Meehh. Not a fan of TV series with several hours as a pool winner.

But what a weird, different exercise this was. Thank you very much for the work, Tim, and the many nominations from our dear users! :worship:

That James Burke series certainly looks fascinating but, speaking just for myself, it's a bit strange to see a mini-series coming out on top in a film poll.

So happy to see the exquisite 'Je t'attendrai' so high in the list. One of my very favourite films in the entire list, for sure!
That's all, folks!

and

249 / 4851

Didn't expect to be so high on either number (but I'm sure there are others much higher than me).

Coryn wrote: February 5th, 2021, 3:26 pm That's my guess as well. That's why we need to rely on people only posting their favorites and not look at their list size. Hence why I only posted 4 movies for this challenge.

sol wrote: February 5th, 2021, 2:26 pm I don't think so. I mean, the whole point of having a half-life system is that if you submit a very long list, the titles towards the end only get a few points compared to the titles towards top... right? :ermm:
If the half-life works like I think it works you might be right about that particular example.
What remains is that your #5 8/10 rated film is still racking up more points that my #15 10/10 rated film when our lists have equal lengths :)
It is not just when your list has equal length.

Unless I have misunderstood the tallying system, your 10th has the same number of points regardless of wether you submitted a list of 10 or 1,000.

Weird how there are any misunderstandings about this.

I hardly have the time (or interest) for watching many obscure films, others here have. I struggled to make a Top 20, maybe a Top 10 would have been wiser, and paid attention to not nominating a film which was "good enough". "Do I want to see this make the Top 100?" My votes for the <400 poll often were too inclusive and pushed titles into the list which weren't that necessary into official status. I decided to vote stricter in this case since a vote weighs tons in such an obscure set of nominees.

I have no doubt that other of you cine-extremists can nominate 100 titles which are great :)

Lol I haven't followed the whole presentation of results and had the impression to know exactly 2 of the 250 titles. I missed many pages apparently, as it's 6/250. Whoop!
29/4851, including my own 22 votes probably? Wow, I'm a total failure. <_<

Probably the best results I've ever hard (% favorites-wise). Also because they're "cool" favorites, not the Mulholland Drives and whatnot.
Very disappointing winner though. A docu-series :shifty:

Coincidence? My #1 film (because I didn't really know better) was 19 (2000) and it ranks #257 - missed the list by not much more than 1 point! :woot: Too bad you only ranked it 60ish or so, with a #50-spotting, together, we could have DOMINATED the list, Ondy!

Though #60 on my list, it's still in the exceptional (from great - exceptional - perfect) category for me.

Hehe, I noticed that your personal cult favorite Honey Pu Pu made it into the list (have you celebrated yet?). Now if only I knew a way to see it and push it into the Top 100 like we did with Umfeld .. :whistling:

Quite a few that I'll probably add to my endless to-see list; already looked up a couple but can't find copies (not surprisingly). Anyway, hope to remember to go through this list really thoroughly soon, lots of interesting stuff here. Guy Gilles is the man I guess. Wonder how much this project might affect the next 500<400?

Soo, more than half of our #1 films didn't get another vote! Alright. :D

Noo!, Lonewolf, even closer to the final list than me! Long Gone, the self-proclaimed "hobo doc", looks cool. Added to my doc watchlist. Could make future <400 material if you promote it?

For the Top250
Crazy facts: 11 of our Top 250 are on 2 official lists, 47 more are on one official list. Most of the films with 2 off-lists made it into the Top 100 (2 of them rank #1 and #2 even),

2 titles have only 2 checks.

24 of the Top 250 entries are documentaries (according to ICM), which makes about the same 10% ratio like in our <400 poll, a number which stays true for the 500<400 and 1000<400 as well. It's almost like a law of nature.
25 of the Top 250 are tagged as short films.
Only 1 of the Top 250 are kinky adult films - but a whole 33% of our Top 3. :shifty:

I'm especially surprised by the bad performance of Aa bakudan, as it always gets a decent amount of support in DtC (but, of course, that's not just this forum).

Some more wild stats:
Our #1 is the only film to get 7 votes, and not surprisingly, basically every film which got 4 to 6 votes got very good ranks, almost all of them in the Top 100.

BabaKiueria (1986) is the biggest outlier with 6 votes and only a #224; interestingly, it was also favorited by exactly 6 users on ICM. Roger was among them, but didn't vote for it in the poll. :whistling: Mistake or just different thresholds for "fav on ICM / vote in poll"? :)

The Leaden Echo and the Golden Echo at #701 (!) and Sia; le rêve du python at #367 are the only titles with 4 votes which didn't make it into the Top 250. Votes were pretty low, too.

168 films got 3 votes or more.
704 films got 2 votes or more.
About 4000 films got 1 single vote. :ph43r:

I thought of including 'BabaKiueria' (I didn't have to check the spelling, haha) as I do have it favourited and thought it was an incisive and witty reversal. It's a lower favourite for me (if that makes any sense). I set the ratings import to mark IMDb 8/10s as favourites on ICM. For this poll I narrowed things down and overlooked all my 8s.

Rather glad to see it make the list though!
That's all, folks!

Seen 6/250
Voted for all 6, which I all found below average, still I guess it's kind of nice they are in the list :P :teehee:
I would have voted for all 6, but somehow Back to Back, Face to Face slipped under my radar.

I addressed that a few posts above, LonggoneWolf. Or am I on your ignore list? :'(
There has to be another voter, because otherwise a singular #1 vote ranks from 440-480 or so. I already deleted the Excel, so I can't check, sorry :teehee:

I've seen 31/250 (including a short that I only watched after it came up in the countdown) and 387/4851. Seven of my own votes were in the top 250, but my abundance of vintage British picks got no love except "Death in the Seine" and "The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer."

A list of 4851 seems so enormous, especially in a poll with only 71 voters. But I guess this shows how little overlap there was between the ballots.

Based on casually skimming the ballots, I was guessing either "Repeated Absences" or "Connections" would win.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

Thank You, Tim.. Never knew this list would be this much fun to follow. Lot of great films to watch.

My would be #1 Der Fall Gleiwitz is languishing at the very bottom.. :( How much more it would have gained if its #1 in my hypothetically submitted 100 film list?

Not enough to get into the Top 250, if that's what you're asking.

That's my hometown. Always crazy seeing this since I have such a vivid memory of the 90s version of the tracks.
