So the idea to refresh this project has come up a few times since themagician left the forum but it hasn't really gone anywhere. I'm keen to get it going again even if I have to do a lot of manual work but the main issue is that IMDb removed the ability to download other people's ratings. This means that everyone who wants to participate will have to download their own ratings and then send them to me.
--------------------------------- This can be done in two ways:
1) Open the ratings.csv file and copy and paste all data into a new tab into this Google sheet. Rename the tab with your username. This will be public.
2) Upload the ratings.csv file to WeTransfer, or any file sharing website that you like, and pm me with the URL. These will be kept private.
---------------------------------
The lists will be updated every 3 months: 1 Jan, 1 Apr, 1 July, 1 Oct. I will bump the thread about a week before but you can update your ratings at any time. If you post or update your ratings on the Google sheet, right click your tab name -> change colour -> choose the EIGHTH colour on the second row: Spoiler
Or post here to let me know you have updated your sheet.
I'd be up for this - the only thing is when would be the cutoff to submit? I'm sure I and many others would be watching a fair bit before this is calculated.
Regarding zomg's argument, I imagine this project makes the most sense if votes are re-sent / imported / edited every beginning of the month or with a sweet quarterly update? But most important is to get a solid core for this at first.
No cut-off for now. The sooner lists are submitted means I can start getting formulas and info organised so updating will be a little easier for me. Will also be a useful guide to see how many lists we'll need to get a fair representation of votes. When we have a good number of lists and things seem to be ready I'll give everyone a heads up so they can send a new file if they want.
And ye re: Torgo we can work out a schedule that works a bit later. Some people might not want to update their list super regularly so monthly may be too soon for some people. Quarterly I think would be nice but we can sort that out once we've got things rolling.

Instead of asking people to copy/paste their ratings into a new tab, I wonder if it would be easier to have a Google Drive folder that anyone can upload files to (although I haven't done this before, so I'm not sure what options are available).
I was considering that as an option too but there wasn't a way to 'lock' any of the files (I don't think forum members will do anything to mess it up but if the link is public it's possible some weirdos can get in and delete stuff) and I think you have to download Dropbox and Google drive to use them and people might not want to download and learn new software.

I love the idea, and hope this will be a success. Thanks for bringing it up.
I've just pasted my export of imdb rankings in a tab named "cinephage". I'm not too familiar with googledocs, but it looks like this is working.
Looks good cinephage. Ondie, you can either copy the stuff from your ratings.csv into the Google sheet listed in the OP or upload the file to WeTransfer and pm it to me.

I like the idea, but I think it would be a burden to you to update the ratings every month after receiving tons of file.
I think it should work better with separate files in one folder, for each member a file. Then you can give that member editing rights to his own file. In the calculation file you can import data from other files. https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3093340?hl=nl

I quit IMDB a long time ago, but maybe somebody knows of an easy way of doing this via Letterboxd? I can download my ratings there but then there's no tt-code or link to IMDB obviously, which I assume is necessary to tabulate the results.

Could you already test it out. I'm curious to what movies would be the highest rated as of now (esp. with Onderhond and my votes in ). I think the current list would be very weird.
The Green Mile has an average rating currently of 4.5/10. Still too high though. I didn't like it. Onderhond didn't like it. Cinewest didn't like it either.

All good Laki. I also have Torgo's ratings and I did a sample for just feature films/TV movies/video (we can decide exactly what we wanna include later) with 4/5 votes and the results can be seen in the first tab of the Google sheet.

Definitely a genre film bias as you go down the list

I'd like to do this as well, but I'm not too sure what to do.
When I click on one of the sheet options at the bottom that gives me a blank document, where on it should I enter my ratings file? Or is it done another way?

Select and copy everything in the ratings file and then click on the very first cell (A1) and press paste.

Thanks for that. There must be some setting that isn't activated on Excel on my laptop because I get a message that copy-and-paste isn't enabled, and when I press ctrl+V it doesn't seem to work either. I'm probably copying at the wrong place. I think I'll just leave it for now. It's a bit annoying blundering around and not really knowing what I'm doing. I might take another shot at it after asking someone about it.

Yeah copy-and-paste through the mouse doesn't work on Google sheets for some reason but idk why ctrl+v wouldn't work. Not sure if you're able to access the import option on Google sheets, but if so you click File -> import -> upload -> select file -> accept the default settings and click ok.
You could also try uploading to WeTransfer: https://wetransfer.com/. If you click the ... and change to 'get transfer' link you don't have to fill out any of the details or sign in, then just select the file, upload and pm me the link.

I've sent you a PM with the WeTransfer link. I hope that that'll work.
Cheers for the help. I'm looking forward to seeing how this fun project shapes up.
Always a fan of this project from the beginning. But right now, I had stopped rating and checking temporarily. Need to restart that to get my rating up to date. Good to know that theres no deadline of sorts. So. will share my rating after I get them up to date.

does anyone know the upper limit on a Google Sheet or workbook?

Had a quick Google and doesn’t seem like there’ll be a problem. I’m keeping the main calculations in an already very big and laggy spreadsheet to keep the Google sheet as small and smooth as possible.
