iCM Forum's Favorite Films of the 2010s, 9th edition; Nominations

iCM Forum's Favourite Films of 2010s
9th edition
Nominations

Image

Since 2013 each year we chose our favorite films of the than current decade; the 2010s. In 2020, when the decade was over, we made up the final score. Now 3 years later it is time again to revisit it to see which movies were here to stay, which ones disappeared over time and which ones were the sleeper hits slowly crawling up over the years.

Deadline = 30 May 2023
  • Nominees must be from 2010 - 2019 (According to IMDb, which means the year in brackets next to the title, not the release-date in your country.)*
  • Shorts, mini-series and TV-episodes from anthology series where the episodes are unrelated, are allowed. Tv-series aren't allowed.*
*Imdb will be leading in this, but if you have good arguments exceptions to the rule can be made in consultation
  • Imdb-lists or iCM-lists are accepted. (If you can't make one of those, ask another user to help you out.)
  • Lists can be any length.
  • Each nominee can only be named once (of course)
  • Lists can be ranked or unranked or partially-ranked In a partially-ranked list, the top X films are ranked and everything after that point is unranked. When not specified I will consider a list as ranked.
Scoring for ranked lists: Half-life = 50 (since that's what we've been using every year)
Scoring for unranked lists: Every film on your list receives the same number of points (the average of what they would have received if your list was ranked).
List length will be 250 again.

Some help:
2010s movies you rated on imdb
2010s movies on a imdb list (replace XXXX with the list id)

Enter the Void - only a few hundred festivalgoers around the world will have seen this in the 2000s. Always bothers me.

But doesn't that go for many films released at the end of any decade at festivals? So not really going to make an exception for this.

Also that still makes the IMDb release year correct, so ineligible for this poll

FYI for any fans of a certain Raul Ruiz film - IMDb at some point apparently mashed together the film and mini-series versions of Mysteries of Lisbon - then later broke them apart again. So I, among others, have had a rating for the mini-series - which I haven't seen - and not for the film, which I have (and which will be high on my list). Grrr. Anyway, I'll have to correct my list from last time (I failed to do so for the all-time favorites poll, one reason that film did poorly).

Mysteries of Lisbon (film, 266 minutes)
Mysteries of Lisbon (mini-series, 317 minutes
It was the truth, vivid and monstrous, that all the while he had waited the wait was itself his portion..

yeah you're right I googled around a bit and there is a scene where the monks are out in the cold. I saw the film at the time but can't remember much.

Born in 1970! Unfortunately, I can't remember the first film I saw. The following three films that I saw when I was young left strong memories: Krakatit (1948, Vavra), Dance of the Vampires (1967, Polanski), Paper Moon (1973, Bogdanovich).

Very early draft, 1-45 ranked.

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls568637262/?ref_=otl_1

This goes without saying, but I'm guessing for the future 2020's list/poll, 2019 dated films that received wide releases in 2020 or after won't count for that one? I'm thinking of stuff like Sound of Metal, First Cow, etc. If so, I've got to re-arrange the order of those within this list, and also make some cuts from my 20's poll draft. :whistling:

Update 5/13: Now ranked through 45.

Update 5/17: Now ranked through 50.

You assumed correctly, 2019 will be ineligible for the upcoming 2020s poll.

I'm glad we're doing this list again, and I'm interested to see what changes occur after three years. My guess is that the top 20 will see little change, but I bet there will be some big changes lower down the list, especially among movies that were released in the latter years of the decade.

My list is below. Compared to the last edition, I deleted eight entries and added 33.

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls074289293/
Top 31 ranked. Unranked thereafter.

I decided to break down my list by year.
2010: 21
2011: 22
2012: 22
2013: 29
2014: 23
2015: 16
2016: 15
2017: 19
2018: 12
2019: 23

Not surprising that there are fewer movies later in the decade, though 2019 is a puzzling outlier for me in that regard.

Last time we did this list
Years:
2010 25
2011 26
2012 34
2013 33
2014 34
2015 23
2016 18
2017 23
2018 18
2019 16
These were the stats,

Yeah the second part of the decade could/should have some additional films, and there are quite a ton that i think are surprising aren't in the top 250 yet. There's still an early 2010s bias in that list (tho not as bad as TSPDT 21st century or ICM best films of the 2010s list).

For my top 100
2010: 4
2011: 5
2012: 5
2013: 9
2014: 14
2015: 8
2016: 11
2017: 18
2018: 13
2019: 13

Mine isn't exactly as balanced as well for some reason. Might be recency bias and that I barely watched films when I was a minor (early 2010s i was still a minor). Though i also have that feeling that there just are less interesting films from the early 10s, especially 2010 and 2011 than later on. Mid and late 00s also do worse than early 00s for some reason for me.

2015 is remarkably bad, because it's the year i've seen the most films from (so there isn't that bias of "i have simply seen more, it's more like despite having seen more from), though commercially it was a good year. Many films that did well at the box office.

Further down the list its probably more balanced with more films from the 2010s and in particular the 2014-2017 flourishing, but they get way less points since they're lower in my list.

I used to think 2014 was my favorite year for film, but i think i'm changing opinion to 2017. 2019 though seems really strong too and i still have quite some films i need to watch from that year or should watch, though i made some progress luckily already compared to like 1-2 years ago. I'm about getting spread out in the sense that i have seen around at least 50 films from every year (only 2018 and 2019 being slightly behind at respectively 45 and 43 films seen, though it's more selectively than maybe before in that i have seen less filler films and blockbusters).

My list will definitely look differently compared to 2020, i checked the results of the list and I didn't vote for many favs of mine yet, simply because I haven't seen them back than yet.
