iCM Forum's Favorite South Asian Movies
:circle: Results :circle:
Image

These are our favorite movies from South Asia. Eligible countries were Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Half-life is 20. Because there would be too many just 2 votes movies in it otherwise, I decide to make it just a top 75.

Please feel free to discuss the list, the films, and any entries that you're happy or unhappy about, whether you submitted a list or not, but please try to be courteous when doing so. When quoting a post with images it's best if you remove the image unless it's directly relevant to what you're posting.

When did you download the lists? Because I added Sholay to mine on Friday, so I would have been a third voter on that one.

Also I'm pretty sure I had Wisdom Tree on the list from the very start.

Yes, they did. I forgot to check if I had all lists downloaded correctly. Will redo this when I have time. I hope to have time tomorrow. But probably won't get around to it till Wednesday. People can still add list or change their list, till I redownload them. Just let me know here or in the nominations topic if you did so.

Sorry.

No worries Lonewolf. Does this mean we might get a Top 100 after all? I was surprised that it would only be 50 films.

A top 100 would be cool. Films that only appear on one ballot would, I think, be overwhelmingly likely to add to the list if participants ranked them very highly.
That's all, folks!

+2

That said, I wouldn't wanted a list that contained a lot of films on just a single ballot, but if it takes two or three single-ballot films in order for us to get a decent length (top 100) list for this poll, I would totally support including them.

No, one votes won't be in it. Cause what is high for someone who f.e. submitted a list of 5 titles only? Very high ranked films might be of some value if everyone submitted very long list and is very knowledgeable about the subject. With this polll with the many very short lists with lots of people who only skimmed the top of the ice of the top of the iceberg of South Asian cinema, they aren't imho.

That's fair. Sounds like we could at least get a Top 75, though, and still not encounter 1-vote films, based on your original post. We've had a few forum lists of that length.

Yeah. I can see that point of view as to the depth of individual lists and kind of agree, Lonewolf.

I was kind of in IMDb Classic Film Board-mindset, where in the year-by-year polls the top film in a five-strong list got 5 points and the top film in a twenty-strong list received the full complement of 20 points. I'd been somewhat overlooking the scoring here on ICM Forum. Much as I'd love my #1 to make the list, I can see that under this scoring system all 1-vote films would get the same number of points and thereby all make the list. It would run the risk of being a bit of a free-for-all and possibly dilute the end list.

I think, on reflection, that you've probably made the right decision.

Would like to see as full a list as possible, though! Don't know whether Fergenaprido's suggestion of 75 might be a possibility?

Since I missed all iCM lists, which by my quick count are 9 votes, there is a high possibility the list will be larger than a top 50. A top 75 seems likely, Hopefully even a top 100. Don’t know for sure yet, cause haven’t recalculated yet.

Nice. From the few titles that had been provisionally released yesterday, this seems to be shaping up as a fascinating list.

Looking forward to the resumption!

Yes! I hoped something like this would happen, I watched and even added 4 titles to my list after the deadline. Now, all that that's left for my is to watch the official Indian movies on Netflix, starting with Lagaan now.

If popularity wasn't such a big factor in listmaking like this, I quess the two would be more 'realistically' mixed throughout the entire list
