Happy to see a good amount of love in this thread for my dear friend Cannibal Holocaust. I understand why it's among the most polarizing and divisive films ever made, but while I disagree with the animal murders and watch the version on the Blu-Ray that skips them (Deodato's preferred cut), I still think it's absolutely brilliant. I have a tradition of watching it on Halloween, though I missed it in 2018 and 2019 due to lame personal shit. Finally got to do it again last year and that was a treat, especially on a 4K TV. I also have a pretty sweet shirt with the original banned poster art.

I haven't been in public in the past couple months since I got it, but I intend to wear it if I'm going somewhere that I wouldn't expect young kids to be. There are boobs (with nipples covered by the victim's hair) and gore on it, so I'm considerate enough to not be strolling into Chuck E. Cheese in it. (Or in any other outfit, for that matter.) It's perfect for visits to friends; also, I wear my cool shirts in the house every day because I don't have anywhere to go.

Off topic:
When I first started teaching when I was 22 years old, I had a T-shirt with the cover of Cruelty and the Beast by Cradle of Filth. I wore it a few times at work, but then the principal came to ask me politely not to wear it again.

HMs
THE SHADOW BOX (TV); LOVE IN A COLD CLIMATE (TV); BIG BLONDE (TV); AIRPLANE: and THE NINTH CONFIGURATION

PREDICTIONS?
I'm guessing The Scorsese (which I l loathed)  B) .... Kubrick usually does well... Hopper's hihilistic teen odyssey was much liked at time... as was the Malle...AIRPLANE is a crowdpleaser... the DePalma is one of his most widely admired ....the Lynch I guess....Not sure Big prestige drama of the year ORDINARY PEOPLE has worn well in public esteem.... not seen it for 40 years

EDIT Amazed at the love for CRUISING - but kind of so much I want to give it another go. Glad to see my favourite has some admirers... as a cinematic achievement I'd rate it alongside DONT LOOK NOW .. but subject matter much less accessible.....

OBSCURITIES?
SWEET WILLIAM a gentle Brit romcom with Sam Waterston a bucolic Romeo - here with the ever fragrant Jenny Agutter
Image
JANE AUSTEN IN MANHATTAN - rather arch but well played (Robert Powell, Anne Baxter, Sean Young) comedy about atristic rivalry to stage an Austen play,,, early Merchant Ivory
Robert Powell turns up in HARLEQUIN - an offbeat and creepyAussie tale about a politician who gets mixed up in psychic events.
HEALTH is minor Altman - an easy target for sure - but great cast having low key fun is worth a peek.

I was going to make a joke that I've only seen the sequel that Dusan Makavejev made about his son, but I just looked at IMDb and found that The Coca-Cola Man isn't even listed, so I don't even know what this movie is.

insooooooooooooooooooooooomniussssssss :D

downloaded 'Lacrima ...' yesterday, gonna see it tomorrow

'Dialogue...' would be my #1

NO '...solution' ??

'Les bons...' in my 1979 list, now 1980

saw 'Out of...' Today... good but wouldn't enter in my top20

5/20 seen or 6/21 if you count '... departed'

I also have an 1980 short listed ... IMDB says 2005 now

take out '... Terra' and you have a good list, but it would be different if you mentioned '... States' or 'Bad...'

:woot:

One per director is my solution.
Yeah, I've seen it listed as 1979. Don't think we've done that year yet though, and as of now, it wouldn't be accepted for that year.
Hey, hey, my, my!
Well, I haven't seen the coke film.

I edited my top 20. Took the bottom two films off the list and made Heaven's Gate and Raging Bull #1 and 2, respectively.

Hi sol,
Was trying to see what "Success" was on your list, and I think you put "Changeling" twice in the imdb links.

Thanks! Fixed. This is the film that I meant. Great movie from the director Winter Kills with a Larry Cohen script!
