I'll make the schedule this week, but haven't decided yet about the starting date. Also depends on my trip to Paris during the holidays. ;)

After the deadline, I can reveal the schedule as soon as I'm online (if every managers did his job before the deadline), but as you've seen yesterday that could sometimes be 17 later then you guys hoped it to be. :P

The big hitters should be more mixed. I mean, who'd ever want a repeat of the Egypt affair?

Are you understanding what these pots are? Each 1st round group will contain one country from each pot

When do you draw the potlots?

Not even the countries within one pot are of same strength, so knowing whether Argentina or Malaysia is your third opponent, may strongly affect which pick you're going to use in the R1. Being Japan's manager, you are allowed to 'save' a better film for R2 as part of strategy.

Two questions (sections bolded above):
1. Will there be seeding for round 2? If so, how will that work?
2. It's only one movie per director per country, right? i.e. UK could pick The Lady Vanishes while USA could pick Vertigo if there was no check limit?

Fergy, remember it's England, not UK. Someone might use Wales or N. Ireland next time. If we started that way, let it be so.

1) I believe the 2nd stage will have the same potting as R1, only with remaining countries.
2) Yes, only one. But as far as I remember, you can use a film by the same director in case it's co-directed with another person.

1) We haven't discussed this yet. Previously didn't we just do it randomly from the stage where it was one-on-one? This is the first time we're making groups of more than 1 in the 2nd round. It's alright with me to do pots, but like in the real WC, it should be based on performance in round 1.
2) Yes. If someone picks a movie by director A for country X, another manager can pick a movie by the same director for country Y.
With co-production you rule out multiple directors for that country for next rounds, so for example: you can't pick a Coen brothers movie in round 1 and in the next something only by Ethan. Same goes for segmented movies.

I did the draw yesterday, so I know the groups. I will reveal it after the deadline when every manager picked their movie.

Agree, it's also because that rule is valid in UEFA competitions; Winners of current Europa League cannot meet one another in the Round of 32, coz they're granted favorable position during the draw.

Myself. I did it once in season 2 with real papers and my daughters did the draw, but it takes time. So I just randomized the four pots in Excel and put them next to each other. That takes a minute instead of an hour. ^_^

I made the schedule as well. I decided to start on December the 31st. That way people have the chance to start watching prior to the first match, but nobody is rushed into watching movie during the holidays.

In previous seasons it was preferred to have a deadline at the end of the weekend and not at the beginning, half of the matches will start and finish at Sunday. The other half will start and finish at Wednesday.

Round 1 ends at August the 8th.

For us, holidays start on jan 1st. That only means 3 extra watchdays though, in january.

I need November to watch lots of potential entries so I won't be submitting it early unless I get a belter of a film but even then I might hold fire. My wife goes away for a week near the end of the month so that helps :)

It impacts my viewing schedule considerably so I will probably not make my selection known before the deadline day.

Better say in two years. Next year we'll still be going with coming season, which will last for 14 months. Season 4 won't start earlier than mid 2019.

Until Fergenaprido pays here a visit, I shall remind him that P. Ramlee films are ineligible for Malaysia because Singapore became independent only in 1965, AFTER he made most of his films. The Malay Film Studio wasn't set up in Kuala Lumpur, but in Singapore. I'm saying this coz he checked one of Ramlee's films today.
But that shouldn't bother our dear manager coz those films are dated as f*ck.

He did, however set up another studio in KL (Merdeka Film Studios), which made these: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0222956?ref_=tt_dt_co

I perceive this as something he had to do due to country separation issues.

If he would submit Tiga abdul, I would accept it, because IMDb says Malaysia. I'm not doing more investigation than that. So what does this mean? When the schedule is complete, should I send it to Mario first to check for ineligible titles like this? You're a much better researcher than I am.
