The Triple Challenge Challenge - 2019

To easier keep track of everytime you see doubles or triples in the challenges. And maybe get an award from max?
There will be both monthly and yearly stats.
This thread runs from January 1st to December 31st 2019.

You can only get one double/triple from a mini-series or TV-series. In other words only post one episode in a month.
For shorts the 40/60 minute rule applies.

Use the nornal way of posting. But reset the count at the beginning of every month. I'll add them together in the yearly stats. Use the prefix [double] or [D] and [triple] or [T] on every point.

For January

Rosenbaum
Sci-Fi/Fantasy and
Russia/USSR

There is a few triples there, I think. Solyaris (1972) being the obvious one.

I've got a list of the Rosenbaum/Russian doubles in the OP of the Russia thread (included below in a spoiler).

I think these are the only eligible triples:
Zacharovannaya Desna 1964
Solyaris 1972
Stalker 1979
Russkiy kovcheg 2002

I haven't seen the whole list, 35-ish, so there might be one or two others I missed.

It's probably better to ask in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy challenge thread.

thanks for doing this, alb.

Re Aerograd: it's futuristic. I got it from the Weighty Place a few years back but the print was so bad it was unwatchable.

I was looking at Aerograd as a candidate triple, too.

I have seen all the other triples listed. I may consider a rewatch but I just re-watched Stalker and Solyaris relatively recently already.

Reading about it, it seems to be in the realm of speculative fiction, and is tagged as sci-fi on a couple websites, so if maxwell sez that's okay, then yeah it's a triple.

i dont see why it shouldnt so going with that until if otherwise said
1. Aerograd [T] - Some gorgeous nature and flying cinematography and besides that some too. Kind of bizarre at time, probably because of my poor knowledge of the context. Drags a bit at some moments but was worth watching

If anyone's looking for a good Russian fantasy, I recommend The Story of the Voyages. It's not on Rosenbaum's list so it's just a double, not a triple.

This is a great idea and I would have been very excited about it last year, but I'll be competing in fewer challenges this year so I probably will not be posting on this one. Even so - thumbs up for doing it!

There are several months this year (3 or 4, I think) where triples aren't possible, so even if you don't go all out in challenges you can still win a month with doubles.

I may compete in a few months - there are a couple that I am considering doing double challenges. I am really enjoying my more barebones single challenge particpation this month though! It's the sci/fi one where you are astronomically ahead.

Ah, so this is the year I could’ve beaten you in the yearly rankings?
Too bad I’m only doing a few challenges this year (none this month)

Well, never say never again, but I doubt I will ever compete as hard as I did last year. My competitive nature wouldn't let me quit once I got in the lead so from the first month on I was maxing my challenge viewing (over half of my watches were doubles or triples, otherwise I couldn't have done it). I'm making sure I don't end up as the rabbit chased by hounds this year by only doing one challenge this month! Best of luck to whoever competes for the crown this year - it will be fun to watch.

1. Aerograd AKA Frontier (1935) - Aleksandr Dovzhenko [T]

I liked the exterior shots of nature, and the aerial photography was also quite good--the only equivalent I can think of from that era would be Hell's Angels. However a lot of the scenes are shot in these dark, claustrophobic interiors and involve people standing around for 10 minutes delivering long and ostensibly rousing speeches to one another. Maybe it's melodramatic and rousing the first time, but by the end of the movie I was just rolling my eyes. The plot with invading Japanese "samurai" was horrible and made little sense.

Sure. The scores will be low here anyway.

But post them in bulks of only doubles or only triples (I know there aren't any short triples this month, but as a general rule for the whole year)

I'm not quite sure what the best way to structure these posts is, so I've added a spoiler that should be pretty clear.

1. Aerograd (Dovhzenko, 1935). Weirdboy is correct, this really doen't measure up. The "proclamations" made by the various characters quickly become tedious and the beautiful cinematography can't make up for the simplistic plot. My least favorite of the 4 Dovhzenko movies I've seen so far. Russian + Sci-fi + Rosenbaum (T)

The easiest way to read the post is to write them like I do (+0-1 or +1-0). But the small amount of updates makes it easy to update the board regardless which way you do it anyway.
If it becomes unmanageable I'll let you know :)

I'm not actively working on doubles/triples but I've seen a few fantasy movies on Rosenbaum list so :
[D] 0.1. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988, Terry Gilliam)
[D] 0.2. Defending Your Life (1991, Albert Brooks)
