I nominated Parallel I-IV (Harun Farocki, 2014) which isn't on imdb but I noticed that you included two other non-imdb films with letterboxd links in the description, so here it is...

First six nominations with a small blurb about each. Only nominating films on zero Official Lists as usual. This batch are also all under 400 checks.

Dr. Jack (1922) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013075/ - Harold Lloyd silent comedy
The Snorkel (1958) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052207 - very intense film noir thriller
Buchanan Rides Alone (1958) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051437/ - unconventional western
My Dog Tulip (2009) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0843358/ - quirky animated comedy/drama
Bad Genius (2017) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6788942/ - Thai thriller about organised exam cheating
The Green Fog (2017) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6736812/ - Guy Maddin remake of/tribute to 'Vertigo'

An eclectic selection perhaps; these are simply some of the best stuff that I watched over the past 12 months.

Thanks, in that case I'll swap it out with South (Chantal Akerman, 1999).

For some reason I've never actually tossed out a DTC nominations list, but here's what I came up with off the top of my head in a few minutes:
Córki dancingu a.k.a. The Lure (2015) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5278832/
Ghostwatch (1992) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200659/
The Small World of Sammy Lee (1963) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052205/
Leák a.k.a. Mystics In Bali (1981) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097942/
Haze (2005) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491399/
Made In Abyss (2017) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7222086/
Mo a.k.a. The Boxer's Omen (1983) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085951/
The Stunt Man (1980) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081568/
Silver Lode (1954) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047495/
Clue (1985) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088930/
El día de la bestia a.k.a. Day of the Beast (1995) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112922/
Christ In Concrete a.k.a. Give Us This Day (1949) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041416/

Man this gets harder every year - and I probably say that every year. I'd like to, as sol has done, highlight the stuff I've seen from the last year, but that's impossible this time if I want to focus on what I think are the very best. It seems like almost everything great I saw within the last year is ineligible (1,2,8 are the exceptions); I guess my tastes remain more canonical than I'd like to admit. At least I did manage to avoid re-nominating any of my failures - I think these are all first picks for me. The field continues to winnow... Oh well, not something that's worth worrying about -

1. Oblomok imperii / Fragment of an Empire (Fridrikh Ermler, 1929)
2. Tsuma yo bara no yô ni / Wife! Be Like a Rose! (Mikio Naruse, 1935)
3. The Four Feathers (Zoltan Korda, 1939)
4. Krakatit (Otakar Vávra, 1948)
5. Ye me gui zhi lian / The Wild, Wild Rose (Tian-lin Wang, 1960)
6. Le signe du lion / The Sign of Leo (Éric Rohmer, 1962)
7. Khesht va Ayeneh / Brick and Mirror (Ebrahim Golestan, 1965)
8. Windy Day (Faith & John Hubley, 1968)
9. Thriller (Sally Potter, 1979)
10. Ángel de fuego / Angel of Fire (Dana Rotberg, 1992)
11. The Ground (Robert Beavers, 2001)
12. Wonderstruck (Todd Haynes, 2017)

For challenge participants, 8 and 10 are directed by women, 3 is from the UK, and 9 is directed by a woman and from the UK (and is a short, as are 8 and 11)

Just the urls, ma'am

(D:) If I didn't limit myself to only unofficial films watched in the past 12 months, I would have way too much to choose from and narrow down. I'm a bit surprised that you didn't see more over the past year that meet such criteria, but then again, I'm probably watching more films than you on average... so maybe it's just inevitable that I would find more unofficial favourites than you over a twelve month period.

Well I have other rules for myself too, just as you limit yourself to unofficial checks (something I've considered but feel is too much work given all my other parameters & viewing habits). First, I choose only films I rated 10 - I'm guessing that's not a rule for you as you are much more stingy in ratings; I do occasionally pick a 9 but it probably averages less than one per DTC. Also for the last several years I've focused on Iran and female directors and have typically tried to have multiple films in each category - this year I managed only one Iranian film as most of my favorites that are eligible have been tried before and failed, and I didn't see anything new in the past year that was up to snuff. And yeah, in the past year in particular I did see less new stuff overall than in most years over the past decade, and I did more re-watching and watched more TV. And just in the past 2 weeks I've really upped my reading so next year's crop could well be even harder to harvest.

Those rules are not bad at all. Anything to avoid the same titles over and over again.

My picks are always (since the second or third edition) from non-represented filmmakers regardless of its official status. This is even tougher because the movies are underrated/underseen by the doublers, not the critics.

I like your rule and I think one year I tried specifically to do that though I don't know that I succeeded. A lot of my favorites (Raoul Ruiz standing out in particular) have managed to break into the pantheon in the last few years though with the 1000-2000 and 21st century expansions, so that'd be a further headache and would probably conflict too much with my other self-imposed rules :o Looks at a glance like about half of my choices this year fit the bill though.

The challenge for next month is shaping up nicely for me!
89 titles selected to see at the moment
https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/dtc2 ... ew/beavis/

India and Africa are getting preference
I have 3 Madoka Magika movies on bluray, but I guess only the series counts for this ballot? That is a shame :)
Anything else that I need to give priority, or skip (for those who know/care about my tastes)?

Hi Angel! One of my favourite times of the year. Thank you so much for overseeing it all!

As I have tended to do over the last couple of years, I've opted once again to err towards picking from favourites that I've seen over the last year or so - i.e. since DtC 2020. One abiding and enduring favourite does make it in (Joe May's 'Heimkehr' - which I'm overjoyed to ''adopt''), but the rest are newly cherished.

My 12:

Heimkehr / Homecoming (1928, Joe May)
From the Four Corners (1942, Anthony Havelock-Allan)
Vagabunda / Tramp (1950, Miguel Morayta)
Stendalì: Suonano ancora / Stendalì: Still They Toll (1960, Cecilia Mangini)
Tifusari / ‎Typhoid Sufferers (1963, Vatroslav Mimica)
Igra Ljubavi / The Game of Love (1967, Vladimir Momčilović) *no IMDb entry*
Osenniye svadby / Autumn Weddings (1967, Boris Yashin)
Monangambée / White Death (1968, Sarah Maldoror)
Requiem for Sally (1979, Terence McDonald) *no IMDb entry*
Mascara (1983, Henri Pachard, Roberta Findlay)
Ijaazat / Permission (1987, Gulzar)
Eye of God (1997, Tim Blake Nelson)

A few links (I'm afraid the Mangini films are only available for a limited period; until the end of today, the 19th):

Hi Carmel! Thanks. Sadly, only the one (Northern) Irish film among my picks. I had actually considered going with an all-Irish dozen to celebrate (heehee), but found it impossible to overlook those I listed.

It's nice to see you posting. I was terribly sad to read of your friend's death and your post detailing your experiences was beautifully poignant. Hope things are looking up for you.

And, thanks so much for nominating a Królikiewicz. I'll eagerly check it out next month!
That's all, folks!

That's intriguing, a Spanish language film that I have not seen, a Russian one without available subtitles (it will need a Eysymont treatment), some sex and more!

Happy to bring some intrigue, haahaa. The Yashin is a beauty and was one of the first films on my submission. I hope my nominating it might shine a bit more of a light on it. It getting the ''Eysymont treatment'' in due course would be nice, indeed. I've been rather startled (but pleasantly startled) at how many people on here have watched the 1944 film and have come back with a positive reaction.
That's all, folks!

Copy uploaded to KG, pot for transcription started (I hope to see doublers contributing). If Russian subtitles were available, I would convince my pal tequila to make a Spanish translation. With Russian and Spanish subs available I'm sure an English translation will soon come out. It is the same procedure followed for Once There Was a Girl, I hope it will have the same success.

Oh, thank you for uploading the film to KG. I don't know about the availability of Russian subs but I appreciate you giving the film a push and a nudge towards the light. I hope others with subbing skills might be interested enough to latch on to this one. Very kind and thoughtful of you to get the ball rolling, so to speak.
