This is match 1F of the third season of iCM Forum's Film World Cup.

Voting Rules:
- You must watch all 4 films before you vote.
- To vote, rank the 4 films from most favorite to least favorite. (note: you're ranking the individual films, not the countries)

Voting deadline = Apr 25th
Countdown till deadline

The countries that end at 1st and 2nd place proceed to the next round. The ranking of the match will be decided using these rules:
- Ranked by lowest average ranking.
- In case of a tie between two movies, head-to-head determines the winner (how many people thought A>B and how many thought B>A).
- In case there's still a tie after the previous rule or there is a tie between three or four movies, most #1-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? Fewest #4-votes determines the winner.
- Still a tie? The match will have a 3 day extension (except when the tie is only between #3 and #4).
Here's a quick summary of how the tournament worksShow
We start with 48 films from 48 countries. Each country has a manager who determines which movie will be watched. In the first round the countries are divided into 12 groups of 4. From each group the countries that end up at #1 and #2 proceed to the next round. In the 2nd round the 24 remaining countries will be divided into 8 groups of 3. The managers pick a new movie. The winner of each group proceeds to the next round. The final 8 countries compete one-on-one in the quarter finals (with a new movie of course) and so on till the final.

1. West Beyrouth (À l'abri les enfants) 8/10
2. Bulanti 6/10
3. Ingeborg Holm 4/10
4. Sanbiki no samurai 4/10

Not a great match for me. Japan is a country that I usually support throughout the World Cup, but I just can't in this match :'(

Took one from the 720p-page on KG. The others were less interesting. The pics on the AVI and the 1080p are dead.
Feel free to promote it with better pics.

Ooh nice start for Lebanon. Though I have to warn, we don't have great depth on our bench.

I've seen West Beyrouth and Ingeborg Holm before and so far Lebanon has my vote as well. But I still need to watch the other two.

Probably a publicity photo.
Shocking start for Japan.

Still I expect the most lopsided match.

I don't see the other Cup films having 1080p sshots - is that a requirement?

I would think Lebanon and Sweden are the favorites this round, but the Japanese entry looks pretty good and has been languishing on my watchlist for some time. Can't say anything about Turkey as I'm unfamiliar with the film and director. Hopefully it'll be a nice surprise.

Make sure to read the Criterion essay on the Japanese nom as well - it'll deepen your appreciation of the film.

Don't we have similar taste for the most part? I nominated it.

Anyways can't wait to lose.

At least Bulanti has a fun start. Four voters and Bulanti has been on each rank one time already.

Yeah I think there's some crossover in our taste for sure.

But you got dealt into a pretty tough round. On the plus side you get ~45 people watching a film with less than 100 checks. I picked Constans for a similar reason: love the film and it's woefully underseen, but I think there were probably a bunch of safer choices for Poland.

By the way this is one of the 3 rounds where every movie is official. Round 1B was however the only one where every movie is on a fairly permanent list.

3 movies currently clashing for 2nd are almost exactly 50 (and 100) years apart! Actually 51 and 102.

Is that all for today's sudden stats?

I think that puts Bulanti in the lead. Havent seen it but that's a surprise considering it has the lowest IMDb rating.
