iCM Forum's Highest Rated Movies (2018-)

#1

Post by themagician » September 14th, 2018, 8:00 pm

For those not in the know, the previous lists are very old and have many inactive users, so we decided to start from zero.

iCM Forum's Highest Rated Movies are lists calculated from our IMDb ratings. To participate, simply post a link to your IMDb ratings either in this thread, or PM it to me. Make sure your ratings are public. The lists are re-generated either weekly or every two weeks so keep them public. If you make your ratings private or don't wish to participate anymore, let me know!

The results will be available here: https://www.themagician.ovh/highestrated/

Before you put the first new edition on your site, would it be fun to have a countdown? Maybe set a deadline for this, then do a deadline, then publish and after that update every week (or two).

We can do that. Maybe starting next weekend? Also, only top 1000 features? Or perhaps a list that has features, shorts, docus, etc. in one list?

Will there be a combined list on your site? If not, wouldn't be logical to have a combined countdown. I would prefer a top 1000 features then.

Maybe next weekend is a bit quick. I'd like to have lists of most of the regulars before we do a countdown. Of course, we shouldn't give them too much time, because it's not like you need to make a list for this.

How are you going to download the ratings if they can't be exported? By loading every page? Or is there an easier way?

I hope you're not planning to take down the old list, since I still sometimes look at it.

I have a script that downloads user ratings from the actual ratings page. It takes a while but it works. I'll upload the whole script I use for this to Github once I know everything works 100%.

I'll move the old list to this new host I have later so I can delete my account on that other host.

Also a bit behind (but only two months or so), because I somehow suddenly adopted a different rating system that I still need to translate to IMDB.

Thank you. I second joachimt's suggestion, please do a countdown!

I can't attest to the accuracy of my ratings (I don't always remember re-rate films that fall or climb in my esteem with subsequent viewings) but might as well join the crowd:

As a side note, I wonder if the user ID corresponds to how long I've been an IMDb user. Am I user # 56,181? (I've been a member since Sep, 1999.)

I still need to add 1,000 or so ratings to catch up (probably many are TV), but my faves should be in there. Thanks for doing this.
