iCM Forum Film World Cup - Season 3 - Records and Statistics

#1

Post by Mario Gaborović » August 9th, 2018, 10:39 am

The tournament started on January 1st, 2018. This is how it works:
- Round 1: 48 countries will be divided into 12 groups of 4 countries. #1 and #2 from each group proceed. Each match lasts for 4 weeks. Matches overlap 1.5 weeks.
- Round 2: 24 countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3 countries. #1 from each group proceeds. Each match lasts for 3 week. Matches overlap 1 week.
- Quarter finals, semi finals, 3rd place match and final: Countries compete one on one. Winner proceeds.
- Each match lasts for 2 weeks. Matches overlap 0.5 weeks.

There are few restrictions:
- The film must have <1000 checks on iCM.
- The film must be no longer than 3 hours.
- You may only use 1 film per director throughout the entire tournament.

Complete line-up of films here:
https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/icm+ ... /joachimt/

Voters are obliged to watch all four films from a specific group in order to vote by a ranking system (1-4). The countries that end at 1st and 2nd place proceed to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
- Ranked by lowest average ranking.
- In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
- In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between three or four movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? Fewest #4-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #3 and #4).

Newly set records

- Splash Splash Love (KOR) is film with the worst performance with the vote ratio of 18/108 (0.167). It also holds the worst performance against another film in terms of vote margin, and that's 3-39 (-36) versus Pădurea spânzuraților (ROM). In addition to this, Pădurea spânzuraților received most consecutive votes against another film (33) in the said match.

- Morocco became a country with most losses (5) without a single victory in the iCM World Cups.

- J. Lee Thompson became a director with most wins (5, all for England) in the ICM World Cups, as well as highest margin versus his opponents as he didn't lose once. All other directors have three wins in total, or less.

- Splash Splash Love (KOR) is the first and so far the only TV series used in the iCM World Cup.

- The oldest ever film: Ingeborg Holm (SWE) from 1911.

- The newest ever film: Splash Splash Love (KOR), first aired on December 13, 2015.

- The most-checked film ever at the time of revealed nomination: Belle Epoque (ESP) (947).

5 wins in 2 matches? Pretty good considering there weren't many 3-movie rounds (two?) and only 1 with 4.

currently working towards a vegan/low waste world + thru such film lists (besides TV): 2010s bests, RW Fassbinder, Luis Bunuel, Yasujiro Ozu, Eric Rohmer, Visual Effects nominees, kid-related stuff, great animes (mini-serie or feature), very 80s movies, 17+ sci-fi lists on watchlist, ENVIRO, remarkable Silent Films and Pre-Code (exploring 1925 atm) and every shorts and docu list I'm aware of and

His film was always placed first in the group (first time in a batch of 3, the second time in a batch of 4).

Perfect participation in single season on the rise:
S1 - 14
S2 - 19
S3 - 24

Monty and Tommy_Leazaq are 2nd & 3rd manager to make SFs twice
Sortile9io still the only repeat finalist
Tommy_Leazaq has managed it both times with a non-major country (Egypt, Greece) :worship:

Japan is the only country that keeps making QFs (3rd,5th,1st)
USA made finals twice and lost both
Spain and Japan are also two-time semifinalists and medalists (as shown on the next slide)
Burkina Faso (WC3, 8th) and Chile (WC1, 8th) made QFs with their only appearance

Mario, do you have individual country records for all three seasons combined? I'd also love to see a breakdown by runtime. If you don't have these stats, let me know and I'll compile them.
