24. The Clock (1945, Vincente Minnelli) : lovely movie
25. Samson and Delilah (1949, Cecil B. DeMille). Interesting fact : the last two movies I've seen in the cinema have Angela Lansbury in their cast. This one too, but was released 70 years ago. Impressive career.

Beautiful technicolor, and the Everglades are a great setting. But the plot lacks structure and is hard to swallow as a whole.

'Game Day' was a really intense episode, from Bubbles stealing some product off the roof with a fishing line, to the cops closing in on possibly identifying Avon at a ball game, to an attempt on his life by a rival. 'The Cost' was less intense by comparison - except during the last 10 minutes when one officer has her life in jeopardy - but the episode nicely continues to explore interesting dynamics among the cops and in their personal lives (McNulty struggling for joint custody of his kids, etc).

So I decided to take a break from watching 'The Wire' to check out this film that everybody has been raving about this thread.

I don't know, maybe I just appreciated this more than most as a big fan of the Kubrick movie. I wouldn't call it a great film, but eh, it was okay.

This pre-Kubrick Clockwork Orange adaptation has a low budget and less talented actors, but it is not without its virtues. The vast majority of the movie fascinatingly plays out as one single unbroken take with a perfectly disorientating jump as the film suddenly cuts to close-up at around 48 minutes in at the height of indoctrination. Having the protagonist describe what he is being shown in treatment (rather than showing the clips themselves) is a neat touch too as we have to fill in the blanks. Gerard Malanga is awful in the lead role though.

Nail-biting tension as Season One comes to a close. Lawrence Gilliard Jr. still continues his streak as best actor of the series. The moment when he thinks he is about to be killed by his own gang is crazy intense, and the fish tanks immediately afterwards are almost dreamily beautiful by comparison to the fate he expected. Michael B. Jordan though would actually place as my second favourite actor, I think. He was terrific in 'Cleaning Up' - very down to earth and human. And on that note, it is great to find a show like this that has us seeing the human beings on both sides in equal measures. And damn, Dominic West in that hospital scene is what acting is all about. Season Two here I come!

Overall lukewarm towards this one, although all the segments have some interesting moments to them. Rossellini's and Pasolini's attempts at comedy do not sit well with me.

But what a killer track (and dancing) in the Pasolini segment!

After the intense last five episodes of Season 1, the slow-paced 'Ebb Tide' was a disappointing start to Season 2. The revelation in the final five minutes is undeniably encapsulating, but it is long time getting there. 'Collateral Damage' expectedly works better with these last five minutes as a solid launching pad, but it is still a far cry from Season 1 at its peak.

I found this to be true of every season - it takes a few episodes to build up and get into the new plot. But still worth it.

1. La grande illusion (1937)
2. Solyaris (1972)

3. The Great Dictator (1940) - I had seen parts of this, but never the whole thing. I don't really like Chaplin's comedies all that much, but as a political satire, I did quite enjoy it. And that speech is still amazing.
4. Forbidden Planet (1956)
5. Blackmail (1929) - I found this one kind of boring.
6. Persona (1966) - Enjoyed this one a lot. Great acting, especially from Ullmann, who doesn't even get to speak.

23. The Wire: Ebb Tide (2003)
24. The Wire: Collateral Damage (2003)

Well, I am going to continue with the series. I mean, I'm already 25% of the way towards getting a much-coveted Official Check, so I will continue to watch the rest. It's just a question of whether I finish it by the end of the month to milk the potential points for all that they are worth. That said, I found the first two episodes of Season 1 more riveting than the first two of Season 2...

If I'm learning nothing else from watching these shorts, it's that Rosenbaum is a weird dude.
Dammit, every time you (or someone else) posts a bunch of shorts here I'm like "arrgh!" - the reason being is that I am keeping track of everyone's viewings in a (private) IMDb list and while feature films automatically pop up as suggestions when searching for films to add, shorts don't. So, for all the shorts that everyone has watched, I have had to visit the individual IMDb page, copy the tt####### and paste it in order to add the viewing to my master list. I think I'll just track feature films (no shorts) when I do stats for the next challenge that I host. I'm already not tracking TV episodes as it is.

While bits and pieces here film feel awfully silly (being chased Scooby Doo fashion by forty potential brides; dishes thrown around a kitchen), this is for the most part a droll and amusing comedy that takes a satirical stab at the institution of marriage and conformity to social expectations. Ossi Oswalda is terrific as the 'doll', the film is full of experimental editing and animated cutaways, and the whole film feels so inventive that it is hard believe that it is a pre-Keaton and pre-Lloyd production. Lubitsch has an amusing cameo too.

Hi, nimi. I would appreciate it if you could also include years of release next your movies with any future updates. Just makes it easier for me to sort out which films to add to my master list. Many thanks!

Hmm. I guess I could include something about that in the OP, but since most folks include year of release anyway, I had always just assumed that it was a standard practice. I'll amend the OP shortly. :)

Three episodes into Season 2 and I am still waiting to see if the thirteen dead women are somehow connected to Avon Barksdale and the drug dealers. The series seems almost schizophrenic at the moment, jumping in between the detectives trying to solve the dead smuggled women and Avon's gang trying to sort out their own problems from behind bars. Intrigued to see where it goes though.

As the shorts is limited to the list they are pretty easy to find the imdb page for each just by clicking the link on the movie on it's icm-page. No need to search on imdb. Also you can copy the whole adress, not just tt###, imdb will still find it when adding it to a list.

I didn't add single TV-episodes myself. Just one for the full TV show. As it is quickly just to use the note field on that title in the imdb-list just to write what episodes peaople have seen.

I don't need the full URL, but the tt0000000 number would be useful to save me having to look it up.

Huh, I didn't know that. That would certainly save a bit of time if I could just use the whole address. I'll try that next time. Thanks!

(that said, I'll probably still refrain from tracking shorts in the stats for the next challenge that I host)

'Undertow' has the most intense opening pre-credits scene of the entire season so far, showing just how tough and ruthless the dope gang world is as Ziggy gets mixed up with some bad types. There are also several interesting bits in which Avon takes lessons in economics, conversing with his teacher about hypothetical situations that for him are quite real. Omar on trial is pretty intense in 'All Prologue' too. And it is with this episode that tension is first starting to really build (and damn, that library scene with D'Angelo).
