I don't want to make a set rule about not changing your vote, but I just want to trust people to be honest. I mean, if we want to disallow changing votes, we should also disallow opening the thread before making your vote. Late voters can do strategic votes without changing their vote. I just hope they don't.

The only way to avoid strategic votes is to have silent votes: everyone submits their vote to me and the result will be posted at once after the deadline. But where's the fun in that?
Oh i think I was lost in translation. I meant vote again because Greece was losing to the film that I rated lower... lol Sorry for the misunderstanding. Just a bit of bad humour tehe

And I was wondering if you were going to improve Japanese movie's position since you mentioned #4 stays the same
Yknow, despite voting for Brazil.

No I thought of most frequent outcome, and that is being quarantined in a hospital or such.

1. Korczak - I have a tendency to struggle with Holocaust movies not because of the subject matter but more because they normally heavy-handily point out the atrocities when to be honest most of us are aware in some degree of what happened. While the story could be good sometimes I am just taken out of the movie. This was not the case here as while some atrocities were shown, and to good effect, they took a back seat to the story. Yes this was a sad time in our worlds history and a lot can be said in terms of powerful movies and this one seemed to have got it right for me. 7/10
As to the Director Andrzej Wajda this is my second movie of his I've seen (the other was Siberian Lady Macbeth which I watched back in December), with them being made 28 years apart and I can say I am looking forward to watching more of his work for so far his style seems to agree with me.

2. Tsigoineruwaizen - One thing that I have learnt from watching Japanese things, they have some weird imaginations and this movie is no different. Mixing this weirdness with a more American/European Arthouse feel which I don't normally gel well with actually seemed to work reasonably well for me. While I was left scratching my head a lot (which was the purpose i suppose) I did actually enjoy this. I will see though, I have never seen a movie have so many Love Triangles. 6/10

3. I Fotografia - It took a while for this movie to hit its stride but once Ilias finally made it to France things started to pick up. The lies were a major part of the movie yet I don't think enough of the effect of these lies was shown (and could have been used for a bit of hilarity maybe?). Also the ending just didn't satisfy me and could have been handled differently (with a similar outcome). 5/10

4. A Alma do Osso - When you sit there watching an old man wash his tin cans and moving water around between them for 10 minutes you realise that this is going to be a very boring documentary. I think it would have been helped if we were given any indication of what was happening/information about Domingos, but unfortunately we don't get any dialouge until over half an hour in. Yeah a big miss from me. 2/10

Why would top countries hire such rookie managers? Are they throwing everyone a challenge like come try and beat us when we're not even trying. :ermm:

Probably because they don't watch many films in the first place, so they pick easy countries everybody are connoisseurs of.

I don't think they pay their manager enough. He hasn't visited his prospective opponents' games either. Only 2 checks for season, own pick included.

The Foto-Kor-Alma-Zig combination has been named 3 times now. So that should put Japan out of contention. As the biggest fan I will now have a personal vendetta against their incompetent manager :P

1. Poland
2. Japan
3. Greece
4. Brazil

Decided to watch the films in order from least-checked to most-checked. Could this be the most "recent" round of 4? All films were from 1980 or later.

A Alma do Osso - 3.2 - The cure for my insomnia. Like someone else said, this film didn't make me care about the subject at all. Thankfully, it was short.

I fotografia - 6.0 - Also had a similar reaction as Cocoa; it's a decent enough film, but it I got annoyed by it, especially by the two male leads. I get the point about how a lie can spiral out of control, but this bordered on the absurd.

Korczak - 7.8 - A tough watch for me, because I knew the inevitable would happen, and that just made me sad; I teared up near the start, not because of anything in particular on screen, but just because of the general atmosphere of the atrocities that took place in Poland (and elsewhere). This film felt like a more-depressing precursor to Schindler's List (sidenote: turns out the boy who played Shlomo also acted in Schindler's List; I need to rewatch that film). It was slow at times, but I like how it gave the impression of the horrors and injustices taking place without necessarily showing them front and centre on screen; it's almost like Wajda was shielding his audience similar to how Korzcak was shielding his children. Pan Doktor was truly a remarkable person, and I'm glad to have been made aware of his story, however tragic it is.

Tsingoineruwaizen - 7.2 - This was a confusing film. I liked the aesthetic of it, and it was interesting to see a film set in the early 1900s Japan (usually it's either a contemporary setting or a medieval/Shogun-era setting). It definitely had a feel of an 80s film, and it reminded me of Chariots of Fire for some reason (in look, not in content). That being said, I have no idea what was going on, why certain characters were included (the three beggars, for example), or what the outcome of the film was. As disconnected as the plot was, I found myself still watching, which is a very rare thing for me. I didn't really like it, but I can definitely see why it caused such a ruckus when it came out; it may be a strange pick for Japan in retrospect, but I don't think it was a bad choice.

02. Poland - 8/10
03. Japan - 8/10
04. Greece - 5/10

If Japan loses, Poland may become the #1 all time WC country
Wouldn't Spain still be ahead of Poland?
No. Japan is still first with 17 wins while Poland has 16 (however they advanced), while Spain has 13 which means they need to top the group to equalize. But even then they'd be placed lower because Spain lost 4 times while Poland lost only twice.

Is Gordon Gekko going to fight for his country? What's his voting record?
He hasn't voted yet in the whole tournament.
