The Sly Silver Fox Challenge

Fly under the radar by picking up the silver loot. A nice reward for those giant lists, where there is quite a long way from Bronze to Platinum.

Rules:
- Same as the other challenges for length, etc...
- Unofficial lists are fine.

I'll probably work on Vogel (50 to Silver), Cahiers du cinéma (45), Weird Movies (16) & Harvard non-fiction (12),

If I'm aiming for platinum in the Academy Award Best Foreign Pictures list but only have a bronze at the moment should I start off with it in the silver challenge and move up to gold after or just start in the platinum challenge?

Whichever works for you. Someone says that a Gold challenge would be redundant (90% vs 100%) so I would suggest moving from one challenge to the next, the more participants the merrier

I think it would be more fun to go for silver first as it would give me more motivation. I've just installed themagician's iCM script as well to see what lists I'm close to an award on.

I may as well join this as well, just working on one list at a time though. Work on The Criterion Collection (need 1) not sure when I will see it though.

Might I recommend Antonio Gaudí (1985)? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwC6RsEtX7U Linked by you in the comments on iCM?
Or something shorter. Marty (1953) starring Rod Steiger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDiwOxvmJOw

1. Final Flesh (2009) Ike Sanders (1/10)

from 366 Weird Movies list (15 till silver)

This easily ranks as one of the worst films I've seen because of ICM. Imagine a porn movie (without sex scenes) directed by Don Hertzfeld, if you can you've seen the film. Horrendous... It feels like a bunch of witless philosophy students who think they're being clever, but it's so god damn bad and cringe inducing.

Arthur might love it.

What do you mean by this first rule? You can't use the list in the "Finish 'em off" Challenge, once you've used it here?

No I meant once you get silver you can't work on it here.

Took the rule down, it's sort of assumed by the challenge.

I'll join and I'll get the silver for iCheckMovies - Most Favorite. I need at least a day off to recover from the comedy list.

 It's only 3 films and this time I'll only do ones that actually look good (Random Harvest, Oslo, 31. august, and O Bandido da Luz Vermelha) rather than just the highest ranking ones.

Well now I have Rock 'n' Roll All Night stuck in my head for 10 days...

I love so bad it's good stuff. Some of it was highly laughable and it was not pretentious.

1. La vie devant soi (1977)
2. La diagonale du fou (1984)

I've now seen eight out of the ten least checked films on the list. Aiming for the other two next (Monsieur Vincent and Preparez vos mouchoirs).

5. The Accused (1949) William Dieterle (5/10) (250 Noirs (25 to silver)

This was a very mediocre noir, the voice over scenes were highly unnecessary, the psychological naiveté was off the charts and the plot about as unbelievable as it gets. The film was made more palatable by the ever fantastic Wendell Corey and the delightfully quirky Sam Jaffe who I had just seen be remarkably great en Français in Clouzot's fantastic Les espions.

No I meant once you get silver you can't work on it here.

Took the rule down, it's sort of assumed by the challenge.
ICM seems to want us to watch x%+1 in order to get an award (what happens when we get to 100%?) -- so I guess we either have to watch an extra one or (gasp!) use our common sense.

Ok I decided to make a Gold challenge because for the big list the difference between gold and Plat are some 100+ titles, so it will keep things cleaner and more rewarding.

My intention was always to for platinum but nice to have smaller targets first.

Ah well, who cares as long as I finish it. Still got the 7-hour epic War and Peace left. :'(
