more entertaining than the Oscars!
