I present to you our 150 favorite Fantasy movies.
Arguably the genre which requires the biggest suspension of disbelief of all genres. It's also a genre that's hard to define and opinions on which movies belong to the genre differ vastly, so not everyone will be 100% content with all entries belonging in the results list. Please feel free to discuss the list, the films, and any entries that you're happy or unhappy about, whether you submitted a list or not, but please try to be courteous when doing so. When quoting a post with images it's best if you remove the image unless it's directly relevant to what you're posting

Between #100-150 there are about 20 movies with just 3 votes, therefor being (probably) the most debatable entries. But because some of us use these list to get recoms, I decided to go for a top 150 instead of a top 100.

Do you need the screenshots-spreadsheet or do you have everything already?

Gonna be interesting how this list turns out in the end. My first choice barely made the list, but at least it did.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

Yay. My submitting of a ballot made a difference! I probably should have had Lost Horizon in my list too, but I gave up on trying to make a list too early on.

I'm pretty sure that's a screenshot from (a shitty screener copy of) Hugo. It's definitely not a screenshot from that film.

I have a backlog of voting on almost everything I watched in 2018, so I see I missed #132 The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. It would probably end up on #20-ish so 80-ish more points?

We managed to get 8 Up movies in the documentary list.

Can we get 8 Harry Potter in this?
124 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'm not counting the 2 new spin-offs. Don't think they'll show up anyway.

The most perfectly executed heroic fantasy movie (such a hard genre to get right too) and it doesnt even crack the top100 here?!?!
So we seem to have mostly Disney and Warner blockbusters to look forward to then? Hope not.

Well 5 of them got votes from me. As long as the other two do as well without my help as the one above than I don't see why not.

I forgot to vote for Hausu, probably because IMDb didn't tag it as fantasy. :(

I really didn't feel comfortable voting in this poll, as I had too hard a time excluding/including films, and finding the balance of what I consider "fantasy", especially as so many films competing for the top spots were primarily surrealistic exercises, or largely set in the real world. Enjoying the results a lot however!

I really didn't feel comfortable voting in this poll, as I had too hard a time excluding/including films, and finding the balance of what I consider "fantasy", especially as so many films competing for the top spots were primarily surrealistic exercises, or largely set in the real world. Enjoying the results a lot however!
Same on both accounts. I only ended up submitting a 20 film ballot since there were simply too many films that were either borderline fantasy or far more horror or sci-fi than fantasy per se. But yes; I am enjoying seeing what others voted for too.

Gah! Usually I'm on point with tagging my films for these polls, but somehow I missed the Grinch as a fantasy. Definitely would have been on my list. Rectifying now.

Me too. Paprika f.e. is a movie I doubted for some time to in- or exclude in my list. In the end decided it is more scifi than fantasy.

Ditto for me as well. Quite a few films already that I would never ever consider as fantasy - Dead Man, really? When you add in all the kinds of elements that anybody would consider fantasy, anything dreamlike, anything surreal, anything magical realist, it just gets to be too much. I'd have probably just done films that fit the definition as I understood it 40 years ago when getting into Tolkien and Robert E. Howard, which would have resulted in a short, boring list that would've added nothing to the results. But I do enjoy seeing how other people voted and am certainly curious as to how some of these films fit the definition in others' minds... Dead Man, really?
