Sometimes i think the 1001-2000 countdown is more interesting.

Still lots of favourites
Still lots of undiscovered gems
More movies from 2010's.

The top 250 and especially top 100 is less interesting.

Also don't know why MCU gets so much hate, if we still have Raiders of the Lost Ark in the top 150 and movies like Toy Story 2 in top 250. There are even lots of Disney's in the list (Zootopia almost making top 1000, while Snow White is lower than Zootopia surprised me. But Zootopia is probably more accessible yes, and Snow White is obviously showing it's age. YET this forum is just known to not have an issue with age, so it surprises me).

Sure, i don't think it'd fit well in our top 1000 but it's not like Raiders of the Lost Ark is like better than Iron Man. I enjoy both, but they're not top list material, and i'm unsure why ICM thinks Raiders of the Lost Ark should be considered a classic that almost hits the top 100 while the other one (Iron Man) even didn't crack top 2500. Not really sure, esp. for the artificial age label, and it being more renowned among critics circles as well as that famous director name on the movie's label, but I agree with Onderhond... For all the hate MCU gets, there are lots of similar movies that end up pretty high in the list, so I don't think that hate directed towards MCU is kinda justified. Just my two cents...

The Matrix is also kinda overrated, good movie sure (it almost made my list), but top 50 sounds a bit exaggerated, I believe.

Also glad 12 angry men made a drop. 2nd place was a bit exaggerated. Psycho is also a good movie (i voted for it), but 3rd is a bit ridicilous as well.

1 and 2 seems good for whatever critical acclaim they get (2001 and Godfather, perfectly fine). Movies like Psycho and 12 Angry Men seem inflated because no-one really dislikes it, except for Onderhond of course. Neither do I dislike them. But I don't think both are top 10 movies. Perhaps I need to drop Psycho a few places next year, since I clearly prefer Rear Window over it.

Hopefully the VVitch (have to rewatch that one), Only God Forgives (I also need to rewatch that one) and American Honey (perhaps will rewatch it too, but I voted for it), will crack top 1000 next year, so i'm certainly going to watch these. Also will watch Mysterious Skin as promised.

I'll make some kind of watchlist of what movies I want to watch out of these list (just the ones that I absolutely want to see and didn't yet).

Also, cancel culture is not hitting ICM (perhaps Ki-Duk Kim has an issue with it), but Roman Polanski is more beloved than at any other point in history. I don't have an opinion of it. There are of course more people that worked on a movie than just Polanski alone, it's the entire cast & crew, and cancelling a movie because of the actions of a single person, undoes the work of the entire crew & cast, and it's a controversial discussion i'd rather not open. The same thing applies to movies that starr Kevin Spacey (although in that case, you actually see him in action, and with hindsight, you know that in some roles he didn't had to act, because he was it already). But fine.

Will certainly watch some Polanski's (his four most essentials (and perhaps accessible ones) in my regard: Chinatown, Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Le locataire), i don't have an issue watching a director who is accused of ... because I can put that in perspective, and rather think about the effort of cast & other crew members. I just don't financially support them, until they literally die.

Also, i'll try to watch some Hsiao-Hsien Hou, but availability (and language barrier) is an issue, but since he literally does not have a movie in the top 1000 and is so close to cracking it, i feel a bit responsible for that. I'm also planning on watching Kar-wai Wong but i'm saying that a long time already, but sooner or later i'll. His style should suit me from what I've read. :)

For my generation, seeing that movie in Theater was amazing.
To me the breakthrought in visual effect is kinda like the one we had with Star Wars (witch i didn't see in theater ... started with Empire strike back)

So i understand if it's above the other blockbusters...

Holy moly, and I thought City of Sadness was low...
For all the griping in some quarters every year about how oriented this list is to the same-old-same-old - and part of that's justified I'd say - there are a lot of classic-era and later directors who just don't do that well here, certainly not compared to TSP, and Welles is another poster boy for that. Curiously Lady From Shanghai and The Trial did better here than on TSP but the rest are mostly much lower. I get the impression in general that he's just not that well-liked here and even most of those who do rate him highly would never put him near the top.

Then again he did have his highest score ever on the director's poll, and 7 people put him in their top 10. So...I guess it's all fairly meaningless, and it's hard to draw worthwhile data points from a poll with a relatively small number of participants that changes quite significantly every year.

Dance of the Vampire (1967) is a good memory too : usued to watch it @ School when we had one or 2 movies a year.

And there's Sharon Tate ....

I'll admit I might be seen as hypocritical on this, because on one hand I'm outraged that Polanski received César awards last year and was even invited in the first place, but it doesn't affect how I vote for his films in these things at all. The reason for that is that these lists, to me, are not about rewarding anything, just gathering our collective tastes, and I do still love some of his films. If they had more real-worl consequences, I might be more militant about excluding his films from my lists, but that's not really the case.

This is my current score list for Hou:

1 - Cute Girls (1980) - 5,5
2 - The Green, Green Grass of Home (1983) - 8
3 - The Boys From Fengkuei (1983) - 8,5
4 - The Sandwich Man (1983) - 7,5
5 - A Summer at Grandpa's (1984) - 8
6 - A Time to Live, A Time to Die (1985) - 8
7 - Dust in the Wind (1986) - 7,5
8 - Daughter of the Nile (1987) - 8
9 - A City of Sadness (1989) - 8
10 - The Puppetmaster (1993) - 8
11 - Good Men, Good Women (1995) - 7
12 - Goodbye South, Goodbye (1996) - 7,5
13 - Flowers of Shanghai (1998) - 7,5
14 - Millennium Mambo (2001) - 8
15 - Café Lumière (2003) - 8
16 - Three Times (2005) - 7,5
17 - Voyage du Ballon Rouge (2007) - 8
18 - The Assassin (2015) - 9

I think I might have lost some enthusiasm for the Assassin over time, so if I rate it down to a 8,5 I can pick the Boys from Fengkuei as my favorite of him
Very much a Felini inspired picture that one too ;)
