Okay, I think I'm ready to get this countdown started. I've got my first batch of screenshots done, and I'll grab the rest as we go along.

First, though, some films from the Top 1000 that either used to be in the Top 250, or that I think perhaps might have been missed because they recently became unofficial. Every film ranked #11 or better on someone's list made the Top 1000 (top 1014, since 16 films tied at #999 - those whose 11th place vote were the only one received).

Here are films from the 900s to start. I'll post the others after the main poll because otherwise it will spoil too much. :)

#998 (-843, #155) Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018, David Slade), 87.06 points, 2301 checks, 120 favourites (IMDb)
Poll History: 155, --, --

beasterne (#11)
#992 (-759, #233) Contes immoraux [Immoral Tales] (1973, Walerian Borowczyk), 87.43 points, 387 checks, 25 favourites (IMDb)
Poll History: 233, 150, 277

Perception de Ambiguity (#404)
sortile9io (#16)
sol (#206)
#985 (+new, #--) Posetitel muzeya [Visitor of a Museum] (1989, Konstantin Lopushanskiy), 87.74 points, 170 checks, 30 favourites (IMDb)

zomgmouse (#155)

Some pretty massive movements (both up and down) in that batch. I'll admit I'm one person who removed Un homme de têtes from their ballot, but I did not expect such a tumble for a film that was #6 the first time around. Visitor of a Museum keeps popping in and out of the ICM Most Favorited list, so it's poor showing here isn't that much of a surprise (it rejoined the list again last week, though who knows for how long). Kaigenrai being so low and only getting 1 vote is a shocker, though.

If you forgot about these films, now is the perfect time to add them to your ballot for next time!

I wondered why I wouldn't have included Kaigenrei on my list... but I see it is on 500<400, so it shouldn't have been eligible here...

And now for the runners-up (251-275). Including screenshots for this batch. Decided to post 25 films to help make sure I've got everything right before proceeding with the main countdown, so please let me know ASAP if I've got your list wrong, or it's missing, or if something is wrong with the countdown format. Thanks :)

Also, I still can't figure out how to change the order of voters to be either alphabetical or by rank/points. So sorry if you prefer it a different way. :/

I also noticed that for me the screenshots hosted on the forum don't display.... I'm guessing it's because that security issue still hasn't been fixed? I hope most of you can still see them, but please let me know if they're down for everyone. I think I can figure out a way to switch to non-forum URLs for most films since I have the original links still saved in the spreadsheet, but the community list no longer includes them so I won't have them for all. Also let me know if any of the images are too large - I forget how to resize the images and a quick google search doesn't help.

Edit: I've replaced the forum URLs for this batch for now, so all images should appear for everyone. It really would be great to get that security issue fixed once and for all. <_<

Edit 2: Removed this batch of runners-up due to errors encountered. Will restart the countdown in a new post below.

Uh-oh. That means something might have gone wrong with the script. I went through all films and added the official ones to the ineligible csv. I'll go back and check what went wrong. Good eye beavis. Thanks!

Edit: Hmm, it is indeed in my ineligibles list. Results are paused for now until I can figure this out and ensure there aren't more ineligible films floating around. :/

Edit 2: Okay I found filmcounter8.3 and used that instead. Now the results have 262 more films in them. So clearly something was screwy. Looks like it did properly remove all ineligibles, though, and the final results are only slightly different. I think I can have things fixed shortly. :fingers_crossed:

Edit 3: Actually, a fair bit of shake-up, because all films with 8-digit ttIDs were excluded, so that explains why more films are now in the list.

Hold your ire. :folded:

A ) Wait until the new results are posted; you may be pleasantly surprised.
B ) Read carefully; it only has 1 top 5 vote, the other vote is unranked.

Gonna take a bit longer, as I found a couple hundred tv episodes on someone's list, :guns: and removing them is tedious, as I'm also checking to make sure they're not anthology episodes. Doing one last run-through to see if I've missed anything. Gonna take a break and have some dinner and watch a movie and then come back to this when I'm less grumpy.

The last two I have seen by Anders Thomas Jenson (including Flickering Lights) kind of faded on me by the end (you'll probably like Riders of Justice), but he is one of the most talented Danish script writers, and he has not only done darkish, quirky / eccentric dramadies (Men and Chicken is my favorite of those he has directed), but has also written a bunch of hardcore dramas, the most well known of which have been directed by Susan Bier (like Brothers, and After the Wedding), many of which feature Mads Mikkelsen and/or Ulrich Thomsen.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've actually seen all of Jensen's films and also the most known films by Susanne Bier, although I've only seen the Brothers remake, which much probably is the weaker version. Unlike sol, I'm a big ATJ fan.

That's a name I've managed to miss completely, apart from one of Susan Bier's films that he wrote, which I was so-so on. Pretty damn weak on contemporary Scandinavian cinema I am.
It was the truth, vivid and monstrous, that all the while he had waited the wait was itself his portion..

Surprised Sol doesn't like his films given my sense of his taste, and some of the filmmakers I've heard him trump before.

I like Scandinavian humor, and I think that is part of it for me.

WILD jumps in the rankings, for both the 900-something batch and those runners-up.
That makes me guess it's another poll that is heavily affected by the voter pool (as with 400<500). I'm still excited for the films that perform strongly in each edition ... and the rest, too!

This is the kind of list you have to make from scratch every time it reoccurs because you're bound to miss stuff if you're just basing your current list off of what was or wasn't official 2+ years ago.

51 voters this time, compared to 60 last time and a few more the time before. The number of points the top films get are comparable too, but the composition of voters changing does indeed seem to be a big factor. That, and films gaining and losing official status.

Yeah. What I did was I used Tim's lists as a way to filter out the films on official lists from my spreadsheet and updated my list that way. Took longer than most polls, but ensured that I didn't miss any films that had turned unofficial since the last time. I wish there was an easier way, but that's the most efficient way I've been able to come up with so far.

Yes, it's a picture of two guys in a laundromat with a Spanish-language sign on the wall.

Great, thanks. Wanted to check that it was just the security thing that hasn't been fixed yet, and not another problem with my formatting :D

And now on the to actual Top 250!

I'll try not to go too fast, but I am leaving for vacation Wednesday morning (Eastern North America time) so if I don't finish by then, expect gaps in the countdown until the end.

Yeah, it's the same with me, but I haven't done disable those security features so that's why. The ones you're seeing are mostly the new ones that I found myself for this poll, since they're hosted on imgur instead of the forum.

Constans is our first totally new entry, having never been nominated before. There are 9 in total, with only 2 being films from newly eligible years (one from 2019 and one from 2020, with two more 2019 films in the 250-300 range), and the rest being older films that have turned unofficial or been rediscovered by the community.

With Cosmos in the last post and Father and Son in this post, there's only one two-vote film remaining.
