That's a recent change. Doing some quick research, it looks like it had a qualifying run in December 1955 after some previews in November, before opening wide in February 1956. It should definitely be a 1955 film, though, since it was nominated for Oscars from that year, and wouldn't have qualified if it hadn't been screened. Plus, there are some film reviews from December that indicate it was playing in at least some theatres before the end of the year. I've just submitted an update to imdb. We'll see if it gets accepted.

That's a recent change.
It was listed as 1956 when I watched the film for the 1950s Challenge in June this year. I too was surprised given the Academy Award qualification.
