I doubt I'll be able to mess around with this anymore. Less than two dozen films added since last year, sadly. Small shake-up in the top part of the list; if I ever get around to doing a comprehensive re-watch of a lot of these it will change more - don't understand how to re-work my list heavily year-to-year like some people do.

Anyway, top 101 ranked, the rest chronological

I just do it once every year, around New Year. Just take all your votes above a certain cut-off and order them again?
Now, rewatching 800+ films, that's something else :D

Yeah, see, no. I never, ever re-rate anything without re-watching it, and I'm loathe to do much re-ordering without re-watching either. So essentially I will plop a few films into the top 100 that I saw for the first time (three this year), and might bump up a film or two I re-watched, but that's it. And that's why the bulk of my list is unranked - I can't possibly rank two films against each other that seem to be roughly equal in memory, but that I last saw in 1992 or 2004. Some folks either have better memories than I do, do more re-watching, or just have another mental process that I don't understand at all. And of course some people haven't been keeping lists that long so it's much less of a memory challenge.

Or some people can live with the fact that is not an exact science :)

There are always time-sensitive factors, even when you first made your original list. Sometimes you have just seen a film by a somewhat forgotten director and because you liked it so much, his other films get better in your mind too. Sometimes you're kinda done with a genre and those films will get a small hit. That's why I think reordering is interesting, even if you can only go on memory. People's taste changes over time, so you can at least reflect that somewhat.

I don't re-rate either, I keep that for rewatches (which I schedule once every two weeks, so ~25 per year). Most of the time my rating stays the same, maybe 2 or 3 films a year jump up/down, which will be reflected when I redo the list (together with fresh entries). I've been doing this for 10 years now I think, and I'm quite happy with the process. Everybody's different of course, so to each his own :)

This. My list is representative of how I felt at the moment I made it, nothing more, and that's fine.

So with all this covid stuff I'm going to extend the deadline to Wed Mar 25th. I know I'll have time Thursday to do all the results and should be able to start posting on Friday.
I'll update the first post tomorrow.

I used to find it quite easy, and would just base it off how I felt about the films at the moment I was making the list, but depression really messed with my memory and I just have no connection to - or memory of - so many of my favourite films now. I need to rewatch everything but that’s probably never going to happen so I’m not very happy with my list anymore.

Let's get Wanda on there!

Any recommendations on anything similar? I just love these kind of movies with non-actors and glimpses of real life.

I was trying to fix the url of this, so it links to wasabi's favorites and to the favorites of the person who clicks on it. However, it seems wasabi hasn't got any favorites:

Never been able to stomach the 10-year old Islay malts myself - I've had Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Caol Ila - too harsh for me. Lagavullin 16 and an older Ardbeg (which I only had once, just too expensive), now those are the shit. But I'm mostly a bourbon & rye drinker regardless, much better selection available at reasonable prices here for one thing.

Lagavullin 16 and Caol Ila 12 are other favorites of mine, and Ardbeg works too, but yeah, pretty pricy. Haven't tried the Laphroaig quarter cask yet. Something to look forward to.
