Rules in this round:
- You must watch both films of a match before you vote.
- To vote, rank the films from most favorite to least favorite. (note: you're ranking the individual films, not the countries)
- The winner of each match will proceed to the next round.
- The winners of the match is the movie with the most #1-votes.
- If there's a tie the match will have a 3 day extension. If there's still a tie then, the next voter decides by sudden death.
- Don't vote in this thread. Each match will have its own thread according to the schedule.

Seen 9 entries this round, looking forward to the rest :)

Gl to me having to fight a 700 checked movie on seven lists, including DtC and TSPDT 1001-2000.

Fierce-looking round! I've only seen 2 (Senegal & India), but I've heard of most of the rest.

I'm looking forward to this round.

Manoel dans l'île des merveilles, the three episode tv-series is not too long? not sure the feature version cut down from it can be found anyway... :)
I have been delaying to see this one for ages, because the quality of what can be found on the net seems horrible to me. And at the time when Ruiz restaurations are slowly being prepared I'd hate dipping into this on an nth degree vhs-dupe... might have to the first WC-round in a long time I'll be forced to skip... unless, fingers crossed, you'll point us in the direction of something good!!

I've only seen 2 as well (Tajikistan and Senegal), lots of interesting pick, can't wait to get started!

It's less than 3 hours in total, so it's eligible. I watched it recently and the quality wasn't bad.

the newer web-sourced (I think? from an archive of some sort maybe?) copy of Manoel is a lot better than the old tv rip. it's not great resolution, 512,384, but it looks fine full-screen. no hard-coded subtitles either.

I have found something websourced, but without screencaps, so I will check it out (total size seems small for three hours though... not hopefull... yet :))

btw I also looked up my scores for the 10 movies I've seen from the selection, and it is surprisingly nice I must say!! one 8.5, three 8 and the other six 7.5
If the other movies are just as good for me this looks to be a vEry solid round (so I am really getting my fingers crossed for Ruiz now... still thinking "why?!?"... :))

Well it's not exactly Poland's Shawshank. "Difficult" films are a roll of the dice. I only really nominated it to motivate myself to rewatch it. I think I gave it a 5/10 the first go-round. Purely a selfish tactic, compared to other rounds where I was trying to promote atypical underground treasures.

I too have already seen several of the films this round, but looking forward to some rewatches. I've been meaning to rewatch Hourglass Sanitorium for a while now anyway.

I've seen five of the nominations, most of which are very good so this looks like it could be a closely fought round. There are a few I've been meaning to watch for a while and some that I haven't heard of so really looking forward to working my way through these selections.

yup, Imdb lists a longer time, but that is I think for a 4 episode version that is as unavailable as the theatrical cut
I've done my searching, found something at least decent, so decided to plunge for it afterall, and since I've already seen three Ruiz movies this month and spend a lot of time on it now, might aswell jump in straigth away tonight :)

still with something episodic, with different versions, it being meant for children, nothing restored available now, but Ruiz restaurations rumored to being in the works for a few(?) of his movies... this better be something very special, grrr ;) (love Ruiz, so I'm sure I'll at least like this... no worries)

Russia brought out the big guns, so you'd better enjoy it - Portugal needs every vote it can get

What graph would you prefer for the head-to-head-matches?

I'll just put a score of 1 for the movie that gets the vote from a voters. The first graph shows the total number of votes. The second graph show the average vote (the average of all the 1's and 0's).

I think I prefer the first as well. The problem with the second is that the changes will get smaller and smaller after a while. That was the case with the graphs in round 1 as well, but that made more sense with four movies and the scoring system.

It would be possible to make a similar graph for 4-way matches, if you use a point system (#1 = 3 points, #2 = 2 points, #3 = 1 point, #4 = 0 points). I'm not sure if it would look better than the average rank graph, but maybe it's worth a try.

Sure. Maybe in season 5.

Fair, and I’m not complaining btw. Just pointing out that Mexico have an uphill battle to fight. Same with Greece I suppose.

Competition is heating up… all films but three are on official lists. Good to see there are plenty from the 21st century instead of the usual 50s-60s though.

Seen 6/15, two are favorites.

Have fun everyone !

Spain picked just the movie for me to vote against, not a fan of its competition but it sure got lucky.

Georgia might become the Egypt of this season.

currently working towards a vegan/low waste world + thru such film lists (besides TV): ANARCHISTS, 2010s bests, RW Fassbinder, Yasujiro Ozu, Eric Rohmer, Visual Effects nominees, kid-related stuff, great animes (mini-serie or feature), very 80s movies, 17+ sci-fi lists on watchlist, ENVIRO, remarkable Silent Films and Pre-Code (exploring 1925 atm) and every shorts and docu list I'm aware of and

It's a bit risky since I know the hunting scenes will put some people off, but the film isn't really in favour of it and I think it ends up working thematically.

Great list of films. Almost tempting me to come out of WC hiatus with films like Hourgalss, November, Corn island. And, Visaaranai would be my choice had India entered QF last season so eager to see how its going to do.

As I wasn't involved in previous seasons I am not sure what this refers to. I'm guessing something along the lines of a surprise high finish?

Yes. Egypt finished 4th. What's more, out of 48 countries.
