I finally understood why I had minor problems collecting a great Top 10 or even good Top 20 when I read OldAle's post in the nominations thread.
Just a terribly mid year for Hollywood and American films altogether ..

It randomly occurred to me that it might be worth counting how many of these movies I saw in theaters during their original release. I was 7 and 8 years old in 1992, and I can remember seeing six of these movies in theaters: Aladdin, A League of Their Own, Sister Act, Home Alone 2, Hero, and Leap of Faith.

On one hand, I consider that an uninspiring lineup of movies. On the other hand, my mother never saw a movie until she was 11 years old, so I think I should consider myself very fortunate.

I don't think I've seen any of those movies again in the past 31 years. From what I can remember, little blocho enjoyed Home Alone 2 and Aladdin and disliked all of the others.

Not in the top 3 (though, as someone who's lukewarm at best on The Player, I kinda forgot it was this well-liked), but I was pretty surprised to see Rebels of the Neon God and Life Goes On both in the top 5. Even moreso Hyènes in the top 10.

Missed the deadline to update that I rewatched And Life Goes On yesterday and that it is easily top 10 worthy, though it would have made no difference luckily.

Excited Rebels of the Neon God managed to land on 4th, but gutted by the terrible showing for Careful.

I'm pleasantly surprised that 'Rebels of the Neon God' came in at #4. I only had it in the lower half of my own ballot, as it's been a few years since I saw it and I remembered other films a little bit better. I probably could have had it a little higher. I thought it would make the top 15 but I didn't anticipate it coming in this high.

Cool too to see that I wasn't the sole voter for the Dayan or the Scher.

You made me consider the same thing. I am about 20 years older than you, and was in the midst of my peak movie-viewing life at the time, so my numbers are a bit higher - 9 of the top 10 (lacking only Rebels of the Neon God, which did play in Chicago and was seen by at least one of my friends, but missed by me at the time) and around 55 overall. Like I said in my comments on my list posting, it was a great time to be seeing movies, for me at least.

Seen 76 total - so in the 31 years since seeing some of these in the cinema, I've only managed to increase their numbers by 21. I wonder what that says about me, or the films.
