3,19/23 - Avalon (pretty much the same average as on IMDb)
4,00/03 - Colonel Panics (must have a very low score too, because mine is a full 6 & PdA is also a fan I think)
3,30/11 - The Whispering Star (would've expected this to do better)
3,33/03 - Blessing Bell ( )
3,56/09 - Kyoshin (expected this to do better)
2,25/08 - Lee's Adventure (no surprises there, should be decades before people are ready to appreciate this kind of thing)
4,00/06 - Ruined Heart (awww, never gotten this close)
2,89/09 - Shiki-Jitsu (must be drunk voting, this one is amazing on every level)
5,50/02 - Soredake (at least one other person watched it!)
3,67/03 - The Limit of Sleeping Beauty (didn't expect this to do well, so no surprises there)
2,80/05 - Umfeld (would've expected this higher, seeing how so many here like Brakhage)
2,29/07 - Xiao shi da kan (I'll try this one again in 40 years time, when people have caught up)

Please note that there was a mistake, a write-in that I had not counted:

Threnody is now a holdover (4,60-5)

There are no Brakhage films on the DtC list. A lot of people on this forum don't like his films.

'Vlyublyonnye' and 'XIX saukunis qartuli qronika' both do well enough to be hold-overs. Very nice! Both have certainly piqued my interest. I hadn't actually heard of the Uzbek film before. I'll do my best to watch them before too long.

Thanks for the beautifully presented results and all the hard work, Angel. It was so much fun to keep up to speed with the unveilings!

Oh, good to see 'Menq' being promoted. I remember neglecting to fill in my rating for this a couple of years ago and it missing out by a fraction in the end. I felt bad for overlooking Gershwin's nomination at the time.

But a lot of them do, and the ones that don't would probably not watch a 55 minute one.

I'm pleased to say that Vlyublyonnye was the final write-in I submitted this morning after watching it last night, and I'm glad that voting for it pushed it over the threshold to become a holdover. It's my consolation for none of my nominations making it. :P

If you end up liking Vlyublyonnye (The Lovers), I recommend his earlier film Nezhnost (Tenderness), which I enjoyed even more. Confusingly, sometimes Vlyublyonnye is also called "Tenderness" in some places.

Oh yeah, 'Nezhnost' has been on my radar for ages. It looks beautiful. I hadn't realised they were from the same director.

Wonderful to hear that you are a fan of these and thanks for watching it and rating it. I guess hold-over status makes it much more likely that I'll watch it before next year's DtC!

Thanks as usual Angel! Looks like I'm losing my bronze, which I just attained in the last month - but only by a few films. I think by next year, assuming this is still on, I"ll be ahead of where I was this year in the game, maybe manage to hit 550 seen vs my 500 this year.

As to successes, I'm happy to have managed one, though most of my others did poorly enough that I won't be thinking of bothering with them again until conditions are more favorable. Congrats especially to the 10 individuals who managed 2 or 3 promotions in this very, very competitive environment. Wow. I'm pretty sure I've never hit 3 before; something to shoot for next year.

Holy Shit, this is the holy grail of listophilia. Mubi Forum secretly 20+ years ahead of global cinephilia. Maybe my movie-watching goal of the year should just be to finish this list.

Soldaten og Jenny was interesting to me in that it started out as sort of a La ronde-like play on how every life touches others, the influence that we all have on each other, skipping from little story to the next connected little story, but then finally settling on one of them - I'm not sure I've seen this particular narrative technique play out in quite the same way, and it was elegantly done. I didn't love it as much as many did I guess but it was fascinating and I love films of this type; I really should try to find or construct a.... LIST! Of course.

I see some of my darlings there, most of them adopted by the Doubling... with some ill-fated exceptions (e.g. The Dupes, now stigmatized here).

Thank you Angel, as a participant of this exercise since its inception, i know from the beginning the love, hard work, commitment and cinephilia you have constructed and championed all these years which results into this list. Apologies if i will sound a little bit bitter through the next lines....

...the beauty of DtC is that if offers the unique possibility of having two lists (three if we count the intermediary, Holdovers list); one of them, this one, the Official one (in iCM-talking terms), is one I don't care for, and I've said it before - I don't care which films go into or drop off the list, including mine (of course I'm happy when someone loves a film I nominated, but that's it), and I don't look into this list any other time of the year (unless there's some Challenge along the way); the list I do care for though is the Nominations list, the Unofficial one, one I've learned to cherish and appreciate all these years - by those 12 films someone nominates, supposedly beloved and deeply personal, I’ve learned to see the world through the eyes of the Other, through the eyes of my fellow participants and nominators, and I’ve been enriched - as man, as artist, as film lover - beyond words. I'm very grateful to all, particularly those who have been regulars since the beginning, who have nominated films for DtC.

That said, I will contradict myself, because this year I was tired and slightly angry, and, for the first time, I wanted to champion two films into the Official list - the first, was Cavalcanti's 'En rade' the only film I gave a 6 this year, its modernity and willingness to experiment with the medium putting into shame most contemporary (or any) cinema I’ve seen recently (particularly in the juxtaposition of physical spaces/landscapes of the mind-body). The other film I hoped it would (re-)enter the list is a bit more complicated...

...as I’ve said DtC is above all an act of cinephilia, an act of love for film, and although throwing a title that is on the Official list into a re-voting process is something that is allowed in the rules, courteous cinephiliac manners along these years dictate that if it's a very recent addition, it should stay a little while at least, maybe more people can catch that particular title and make their own judgments. The film in question of course was Halsted's 'LA Plays Itself', the only film I gave a 5 this year. I really didn’t like what the nominator did, first because I'm pretty sure he hasn't seen the film, thus putting into check what should be an act of love into one of anti-cinephillia, and worse, with a patronizing, superior stance, as per this own thread (
At least we got rid of it. I took one for the team
). Who are this "we"?; I knew exactly which film I was voting for, - I, and several others -, I didn’t mix it with Andersen's film, so please don't include me on that "we" or that "team", I demand respect for my vote, last year, and this year.

Wound up going 0/12. Some of my noms were at least in the ballpark, such as Hausu and voyna i mir, but nothing quite got over the hump.

This is still my least seen list, by a wide margin (51 seen, 1049 unseen). I'm still early enough in my film-watching history that I need to see more of the canon before I can start doubling it. But it's always fascinating to follow along and see where the hardcore cinephiles are directing their love

Thanks for running as always Angel! Great new format for results, and lots of interesting dialogue coming out of the thread this year.

Edit: Just noticed this heartbreaker:

Out of curiosity, I have plotted the ratings of all the nominations vs the year and the number of votes. I don't expect to gain much insight from it but it is somehow amusing.

thanks angel! look what i found in the wayback machine. should make an icm list if no one else has..

https://mubi.com/lists/the-mubi-forum-u ... st-top-100
Here's the full version of the list (click read more): https://mubi.com/lists/the-mubi-forum-u ... -poll-2012
Interesting list, but I don't fully understand how it was constructed. Something about voting films off, but it was more than one person voting for each film (so different than the game currently happening on the forum with the AFI list). Where can a fuller explanation be found?

I gave it a 6 if I remember correctly. I'm surprised it dropped off.
