Yeah but IMDb isn't always right. Otherwise Indian films made before 1949 would be under UK.
British Empire, innit?
But I dont think IMDb treats colonies that way.

Come on. In the world of football players change countries all the time. I mean 2/3 of the Northern Ireland team are from England, but have one parent(s)/grandparent(s) from NI.
If the manager feels the movie is from «his» country and IMDb says the same, that’s good enough for me. Don’t really care tbh, I’m only spectating. But anything that means less policing is a +1 from me.

Yeah, and the Armenian bobsleigh 2-seat team never actually set foot in Armenia, even though they competed at the Winter Olympics for the country. I know that as a fan of The Room, because the drug dealer who held Tommy Wiseau's voyeur-neighbour at the gunpoint was the brake man.

Yeah, but then this goes back to what we were talking about before. Countries with big cinematic trajectory tend to have big production companies. They usually coproduce films in many other countries. Like when we did the Canada poll. A lot of films list Canada as one of their countries but the only Canadian thing they had was the money. Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Brazil do this a lot too with Latin American countries. So it would be unfair to let Spain choose any movie from anywhere in the world that has nothing to do with the country except money or heritage. It would make the distinction between big countries vs small countries even bigger.

It's been set so that pots 1 and 3 are all European countries, so the only question is whether it's stronger than any country in pot 2. It's probably similar strength to some but it'd be a borderline judgement call.

We've not seen proof of that. They'd have to show not tell this season then.

Stop splitting hairs. Isn't it interesting that sometimes pot-strength isn't equally allocated each time? Tough countries' managers very often use average films to compete with, so who cares anyway.
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:37-40)

Today or in remaining 18 days, it won't change anything unless you have a busy viewing schedule.
Indeed. I don't see why you want to be the last. I won't present the schedule before all noms are in. If you miss the deadline, I'll pick one myself.....

I assume that he's looking at tough countries' managers latest checks, so he could assess whether he should use stronger or weaker film in the first round, so he'd advance as further as possible.

Yeah, monty is just being monty again. I was reacting to Nathan's comment more.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about that. I've just been eagerly anticipating this for a while, and knew which country and first round film I wanted about the time that I joined in last time, and assumed everyone else had as well, and was quite surprised that he only has 1/3 of the films. (Now, if I make it past the first round, I'll have some sorting out to do, so, I may not be as ready as fast...)
Sorry if my last comment came across as snarky, as it wasn't intended that way, if it did.

Your forgetfulness means you're not quite commited to the cup, which further means you don't watch too many films to make the best selection, which means you can submit your film right now.
Unless you arrogantly see yourself above the others, being Japan's manager and somebody who reveals his pick the last... as if some kind of illuminati is present. I bow to your highness but that's gonna make your losses only more painful.

I expect everyone who forgets should have their managerial seat taken away.

Why? You're the one who desperately wants to be the last manager to nominate a movie, while there being no good reasons to do so. So you should accept the consequences when you submit too late.

Japanese adult industry is quite productive, and it requires much more time to pick a film.

Not to mention the hard time one has getting IMDb to add these cinematic gems...
