Any chance of posting your list soon? We can always revise. I'm always interested in digging a little deeper for titles.

lineuphere, Hello!

I'm always the last hipster showing off (or at least I used to be) just for the show. In the end I'll end up with the same titles, except one or two.

* Actually I've only seen the TV-series version of Scener ur ett äktenskap, which is from '73, the '74 version is the much shorter cinema version, but I've chosen to give a vote anyways. The TV-series version would have been #1 though.

I really need to see the Bunuel stuff from the 70s. He's one of my fav directors and that's a void in his filmography for me. Got those on the radar for the director challenge next month...

So it does. This is a rare, but not isolated example, of a film that has different years on ICM and IMDB, so it did show up on my 1974 list on ICM. However, if it's ruled ineligible I'll remove it.

In this case, it looks like IMDb is correct. The San Sebastian Film Festival has the film listed on its website among its 1973 showings (under the title "Fake / Question Mark"). https://www.sansebastianfestival.com/19 ... culas/8/es

When our predecessor poll on the IMDb Classic Film Board polled 1973 in 2014, "F for Fake" placed 18th.

Fair enough. I've edited my post to remove F for Fake. Someone should probably edit ICM for consistency, and I have no idea how that process works.

I will close the poll sometime during mid-week, probably Wed. So, you may add a ballot or revise existing one until then.

I've spent most of the last week watching 1974 films - it had my lowest number of views of the decade, and in particular there were a ton of TSP entries I hadn't yet seen, more than for any other year. Still plenty of stuff I want to see and could see but I don't know that I want to continue with this focus now, so here goes. Ended up being quite an incredible week film-wise and the year is clearly as competitive as any in the 70s, and that's saying a lot.

1. Edvard Munch (Peter Watkins)
2. Céline et Julie vont en bateau / Celine and Julie Go Boating (Jacques Rivette)
3. Asrar ganj dareheye jenni / The Ghost Valley's Treasure Mysteries (Ebrahim Golestan)
4. Les ordres (Michel Brault)
5. Lancelot du lac (Robert Bresson)
6. The Owl Who Married a Goose: An Eskimo Legend (Caroline Leaf)
7. Entezar / Waiting (Amir Naderi)
8. Tabiate bijan / Still Life (Sohrab Shaheed Saless)
9. Zardoz (John Boorman)
10. A Woman Under the Influence (John Cassavetes)
11. Le fantôme de la liberté / The Phantom of Liberty (Luis Buñuel)
12. The Conversation (Francis Ford Coppola)
13. Casual Relations (Mark Rappaport)

14. Jukti, Takko Aar Gappo / Reason, Debate and a Story (Ritwik Ghatak)
15. Tinimbang ka ngunit kulang / Weighed But Found Wanting (Lino Brocka)
16. Un homme qui dort / The Man Who Sleeps (Bernard Queysanne)
17. Blazing Saddles (Mel Brooks)
18. Montreal Main (Frank Vitale)
19. Path of Cessation (Robert E. Fulton)
20. Claudine (John Berry)
Spoiler
Lots of films it hurts to leave off, including Angst essen Seele auf; The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz; Au bout du fil; Chinatown; Den-en ni shisu; Fuji; Je tu il elle; Jeder für sich und Gott gegen alle; Martha; Mossafer; Parade; Saz Dahani; The Yakuza; Yek Etefagh sadeh; Young Frankenstein. Many of these really need and deserve another viewing and some haven't been seen since the 90s.

A particularly great year for the cinemas of Canada, Iran and (West) Germany, and I still have a great amount left to see. Most wanted would have to be Michael Snow's Rameau's Nephew but I doubt I will make time for it before the end of the poll. I don't see America dominating this decade as so many cinephiles do, but there are certainly many solid films from my country here as well, though I wonder if I will find the greatness that so many people see in The Godfather: Part II when I eventually do watch it again.

Thank you, lynchs. Yes, I watched a few of these just recently and was very happy to be able to add them to my list. I did actually decide to highlight the more eclectic and obscure here and leave out several very high profile films that I haven't seen for a long time. I'm sure that most of them will perform well without my support!

I loved looking through your list as well. Several in there that are definitely of interest to me!

That's all, folks!

Thanks for the tip as to the Naderi, MDF! I don't think I'll watch it just now but I'll save it up for later. Perhaps for the 1970s challenge...
