These are our Top 100 Favorite Underrated Movies. This means movies we feel don't get the appreciation by the "general" public we feel they deserve.

By it's nature it's going to be a controversial list with many entries people won't agree on, but please feel free to discuss the list, the films, and any entries that you're happy or unhappy about, whether you submitted a list or not, but please try to be courteous when doing so. When quoting a post with images it's best if you remove the image unless it's directly relevant to what you're posting.

:ICM: Top 100
:ICM: Complete List

A nuance about the complete list: more than any list this been a real "Ain't Nobody's Blues But My Own" one; out of the total of 3055 movies 2386 ones only got 1 vote. And only 244 movies received 3 votes or more.

Starting with an overrated film :D, but glad to see Haunter is there though.

Props on the presentation, Lonewolf. Having # of Official Lists and IMDb rating is interesting information for these results.

Seen 4 of the 5 listed so far. With both The Limits of Control and Haunter, I have seen enough praise for them that neither struck me as strictly under-rated. I also happen to think that the Natali film is his weakest... in an admittedly very strong oeuvre. Trash Humpers though I hated. I actually agree about the Ghostbusters remake being undervalued, and I almost included the film myself, but I tried to limit my list to films that I rated 7/10 or higher.

I like Haunter a lot but it didn’t have a big enough difference in ratings to make my list. Only one I’ve seen so far..

Among fans of somewhat atypical horror cinema, sure. But that 5.9 on IMDb is quite telling.
Then again, horror fans are at the same time some of the most enthusiastic and dismissive fans around.

I gave it a 3.5/5, which wasn't high enough to qualify for my list, but is still high enough for me to be glad to see it showing up here.

Strange that I didn't vote for Hanna, cause I did give it a 8.0 with which it should have made my list.

Very nice to see revolver there. Personal rating is 4.5/5, though I didn't vote for it since I went for a bigger margin.

Didn't expect to see Memoirs of an Invisible Man! Awesome. The Stepford Wives seems like a pretty well-liked film to end up on list like this though (I like it just a little more than its IMDb rating).

I thought the same too. Just checked and I rated it 7.8, and I only looked at films that I rated at least 1.2 higher than the imdb average.

Still, I'm glad to see it make the list.

Looking forward to the rest of the results, and hope to pick up a few recommendations along the way.

I've only seen two of the first 10 - Limits of Control and Stepford Wives, both of which I voted for; but the strange thing for me is that none of the other eight films look even remotely interesting - well, maybe Hanna. Maybe. In fact most of them look downright horrible. And I'm pretty sure I know what the top 2 films will be in the end, with #1 being a film I outright hated and #2 something I though quite mediocre verging on bad. So to sum up, my reaction to this list will be similar to Onderhond's reaction to most lists...

I can see a pattern. Almost all of this films tend to come up with very substantial psychological sci-fi or sci-fi borderlining topics, what is kind of dimmissed by the crowd, because it needs patentiece to dig deeper on this to catch the whole value.

This forum really works in many casses like the true subconcious of the whole big Rick. :teehee:
I am really looking forward to see the rest.

Edit: Posted this before the last 5 entries.(not knowing about the Hitchcock) That pattern keeps rolling.

I'm not too big on Hitchcock in general, but Family Plot is very fun film with an excellent Barbara Harris performance and divine John Williams score.

This is going to be a very eclectic list.

There's a clear recency bias. Only three movies so far from the 1900s.

I'm very amused to see Gamer included. Here's an actual quote from a fellow student in a film studies class I once took: "I see Gamer as a sort of Lacanian Robocop." I think that's the only thing I remember from that class. I can't say I like Gamer, but Michael C. Hall was enjoyable in it.

I didn't participate in this poll, the "underrated" concept never quite sat right with me, but these results sure are interestingly weird enough so far, I'll be keeping tabs, heh.

Camera work in Gamer was golden. It's a shame the duo went more commercial after that.

I liked Family Plot, but at the moment it probably wouldn't even be in my top 20 Hitchcock, and I didn't vote for it. Probably ought to see it again though. It's the only one of that group I've seen, and the rest, though Rubber is potentially interesting, don't excite me. Par for the course so far.
