Yeah me too, but when I glance at the films that come afterwards I think I understand - those are either 'pure comedy' ones or classics, 'The Truman Show' is different with its dramatic moments and philosophical overtones. But with relatively low voters a lot of strange things can happen - 'American Psycho' with only 3 voters at 173 and 'Fight Club' with only 2 voters at 239 were surprising to me. Both films aren't listed as comedies on IMDb, so that might explain it.

I'm enjoying this list as a random set of very varied comedies with funny gifs. The order makes no sense to me, some of the selections make no sense to me, and it wouldn't at all match my list had I submitted one, but it's still fun to open the thread and think WTF?

We should do a poll afterwards to see how people ranked their list. If it's by how funny a film is vs how good it is. My list was just my favourite films that are comedies, but I wanna see if I'm in the minority for doing that.

I'm enjoying this list as a random set of very varied comedies with funny gifs. The order makes no sense to me, some of the selections make no sense to me, and it wouldn't at all match my list had I submitted one, but it's still fun to open the thread and think WTF?
That's a healthy attitude. I've been biting my tongue not to express shock and the occasional outrage, but the above post is the closest I've allowed myself to come because I didn't submit a list.

My list is ranked by how much the films make me laugh.

I'm expecting Monkeybone to enter the top 10.

Come to think of it, where's the Brendan Fraser comedies?!

My father didn’t have the skill of a professional cameraman. The result? Avant-garde cinema.

My guess is "Ow, my balls!" will be #1.
I actually watched Dumb and Dumber for the first time about a month ago, coincidentally. I didn't hate it; it wasn't painful to watch or anything. But I'd say that for me me there is brilliant dumb humor and there is truly dumb dumb humor, and this film was the latter.

My list is a combination of both.

My list is only pure comedies. So mostly short films, since that's a basically one set up with a punchline

To me it seems only logical to take in account how funny a movie is when ranking a comedy list. Just like with a horror list one takes in account how scary the movie is, with thrillers how suspenseful, with action the action and so on. Otherwise you could just filter the favorite list on genre.

Mine was built around old friends, faves that I've seen many times, including family favorites. My go-to movies when I'm needing a good laugh. More than half of them I've seen at least twice.

I mostly put films that I think are really good that are comedy style and some daft ones. The problem with, made me laugh, is many crap or average films made me laugh a lot, especially when I was young. I can't always remember how much I laughed at a film too.

Well, they still have to be good. I only voted for 10/10 and 9/10 in this list.

Guilty pleasures are another list.

One would think that movies that make you laugh are good.

This is a fallacy. Like for example, I once saw a film and was so profoundly touched by it that I sobbed the whole way through
while also giving me a lot to think about. Afterwards I further analyzed the film and found deeper meanings that eventually
would change my whole life for the better. But I didn't let my emotions and my intellect be fooled by this extreme personal reaction. It was
actually a poor-to-mediocre film. It clearly didn't match the standards of a masterfully directed or acted film, it's on no official lists here, it is
barely fresh on the Tomatometer and it won absolutely no prestigious movie awards. You see, mathiasa, you must not let yourself get tricked
by your own reactions and thoughts, they can be dangerously misleading.
