playing a silent film in competition is a bold move. ingeborg holm is fantastic -- but you're always gonna have some voters who don't like silent films, no matter how good they are :(

Its really hard to follow the pre 1915 features. Maybe Ingeborg Holm is beside of some Louis Feuillade Movies the best of them. I liked it more than i expected but for me it is not really a movie which can challenge my favourites of the 20's ;).

1. West Beirut
2. Three Outlaw Samurai
3. Ingeborg Holm
4. Nausea

A painful vote since Sjöström is the greatest director competing in the whole cup (I think he shot his first masterpiece in 1917, though) and Turkey is a great cinematography to explore (and it's usually ill-treated in this forum).

Wonderful round, but so hard to rank. All four films were great.

1. Sanbiki no samurai (Japan)
2. Bulanti (Turkey)
3. Ingeborg Holm (Sweden)
4. West Beyrouth (Lebanon)

2. West Beyrouth - 7/10
3. Ingeborg Holm - 6.5/10
4. Bulanti - 5/10

Sanbiki no samurai - I liked the little bits of humor sprinkled throughout the movie.
West Beyrouth - Solid coming of age movie.
Ingeborg Holm - The story is rather predictable.
Bulanti - Slow movie with an uninteresting (to me) main character.

Sanbiki hasn't received a vote lower than #2 for twelve in a row votes now.

Image Sanbiki no samurai: 2 (42-21)
Image West Beyrouth (À l'abri les enfants): 2.429 (33-30)
Image Bulanti: 2.667 (28-35)
Image Ingeborg Holm: 2.905 (23-40)

If Bulantie drops one place more, we finally got the order right. -_-

1. Ingeborg Holm 8/10
Best film from this year that I've seen and probably the best director to ever enter the World Cup. Very moving.

2. Bulanti 7/10
Not seen any by the director before and Turkish cinema is underseen by me. New favorite from this country and a director I want to see more of. Film lost me a bit at the end when the imagery became so very obvious and I felt there were nothing more to unlock.

3. Sanbiki no samurai 7/10
Quite good and the completely opposite of Bulanti in its very brisk pace. My issue here is that the story is a bit all over the place because of this action movie pace. I would appreciate more character interactions.

4. West Beyrouth (À l'abri les enfants) 6/10
Really good take on its historical time and a decent coming of age to boot. Needed a little more edge to it for me to really be invested in it.
