1990s + 21st Century Challenge

Image
James Spader building a wall and laughing at everyone that has to watch all those movies from three decades in one month.
(from the August double, The Music of Chance (1993) )

Goal:
Watch as many movies from 1990-2018 as possible (from August 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018).

Rules:
- All movies from 1990-2018 are eligble.
- A feature film (anything 40 minutes or over) counts as one entry.
- A total of 60 minutes of short films count as one entry.
- For Mini-Series (40 minute episodes or longer) each episode counts as an entry.
- For Mini-Series with shorter episodes, the 60 minute rule applies.
- Rewatches allowed.
- For TV-Series the mini-series rule applies, BUT you can only get up to a maximum of twenty (20) points from TV-series for this challenge. You are free to spend the whole month watching "Desperate Housewives from Jersey Shore", but you will only get 20 points from it.

Formatting:
Please include «(TV)» after every TV-point and your total number of TV-points in every update. Example in spoilertag:
ExampleShow

2. The Music of Chance (1993)
3. Pulp Fiction (1994)

Looks like a very broad challenge.

You missed a couple of official lists:

That's another great pic, 72...
I'll be watching a few next month... too bad I just rewatched Stargate last night though; could have tied that in with the Spader-theme.

Nice! I was wondering what you were thinking there. This will be a good experiment to test out one of the potential tweaks to the rules.

And just to clarify - each episode of "Band of Brothers" (for example) would count, as it's a miniseries, but would NOT count towards the 20-point-max for TV series, correct? So I could watch "Band of Brothers" and 20 episodes of "America's Next Top Model Remodels A House and Cooks Dinner While Undergoing an Extreme Makeover", and everything would count?

1990s-specific:
https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/ofcs ... s/mochard/

Most available Middle-East movies are post-1990, so lots of doubles here (and triples).

Dunno how hard I'll work, but I'm in.

In. I'll start before the month begins (I'll count the entries as X instead of a number) because I have a personal goal in mind. My top 10 lists lack 10/10 favourites for a few years. I know for some I have no chance of getting them complete, but for the later ones I'm sure it's possible. These are the years I need to cover and the amount of new favourites I need.

1996 - 1, 1998 - 4, 1999 - 1, 2000 - 1, 2004 - 3, 2005 - 1, 2006 - 2, 2007 - 3, 2015 - 3

I'll be doing my own research but some recommendations may help.

I think the most impressive thing about that response is that you actually took the time to type out the acronym of my ridiculous TV Show. :circle:

On another note, did you want me to post standing every couple days until you get back online? And if so, when are you back?

Nah, I need something to do whilst drinking Piña colada and staring at the sun. I do however need help policing the «Max 20 TV-rule». If you don’t mind?

Sure - I'd suggest putting something in the OP (and also in its own post, so more people will see it) about how you want those formatted to help us keep track.

Just because of the rule, I'll watch 40 episodes of Pokemon :p

(but how about a 30 point limit. That way you're allowed to watch one episode every day. (I was thinking about a similar rule, but only that TV-episodes couldn't be more than 50% of the total score. So if you get 50 points of TV, you also need 50 movies))

Because 20 is fair. 30 is too much and 10 is too little. % opens up for even more TV which goes against the purpose.

Wow, you're kicked off the ball early, though I guess it's good to have a heads-up for everyone to get used to the new rule. I was thinking of imposing a "120mins of TV episodes = 1 point" rule next time I host, but what you're putting forth might work better to curb the binge TV watching problem. The biggest issue for me is that several TV series and individual episodes are Official Checks, so I think there needs to be room to include episodes in our Challenges - it's just a question of how.

And now, the stat that I'm going to be most interested in is how many participants here end up using the whole 20 points of TV to boost their score.

Any recommendations for these years? Can't find enough stuff from 1998, 2007, & 2015. This is what caught my eye so far:
How about....

2015 - Arabian Nights, Francofonia

2007 - The Secret of the Grain, Chop Shop (Two films packed with hopeless toil)

1998 - The Pear Tree, Your Friends and Neighbours (I’d guess there is a 2% chance for YF&N)

1. Mrs. Ashboro's Cat aka. Ghost Cat [2003] 3/10
Terminally lame TV movie about the ghost of an old lady's cat saving the protagonists from the conniving schemes of a cash-strapped nephew and corrupt real estate investor. Only notable for being a pre-breakout role for Ellen Page, although frankly she's almost as bad in this as the rest of the cast.

01. Operasjon Arktis (2014) Norway 28 checks
Worst child acting I've ever seen, it's 3 of them, and they are alone 85% if the movie
02. Dryads - Girls Don't Cry (2015) Norway 15 checks
Quiet teen get a new neigjbor and complety crushes on her punk lifestyle. And they have a band: Dryads
03. Olsenbanden Junior på cirkus (2005) Norway 78 checks
It's not the first prequel, but the kid actors playing the main cast are not good in this one, and probably the ones that most don't look like their grown versions. And it's a musical...
04. Olsenbanden Jr. - Sølvgruvens hemmelighet (2007) Norway 60 checks
Overstayed it's welcome a long time ago. 19th in the series.
05. God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness (2018) USA 5 checks
I haven't seen to many of these; just Saving Christmas and the two previous God's Not Deads. You know exactly what message they try to give here, and you're better off not watching it.

2. Bloodmarsh Krackoon [2013] 1/10
Painfully unfunny cheapo horror-comedy about crack addicted raccoons offing criminals in the Bronx. Lots of apocalyptically bad acting and lame hand-puppetry in the kill scenes. My biggest mistake was watching it sober.

3a. The Confession of Fred Krueger [2015] 6/10
3b. The Shape Returns: A Halloween Film [2017] 4/10
3c. Candy Floss [2016] 6/10

Two horror fan films, only one of which is worth watching, despite ropey acting showing up in both. Third is a drama about a teen runaway and fairground worker meeting and rebelling, with disastrous consequences. Exceedingly well shot if nothing else.

I'll be participating. Seems like a super broad challenge.

In. Thanks for hosting 72. Too much to cover here, will be focusing exclusively on the 90s, and will leave the 00s and 10s for another time.

1. Anna Karamazoff (Rustam Khamdamov, 1991) 9/10
2. Russkaya simfoniya (Russian Symphony, Konstantin Lopushanskiy, 1994) 9/10

- What will become of us, our Heavenly Father? (Lopushansky)
- Fire! Amen! Disappear! (Khamdamov)

Khamdamov and Lopushansky register the collapse, and this challenge starts on a very high note,
