Europe
Azerbaijan is listed both here and in Southern/Western Asia.
I would argue that Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan (and maybe Georgia), despite having some territory in Europe, should not be in this list.
The list is missing Yugoslavia, Serbia & Montenegro, Andorra, and Faroe Islands (though probably on Yugoslavia would have films that would make the list).

Eastern Asia
The list is missing Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos (assuming any of the them has a film that would make the list) and lists 'Korea' but not 'North Korea'.

Southern/Western Asia
Azerbaijan is listed in both here and in Europe.
The list is missing Afghanistan and India, but films from these countries show up in the top 250.
The list is missing Bangladesh and Nepal.

It seems you've covered all of Asia except the 5 Central Asian former soviet republics. Maybe add them to the Southern/Western Asia list?

I think these regional lists are great for showcasing cinema from around the world. Would it be too much trouble to make an African list and a Latin American & Caribbean list? Then everyone would be included except USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other small countries of Oceania. Maybe there could be an Anglophone list, with the big English-Speaking countries (including non-English films from those countries) and move UK & Ireland out of Europe and into this list?
I copied the lists from Wikipedia and added a few countries that are used on IMDb. I can't remember if I removed some countries but I can add those back. These lists were more of an experiment anyway. Nobody asked for them, I added them just for fun really.

Asian lists come from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography ... a_for_Asia

European list comes from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe#Politics

I can add new lists, just give me all the countries.

Fair enough. The only things I would push for then are countries that actually make many films, or have one or two notable films that might make the list:

1. adding Yugoslavia to Europe, because it seems like a lot of films from that former country are missing from the list
2. clarifying what you mean by 'South Korea' and 'Korea' on the Eastern Asia list
3. adding India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh to the Western/Southern Asia list
4. adding Cambodia and North Korea to the Eastern Asia list

Done. The changes will be visible when I update the lists.

On IMDb early Korean films are listed under just "Korea": http://www.imdb.com/search/title?countries=xko

Hm, could we somehow do a countdown of this list again? I mean, it's a rolling, continuously updated list, but I guess a proper countdown thread would give it a bit more deserving focus.
I just don't know how to go about it in the best way.
Also, countdowns are fun.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Lists updated. Also we've reached 101 participants. Thanks all!

We can do that, but when? And which lists?

Lists updated. I also added missing screenshots to all of the top 1000 films.

I also created a filter so that films can be excluded from lists. For instance here's all of the films excluded from the France list (films with 0 rank): http://themagician.host56.com/highestra ... opped.html

If you want me to exclude other entries in any of the lists just post the imdb URLs in this thread with the list name.

Thanks a lot for the work, this is really nice and I enjoy going through this list.
Just a little glitch : the initial post of this topic still mentions 96 contributors, yet there are 102 voters for 12 angry men.

It's probably a good thing that there are no changes in the bottom 100. That just means that we don't watch bad movies :)

But there are no animation there either? Foodfight and the two italian Titanics don't have enough votes?

Also I see you write that Sult is danish, but that is actual a 33/33/33 co-prod of scandinavia, but maybe you don't want to mess up the list with more countries?

Yes, only the first country is currently displayed. Also all of the data comes from IMDb, I don't modify it in any way. It's all automated.

It's no longer possible to export someone else's ratings so this project is dead, unless someone has figured out how to do it.

The old export URL simply redirects to my own ratings export URL so that no longer works, and trying the new URL with someone else's id gives forbidden error, e.g. try exporting mine (it's public): https://www.imdb.com/user/ur27588704/ratings/export. I can't even find "Export" on anyone else's ratings page.

So unfortunately I can't do a new update :/

If themagician himself can't think of a solution for this, I doubt someone else can. Maybe bobbybrown?

@blueboybob: Sure that's possible, but outdates very quickly of course. We could use it though if we do a highest rated poll yearly just like other polls. If there's no solution to the problem above, I'm in for that.

the only thing I can think of would be if we were all able to post our own exports to one place where @thamagician 's bot/program/whatever could then run against, but where and how often, etc would be an issue - it's also doubtful that we'd have any level of the participation numbers as now

I wonder if this is a temporary change on IMDb's part. Has anyone check the oxymoronically named getsatification site?

I don't think that's a bad thing. The latest update of the list includes lots of users that are no longer with us anymore. I kinda like the idea to start from fresh and get a list of the current userbase.

okay, yeah, I can see that. :) I see we have 1590 members - does that mean the entire member db was brought over (since we didn't have to register as new users, that makes sense)

so, I'm curious how many people have logged on here to the new forum and what percentage of that would be willing to do a monthly IMDb export and save. Ten of us wouldn't make a terribly useful list, but 100+ active users would be great. And judging by how quickly most folks contribute to 500<400 and Favorites, I'm sure we could figure out a way to do a monthly of quarterly update

and yes, I'm willing to help, but I know @themagician had an automated system for this up 'til now :worship:

Yes, the 1590 accounts from zeta were brought over, but I wasn't even talking about this in the light of the move to this place. Some big users of the past have left us in the course of time. But that are also several small users who participated in this project. Some people came to the forum, posted for a while, shared the link to their ratings and vanished after a while. But since they shared their ratings, they were still counted in every update of this list, including all the movies they watched in the meantime. That's why I enjoy the thought of starting from scratch.

I would be up for monthly exports, I loved watching the list change, though I mostly only followed the shorts list.

We could always keep the latest export someone has shared and then the only updates will be from people who have re-posted, will keep it a little more stable that way.

That really sucks if you can't export others ratings anymore. Hopefully this is just a temporary change.

That said, I like mighty's idea the best of the other options to keep this project alive. As long as we can archive/still access these old versions of the list. I use them quite often when deciding what to watch, especially the shorts and films with less than 5 votes.

I had a script for downloading ratings from the rating page that I used for a few users who had too many ratings to export. I got it working with the new layout. And luckily the new layout has all the necessary data to generate the lists. Project saved! It just takes a while to download all the lists this way.

How should we proceed then? Start from zero? Create a new thread?
