iCM Forum's Favourite Movies of the 1930s
Nominations topic
Image

5 years ago for the first time we chose our favorite movies of the 1930s, now it's time to do so again.

The deadline is 24 May 2019
  • Movies must be from 1930 - 1939
  • Shorts are allowed. (I don't think we need the tv-/mini-series rule for this decade ;) )
  • IMDb-lists or iCM-lists are accepted. (If you can't make one of those, ask another user to help you out.)
  • Lists can be any length.
  • Each nominee can only be named once (of course)
  • Your list may be ranked, unranked, or partially-ranked. In a partially-ranked list, the top X films are ranked and everything after that point is unranked. When not specified I will consider a list as ranked.
Some help:
1930s movies on IMDb ordered by your ranking

For consistency list length will be 250 and half-life 50.
Please check if your list is stated, ordered and linked correctly. And is set to public. For iCM lists you can also set it to "Friends" and befriend me.

I won’t be able to compile an icm list for a while so I’ll just leave this letterboxd list here in the meantime.

This gives me an error, probably the link to editing the list instead of the list.

Updated the OP. So far 15 lists.

Partie de campagne just changed from 1936 to 1946, so now it's ineligible. :(

Since it was made in 1936, it’s still eligible to me. This is a case in which there is a good argument for an exception to the rule.

Partie de campagne is one my favourites but i'll vote for it when there's a 40s poll. Would it not be better to stick to the release date and not when it was made as there a lot of instances when films are shot one decade and released another. Partie might have been shot on 1936 but it wasn't in the form we know it now until 1945 (then released the following year).

It would be easier to follow this, were it not that those years keep changing. It was #36 in he previous 30's poll and it didn't appear in the 40's poll. If we did this poll last month instead of this month, it would still be in the list. It's all very arbitrary, but that's often the case.

I haven't got a strong opinion. I'll follow the host.

It depends on why it was postponed

To mistenkelige personer (1950) wasn't released before in 2007, but it is the very same exact movie as before. They didn't release it to protect people from a real crime case at which it is based. I purposely don't add a release date on it on imdb, so it wont be messed up, as in all national film history source it is still listed as a 1950 film, even in sources from before 2007.

But if we want a principle, just go with the imdb (), they seldom change back. And if the movie actually changed inbetween years it's quite another movie.

As i'm the one who got it changed on IMDb, if we had done this last month then i'd have changed it then. It's bugged me for years the incorrect release date for the film but for whatever reason didn't think i could get it changed. I'm not for including something incorrectly because it was done so before.

If the host thinks it's ok to include it then i'm fine with that but i'll still only vote for it on the 40s list.

It depends on why it was postponed

(Serge Toubiana)

Like I said to me it’s still eligible. I’m totally okay with people voting for it and won’t delete it from the results list when it shows up.
