What's the difference for you?
I understand "essential" as key films which may have been historically important or where one can find objective artistic traits not to be missed, works a cinephile has to have seen - but that are not automatically the films you personally cherish the most.
Every science-fiction fan has to have seen 2001 at one point of his life, it's an essential genre film, but does it have to be your own favorite? - That's the difference for me.

Considering that we mostly discuss other branches of the cinematic spectrum in the forum, I noticed that he has listed many of the exact titles I would emphasize, too. Robust taste there. ;)

Nice explanation of the difference between “favorite,” and perhaps “most important. The same films would more or less appear on a list of the top 500 for me, but in a different order, and your mention of 2001 is a good example, as I consider it one of the most essential, but not among my most cherished.

I chose favorites from all periods in my life, though they are weighted more towards the present.
As you might be able to tell,I am attracted to films with a distinctive cinematic-soundscape, and have tried to tab favorite filmmakers in the process, though not more than twice.

.. nope.
People here are experts on list making and calculation, I guess everything tagged as a TV series will be plain filtered out.

The Rules are practicly engraved in Stone ;)

I took the time to tag my 250 favorites Movies on iCM. Maybe i have better understand the spirit of that List than last year.

It's weird to realize most of my favorite are old favorites, mostly from my young adult period.
It's also takes time to "build" an favorite in my case, rewatch often helps getting more into an movie.

Joining iCP have certainly help my collecting habits... but i realize my current rate of film watching is maybe too high to actualy realy enjoying and get into future favorites.

The good stuff theses days is to re-watch Classics with my daughter to make her film education... but teens are teens and thoses moments are rare ;(

Anyway here's the list, nothing too surprising for our french readers i guess. In fact the only real discover i made joining iCM is Tarkovsky and in a way being forced to watch more Bergman.

It's too early to rank .... And i'm not sure i wanna.

Playing with the historic spreadsheet to verify the way i understand it and ....

A few IMDB tagged "TVSeries" are on the file and result thread... Twin Peaks 2017 for ex is 18 eps ... ??

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4835&start=80#p631557

The only "TV Series" below 2000 ranking on the final list are

http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/twin+peaks-2017/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/die+ ... gend-1992/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/riget/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/kino+no+tabi/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/twin+peaks/

Edit : Joachimt did catch the Twin Peaks "error" last year... If it was allowed last year ... Seems it will be this year what do you all think ?

I wouldn't worry too much about that :) because it's just the 10th edition, the 10-year anniversary (of the poll, not the forum) will be next year :ph43r:

Do we have a less active userbase nowadays ?
