iCM Forum's Favourite Iberian Movies; Nominations

iCM Forum's Favourite Iberian Movies
Nominations topic
Image

In this poll we are going to decide which our favorite movies from the Iberian Peninsula are.

The deadline is 30 November 2018
  • Shorts, mini-series and TV-episodes from anthology series where the episodes are unrelated, are allowed. Tv-series aren't allowed.*
*Imdb will be leading in this, but if you have good arguments exceptions to the rule can be made in consultation
  • Imdb-lists or iCM-lists are accepted. (If you can't make one of those, ask another user to help you out.)
  • Lists can be any length.
  • Each nominee can only be named once (of course)
  • Your list may be ranked, unranked, or partially-ranked. In a partially-ranked list, the top X films are ranked and everything after that point is unranked. When not specified I will consider a list as ranked.
Some help:
Movies from Portugal you rated on IMDb
Movies from Spain you rated on IMDb
Movies from Gibraltar you rated on IMDb
Movies from Andorra you rated on IMDb
Like always this does include co-productions, so you have to filter those out according to your own judgement. Of course you can always ask others here for their opinions.

Participants (X):Show
Please check if your list is stated, ordered and linked correctly. And is set to public. For iCM lists you can also set it to "Friends" and befriend me.

with 45 entries just shy of a top50... I wanted to include only the very best + a few interesting honorable mentions…
ratio Portugal:Spain is almost 50/50, but top3 are all Portugese, a favorite movie country for mine!

Un chien andalou is a French movie.
The Others don't feel Spanish to me as well.

On one of the Spanish country lists. I’m not the one to argue against 350 journalists, film critics, historians, professors, intellectuals and festival managers...

The Others won an Goya, directed by a Spaniard and I’m sure they spendt some pesetas in the making of the film as well.

Yeah but I don't think we can come up with a decent list for Portugal and Spain on their own, so I grouped them together with these giants of cinema.

https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/best ... onderhond/ (Ranked, but that goes without saying)

I called it the Best of Spain because that's what it is, really. Haven't seen many Portugese films and the few I did see didn't really push me to see more.
I extended the list a little beyond my usual Top 400 filter, still all 4* ratings for me though.
Some visual inspiration: https://www.onderhond.com/movies?filter=spain

The one I'd really like to promote: Skins [Pieles]
Because these lists could do with more comedies. It's also an official (and stable) check, because it's part of the 366 Certified Weird list. A nomination it truly deserves.

I also noticed Balada Triste de Trompeta is not in any official list yet. Implausible.

I voted for that one as well (but in the unranked part of my list). Weird stuff.

Really fun list! And I loved seeing Diamantino in there, where were you able to watch it? I've been dying to see it...

Though I've seen a lot of very good ones, a great number of them were made by Carlos Saura and Pedro Almodovar, and as I don't want to load the list with their films I will choose only my favorites from them, and shorten my submission list overall. Only 8's and above.
In scanning the list imdb offers me, I also notice that quite a few I wouldn't really call Iberian films, so I will eliminate those, as well.

I saw Diamantino at the Philadelphia Film Festival, here's what I wrote a couple weeks ago "Possibly the surrealist political satire of the year, a bizarre and hilarious re-imagining of the political thriller with its DNA crossed with dark fairy tales, old movie serials, and a gender-and-sexuality-defying love story--all with a holy innocent soccer celebrity at its center (and puppies, giant fluffy puppies). Considering it relates to the times we're living in and the rise of extreme right-wing politics, it all makes as much (non)sense at it needs to."
