The country that ends at 1st place proceeds to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:

Here's a quick summary of how the tournament worksShow

We start with 48 films from 48 countries. Each country has a manager who determines which movie will be watched. In the first round the countries are divided into 12 groups of 4. From each group the countries that end up at #1 and #2 proceed to the next round. In the 2nd round the 24 remaining countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3. The managers pick a new movie. The winner of each group proceeds to the next round. The final 8 countries compete one-on-one in the quarter finals (with a new movie of course) and so on till the final.

Two very opposite films when it comes to representation. One a "stylistic" but trite observation on male friendship, the other appearing to be a conventional American picture in its aesthetics but turns out to be something much more and daring in its depiction of male identity. I think some here will probably hate The Mudge Boy because of certain scenes, but it clearly intends to provoke, whether the provocations are worth it depends on the viewer, I guess. Anway, found it a pretty interesting film on sexuality, with great acting and fresh take on certain character types.

Never would have had The Mudge Boy on my radar if it wasn't for the WC, great choice, should be on some list(s)!

Slucajni zivot was good but The Mudge Boy is a personal favourite of mine which is why I picked it in the first place. The Mudge Boy appears to be dividing people although I'm pleased to see some appreciation for it, so thanks to everyone who has watched it so far. It seems to be a very close race up to now. Really liked Hirsch's performance, and the story overall. Interested to see the short film it's based on. Accidental Life I saw a few years ago, and couldn't remember what it was about; skimmed through it again to jog my memory, and I don't think much would change on a rewatch, especially since the gulf between the scores is quite large. Glad to see Croatia made it this far, though

(And I don't feel this was done deliberately to enhance the viewers's sense of confusion). Apparently the director of this only made this and then became a professor in film theory; I guess the old 'those who can't, teach' idiom applies here.
