If any screenshots need replacing, let me know. Maybe in some cases there is a better copy out there than the one I used. In other cases I had a hard time finding screenshots, had to rely on google often.

Using a halflife of 15:
- The highest movie with 1 vote is at #117.
- The highest movie with 2 votes is at #68. Actually, #68 to #116 all have 2 votes.
I posted this in the nominations-thread, but somehow something went wrong and I don't understand what I did wrong. These numbers are wrong. In my spreadsheet there are a few movies with 1 vote in the top 100. So I just recalculated the results and got the same. Ah well, the 1-vote-titles are at least titles that are loved by their voters, because they are #1 or #2 votes.

So I'll continue how I started.

Makes sense. This also means that Drum definitely made the list. :D Really curious to see how this all pans out. No doubt this will be an invaluable list to refer to next time there is an African Official Challenge.

Fixed! I confess that iCM is not always my first priority.

I'm really glad Adanggaman made it, thanks to my measly vote. I would have used this picture, though:

Same for me in this part of the list. I've seen 38 of the top 50 and only 7 of the numbers 51 to 100, so this really is the obscure part of the list.

That was a fun discovery last month during the African challenge. Part of the reason the check counts are so low is that it wasn't even on IMDB - Simba63 got it added there, which enabled it to be imported to ICM last month. Available on Kanopy. :woot:

It‘s great people are exploring recent afric cinema, I myself have not seen anything from Africa that was from this century I think. There was an Africa special at an experimental film festival I attended this May which had much contemporary stuff. But it was mostly video art, and idk how other cineasts feel about this, but I’m not into that. So I watched something old.

My own list is about 40% 20th century movies and 60% 21st century movies. The ratio would be even worse if I hadn't watched some 20th century movies in the past few weeks just for this poll. I make a point of seeing new African movies at my local international film festival, but I hadn't explored much African cinema beyond what was available on DVD. To be fair, Africa got kind of a late start (with the exception of Egypt) compared to some other continents when it comes to cinema.

A good chunk of the African films I had seen before June were from the 80s-90s, films that I saw in the cinema in Chicago between roughly 1988-2000, so it's nice for me to see films from this century on the list because it's the area I most need to look into, and any help in prioritizing is nice, given how few worthwhile lists of this stuff there are.

Seen 10 so far, 7 of which were on my list.

Lovely to see the films from Rouch, Bahloul and Sahraoui popping up. Terrific choice in screencaps for the latter two in particular! Both images really capture and convey the essence and feel of the films. I really like this image from 'La pyramide humaine':

Best to have the luminous and captivating Hafsia Herzi in shot when it comes to 'Le sac de farine'. A performance of great beauty and yearning.

Is that an actual screenshot, Roger? Looks like a pretty extreme aspect ratio.
