Voting Rules:
- You must watch all 4 films before you vote.
- To vote, rank the 4 films from most favorite to least favorite. (note: you're ranking the individual films, not the countries)

Voting deadline = Jul 4th
Countdown till deadline

The countries that end at 1st and 2nd place proceed to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
- Ranked by lowest average ranking.
- In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
- In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between three or four movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? Fewest #4-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #3 and #4).
Here's a quick summary of how the tournament worksShow
We start with 48 films from 48 countries. Each country has a manager who determines which movie will be watched. In the first round the countries are divided into 12 groups of 4. From each group the countries that end up at #1 and #2 proceed to the next round. In the 2nd round the 24 remaining countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3. The managers pick a new movie. The winner of each group proceeds to the next round. The final 8 countries compete one-on-one in the quarter finals (with a new movie of course) and so on till the final.

1. O fovos
2. Macario
3. Sjećaš li se, Dolly Bell?
4. 36

The title of Bosnian film is a question directed at Dolly Bell, he asks her if she remembers. It's not like he's asking third person if he remembers Dolly Bell. It confuses one whenever a comma isn't rightfully put.

The scorings for the current running matches, 1I and 1J, are pretty boring. Seems already clear which two are the favorites. But a lot can happen of course. Only 8 votes so far here.

This group is so one-sided compared with the others.
Not even Kusturica (in fact I think Dolly Bell is his weaker work) can resist two forum mafia!

Same here.
I do like his The Hunter and Alexander the Great though.

But Greece has a lot hidden gems to offer. No need to choose Angelopoulos.

Although his later works aren't Bosnian production. He left the country for good after "Time of the Gypsies" (original title is translated as Home for Hanging).

I hope I'm not breaking the rules by commenting on the films ;) I watched O Fovos last night. It seems the forum world cup likes well made, accessible, old, black and white movies with sex crimes, Es geschah am hellichten Tag being another example. Maybe a good formula to advance?!?! Contemporary conceptual movies probably less so, though I will give 36 every chance!!

I was (worryingly) reminded of my own childhood a bit watching this, brutal and stupid patriarchal father strangling his kids; "do as I say not as I do" philosophy; kind-hearted overly deferent long-suffering mother. The scene when Anestis dances is magical. Sadness of the way they deal with sexual morality. Melancholy beauty of the countryside. Had wanted some of those shots to linger longer, but that was not the way back then. O Fovos has set a high benchmark.

I am a little surprised Dolly Bell is falling by the wayside as I thought that was a popular movie, excited to see it.

and this is the biggest mystery / outrage of the cup so far
such an amazing talent, and a movie that is both formalistically minimalistic and very accesible at the same time. I guess it takes a certain mindset to really dig it that does not match well with what else is selected… it really is a mystery to me... the other three are very fine, but not great masterpieces either, so it should not be a case of too strong competition...

I like the concept and shots of 36. However, O fovos and Macario are two masterpieces great in both content and visuals, and they are hard to beat.

After missing the last two rounds, I should be able to vote again this time since I still have a week left and I'm not moving around anymore. Plus, I've seen 1 so only 3 to go which I can probably do over the weekend. So I, too, will give 36 a chance :p

I really liked O fovos when I saw it a while back, though, so it may be hard top that.

Such a tough round -- three of these four films were in my Favorites list (and the other film was good, too!). Thanks to tommy, Daviddoes, Cynical Cinephile, and Lonewolf for some great films!

Always interesting to see the different definitions of ratings. 5/10 is certainly not "fine" in my book. 5/10 is mostly "boring" or "bad but didn't hate it".

It doesn't help that my rating system is quite messy, even for myself. I mostly go with my feelings ''this movie deserves a...''. A 5/10 is average, but it goes from fine to boring, it depends on other factors, such as the music, the dialogues for example. ''bad but didn't hate it'' would be 4 or 3.
