I've sent funky a PM here as well (previous was on iCM). He has been online today.
I already have received two options from Lilarcor and Mochard.
tommy_leazaq, sebby and hurluberlu can do so as well if they want (by sending a PM). This could speed up the process.

I'll do the seedings immediately we hit 32, but we're lagged by one person as usual. Who would guess it wasn't monty.

What does this mean? seedings?

Is it really necessary with a whole month? I guess most (all?) managers have at least one movie in mind when chosing which country to manage.

Is there a «no movies from 2019-20» rule or do we just use common sense? And do you have a list of all the previous WC movies?

No rule about year of release, but common sense says it's not in line with the purpose of the cup to select a big movie that was just released. If you want to select something underseen from 2019, I have no problems with that.72allinncallme wrote: ↑October 20th, 2019, 7:43 pmFair enough.joachimt wrote: ↑October 20th, 2019, 7:23 pmSome pick an obscure country and investigate, watch multiple movies etc......72allinncallme wrote: ↑October 20th, 2019, 7:20 pm

I understand not wanting to finish at Christmastime (though needing to watch two films next year instead of 4 or more this year seems like a no-brainer, especially since the films chosen in the final have often already been seen by a fair number of folks), but if we're going to start before January, could we at least extend the duration of the first few matches to allow for more participation? I think starting December 1st will be fine if we're given more time. We can revert to a regular schedule in mid-Jan, and still finish before mid-Dec 2020.

Ok well I have looked through my <1000 checks and have nailed it down to 22 countries (minus the US and UK of course) that I would be happy to give a movie from. Some are just 1 movie but if I make it through to the next round than I can work on that. Now just to see what countries are nibbled up before I get a chance, making my choice smaller due to those countries no longer being available.mjf314 wrote: ↑October 19th, 2019, 10:48 pmI think most managers choose countries that they're familiar with, but not always. I just wanted to see what the general consensus was for picking movies was. Is most peoples preferred method to choose a country they are familiar with or not that knowledgeable? Then are the movies generally chosen by the manager something they have seen personally or are going in blind with a movie that they think will be good? What other advice could be given to a new manager from those that have been before when making their choices?
Managers pick movies that they've seen, usually a movie that they like and/or expect other participants to like.

I just went to my checked movies on iCM (well actually just my favourites) and sorted them by checks.
Use this link https://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/che ... checks&asc and just check a movie here and there to make sure you haven't gone past the 1000 mark

I think I could do that. I could remove the overlap between match 1A and match 1B for example. The schedule for 4-movie-matches last time was 4 weeks per match with 1.5 week overlap.Fergenaprido wrote: ↑October 21st, 2019, 2:02 am I understand not wanting to finish at Christmastime (though needing to watch two films next year instead of 4 or more this year seems like a no-brainer, especially since the films chosen in the final have often already been seen by a fair number of folks), but if we're going to start before January, could we at least extend the duration of the first few matches to allow for more participation? By removing the overlap between 1A and 1B:
1A: Dec 1st - Dec 29th
1B: Dec 29th - Jan 26th
Final ends at Dec 10th
(or maybe start one week later, so Christmas is around the middle of 1A)
Or by making 1A one week longer:
1A: Dec 1st - Jan 5th
1B: Dec 26th - Jan 23rd
Final ends at Dec 7th.
(or maybe start one week later, so Christmas is around the middle of 1A)
The downside of starting later could be, that we end up with the final around next Christmas if we have some delay during the process.

I think both options would work (slight preference for first option), as they give enough time to those who will be largely offline for 2-3 weeks during Christmas to still catch the films before or after with enough time. I agree with not wanting to start later in order to avoid clashing with Christmas next year.joachimt wrote: ↑October 21st, 2019, 6:29 amI think I could do that. As for my pick, I want India to participate in this competition and at the same time I would love to see someone else manages India this time as I have had the opportunity two times before and tbh, Im getting tired of my own selections of Indian films so it'd be refreshing to see someone else's take
Also by seeing the number of new aspiring managers and the reduced number of countries, I don't really mind not managing this time.
So, I'll have a conditional pick. If India is not among the first 31 picks, I'll have the 32nd slot and choose India. If India is picked by someone else by then, I'll take leave from my managerial duty in this season.
I know this is making things unnecessarily complicated, but someone has to make Joachim's life bit difficult as a WC host as per usual norm. Since it's not going to be Monty, by everyone's surprise, I'll take the honors

Mario, can you easily post a list of countries that......?
a. competed all 3 times.
b. competed twice.
c. competed only once.
Some people weren't around when we had the first (and second) cup, so not everyone is aware of which countries had their spotlight yet and which not.

Thanks. I would appreciate that. By my count, there are still 13 countries that I would be interested in manage that I have not been taken yet... so anything that would help to narrow down which region I should pick would be great.

After this post signing up as manager is open for everybody. You can choose one country that hasn't been chosen yet. Signing up is open for at least 24 hours. If we reach more than 32 countries in 24 hours, there will be some poll. If there are less than 32 countries after 24 hours, we'll continue till we have 32 countries and then signing up will be closed immediately.
You can choose by just posting here.
If India isn't picked, it will be the 32nd country managed by tommy.
