1. I Corpi Presentano Tracce di Violenza Carnale (aka Torso) - 1973

I suppose this is my first giallo movie, unless Suspiria counts. The movie seems almost solely preoccupied with the display and destruction of attractive female bodies. I can't imagine what my visual studies class in grad school would have done with it. I'm not gonna get on some academic hobbyhorse and talk about male visual pleasure. I just though the whole thing was kind of boring.

Aiming for around 150/500 this year, but probably too ambitious. I am at 86/500 on the current list, but I will definitely lose a few checks

1. J'attendrai le suivant... (2002) 7/10
2. God is Dog Spelled Backwards (1967) 7/10
3. Le signe du lion (1962) 7.5/10
4. Gunki hatameku motoni (1972) 7/10

14. Le signe du lion (The Sign of Leo) - 1962 - Eric Rohmer 7/10

The most "down-to-earth" Rohmer film I have seen. If I didn't see his name in the credits, I would never have guessed him as the director.

1. #316 Corn Island (2014) - 6/10

This was such a unique movie, a real snapshot at a way of life for some Georgian people. The movie was shot beautifully and acted well and I can't really fault that. The reason though that it only gets a 6/10 from me is that as an entertaining movie it failed to keep me just that, entertained. I watched intently but in a slightly bored fashion. The lack of dialogue mixed in with the slow moving action just didn't sit well with me and made me only minor liking a movie that deserves more.

Also the intruder on the island part of the storyline just seemed unnecessary.

1. La caza 1966 — a.k.a. The Hunt 7/10
2. The Signalman 1976 8/10

The latter really got me into the mood for these British horror/mystery movies (and BBC TV productions) :)
Also, with these two movies I'm already at the same amount of movies watched as for last year's challenge...but I plan to watch more movies again. The new brings back that enthusiasm from these years when I was a really active member here. We shall see

I believe I saw 37 films from the 2017 list in the time since it was published. A lot more than I saw from the 2016 list. So far with the 2018 poll, I've seen:

1. La Belle Captive (1983)
2. Adelheid (1970)

Liked but didn't love them.

I have a private list of 53 unseen films from last year's 2017 poll that sound interesting to me, but it looks like 10-11 of them are dropping out of the 2018 poll. I'll have to comb through the new poll and revamp my priority list. I know I'm especially keen to see L'inhumaine, Eros + Massacre, Heroic Purgatory, Mujo and On the Silver Globe.

These are the first two in a trilogy by Yoshida. If you are going to watch those, I would also recommend watching Kaigenrei (Coup d'etat) which has appeared on the list this year, as it is the last of that trilogy.

2. Brumes d'automne (1929) - 6.5/10

Image

I was going to watch all the sci-fi's first but I changed my mind. I think mixing it up a little and just picking films that I think I will enjoy may work better. The goal is to complete the list but thats my goal for all the lists even though I rarely just go for it. I think the short term goal of bronze which will be around 135 checks I'm guessing will be achievable in a year.

Brumes d'automne was a 12 minute silent short from 1929. I found the images relaxing and quite carefree.

- All feature length, mini-series rules from regular challenges apply.
What does this rule mean, exactly? is this the "60 minutes or more counts as an item" rule? Because last time this challenge happened I am pretty sure every ICM check counted for one, regardless of length. e.g. Heimat II despite being 20+ hours still only counts as one.

a copy-paste error. yes, every individual entry counts as one point, Heimat II = 1 point, that Norwegian film used in that a-ha video = 1 point.
