Out of curiosity, I downloaded all the lists and ran them through the Kemeny-Young program I use for TSZDT. They're all weighted equally obviously but any partially ranked list is counted as unranked and I used a min vote of 3. This is what it gave me as the top 250:

I'd argue Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master, Inherent Vice and Phantom Thread) and Arnaud Desplechin (Jimmy P, My Golden Days and Ismael's Ghosts), and if you were to extend 100 to top 280 I'd add Jia and Shultz with 3 films. Once I get around to watching one or two more of their films, Sciamma, Dolan, Rohrwacher, Filho and James Gray might have 3 films as well.

I also forgot to give a shout out to J.C. Chandor, who debuted in the first half of the decade with 3 fantastic and underrated films in short succession: Margin Call, All is Lost, and A Most Violent Year.

A lie ain't a 'side of the story.' It's just a lie.

I like films by all this directors (though I haven;t seen anything by Dolan yet), and had a half dozen of their films in my top 100.

Highest dislike: #13 Inception
Position of my #1: #135 Kreuzweg (up 9 from last year)
Highest film I didn't vote for: #3 The Tree of Life
Highest ranked film on my list that didn't make it: #2 Respire
Right now seen: 122/120.

At least I saw something, but perhaps i'd hoped for a bit more. I think I saw in the meantime:

Likes - green
Dislikes - red

25. Oslo, 31. august
27. The Lighthouse
53. Ah-ga-ssi [The Handmaiden]
55. Blade Runner 2049
61. Portrait de la jeune fille en feu [Portrait of a Young Lady on Fire]
81. The Florida Project
90. Kaguyahime no monogatari [The Tale of the Princess Kaguya]
114. Joker
133. Kaze tachinu [The Wind Rises]
157. Tomboy
166. 1917
172. Midsommar

173. Lady Bird
188. Climax
237. Teströl és lélekröl [On Body and Soul]
249. Baby Driver

I must admit i haven't finished The Handmaiden because I completely lost the plot developments (just like about any Chan-Wook Park movie, i just can't follow it, and that's been the case with all five movies so far i've watched... i'll someday try again, but i have some difficulties with how he present his films storywise). And Oslo 31. august, i might not have been in the mood for it (although i wonder if i ever will be). The Florida Project ... i've not seen under the best circumstances. And the only two left than are two movies that are not bad, but perhaps a bit underwhelming. The Wind Rises is kind of an introverted movie which is good, but just not the same tier as the others, but i liked it and it is very well made. And Lady Bird was also pretty good, just not really a fan of the period drama ethic where not really much happens, which has been the case with a lot of "Academy Awards movies" lately, and which is starting to bother me a bit, as they're carving out a niche that is not really my cup of tea and no-one else is following, but aside of that it's still a good movie, just again compared to the very high standard of the other movies in green, a bit underwhelming.

Also four rewatches:
58. Nightcrawler - upgrade from 9/10 to 10/10
88. What We Do In The Shadows - downgrade from 9/10 to 8/10
109. Only God Forgives - stayed at 7/10
159. The VVitch: A New-England Folktale - upgrade from 7/10 to 10/10

-> 1 new dislike and 12 new favs (4 of them being 10/10 -> and actually 6 new tens if you include rewatches... This might be recency bias, but that would completely shake up my top 10 of the decade).

Last year it was:
1. Kreuzweg
2. Respire
3. Assassination Nation
4. The Neon Demon
5. Victoria
6. Utoya 22. juli
7. Spring Breakers
8. Home
9. Manchester by the Sea
10. Gisaengchung [Parasite]

During the meantime, i rewatched Assassination Nation and Home, they both dropped (very) slightly in my appreciation for them, and together with my new entries and the two awesome rewatches i didn't expect completely, it is enough to make it drop out of the top 10, although they're not far behind. The top 10 is shaken completely with 6 new entries

1. The Neon Demon
2. On Body and Soul
3. Kreuzweg
4. Respire
5. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya [to be fair, top 5 is interchangeable actually, and it was always sort of was]
6. Climax
7. Spring Breakers
8. Midsommar
9. The VVitch: A New-England Folktale
10. Nightcrawler (although again sort of interchangeable with other contendors like Victoria or Parasite).

Still a ton of movies in the top 250 that I still want and have to watch! :)

Sorry for double post, but it surprises me Hereditary isn't on the list... I've seen it in the meantime. Perhaps if i did it before we finished this list, i would have made it, but it's really a surprise Hereditary didn't make it, even more so that Midsommar which is a more recent movie - did make the cut.

EDIT: It's on 258... It certainly would have made the list, if i saw it a year earlier, but fine.

Two of my very favorites (l)
#8 and #34 in my 2010s list I did a year ago, but opposed to, say, Interstellar or Prisoners I have very personal feelings about them

Next time for this poll then!

I'm definitely looking forward to the next version of this list when we hit it in the decade polls. There are sooooo many movies that are 2019-on-IMDB that are STILL coming out even now into mid-2021.

And then I'm definitely looking forward to the new current decade poll, I hope that starts in 2022 but I'd understand if we waited til 2023. The yearly 2010s poll always helped me to discover new films.

I must say that I agree that Whiplash and Nightcrawler are superior to Interstellar and Prisoners, just for the impact alone. Both movies (Whiplash, Nightcrawler) are among the universal highlights of the 2010's, and there's no director's name on top of it that makes the movie overrated. Interstellar without Nolan or Prisoners without Villeneuve as director, even if were to be the same movie - would have liked a bit less. They're also by no means the best or one of the better movies of those directors. Villeneuve made better movies, so did Nolan. What I however do like is that the setting of Interstellar, that people don't do it often or are afraid to do it, so the bar honestly isn't that high and it seems like every movie set in outer space or interstellar space has to be the new 2001 which I think is pointless, instead of making your own movie that has a more original approach. They always have to have a philosophical message attached to them, which I really don't like as they do it over & over & over again.

It seems like 2001 paralyzes every "realistic" movie set in space, made after 2001.

I'm looking forward to the next poll, i hope i'll be able to improve my own list, see a lot as well as watch more from this list itself, and there are certainly a few at the very least i want to watch.

2022 seems a bit early, especially considering a lot of movies were impacted by covid-19 with fewer releases & productions in 2020 and perhaps also 2021. So far, personally i even barely have movies that came out in the 2020's that i even am interested in. I think I saw 6 movies, but I barely have movies on my watchlist from the 2020's.

Understandable, I totally can get that. However, I currently have 135 checks from 2020 and 2021 so I hope you can understand why I’d be eager :whistling:
