I had troubles with my internet connection, but I'm back at it. I'm at 580 of 700. If everything goes smoothly, I'll finish in less than an hour.

You volunteered too early and I forgot. Are you interested in finding improvement screenshots and/or animated gifs for your favorite films? There are some screenshots from last year that weren't great and could be improved (but I don't remember which ones).

If it's stuff I voted for, then sure why not. Although fuck that if I have to see for myself which screenshots need improvement.

mjf314 on Sep 22 2015, 09:33:42 PM wrote:I originally chose 400 by looking at the check distribution of the iCM Forum's 1001 list. It seemed like a highly-regarded film with >400 checks had a decent chance of making that list, whereas it was difficult for a film with <400 checks to make the list. Changing it to <300 would leave too many good films trapped in the middle, not able to be on either list.
I found the post where I was trying to decide what the cutoff should be:
http://www.icmforum.comsingle/?p=8284841&t=7272415

Apparently 300 was the original plan, and then I changed my mind after looking at the stats.
On the ICM Board's 1001 Favorite Movies list...
1 movie has less than 200 checks.
5 movies have less than 300 checks.
20 movies have less than 400 checks.
38 movies have less than 500 checks.
52 movies have less than 600 checks.
Here are the current stats if anyone wants to compare:

1 movie has less than 100 checks.
7 movies have less than 200 checks.
9 movies have less than 300 checks.
16 movies have less than 400 checks.
29 movies have less than 500 checks.
45 movies have less than 600 checks.

The numbers for <100, <200, and <300 have increased, but the numbers for <400, <500, and <600 have decreased.

This shows that the list is 'working', nice!
400 still seems like a very good cutoff value at the moment
Personally i like to look at the <100 titles, but if you set the bar that low i guess you'd end up with a lot of good titles still getting lost, somewhere in the middle.

I hope we can start asap :)
It's morning on my side of the world, so don't you go to sleep now! :)

Some WC films made big jumps. There are even some WC losers that made big jumps. Does anyone want to try to predict the top 5 (or top 10) highest ranked WC films?

Muddy River will certainly go to number one
I hope Reconstruction and Sult will do well
And i give a good chance to When the tenth Month Comes.
Didn't follow up on the other rounds i'm afraid...

Edit.

1 muddy river
2 shura
3 pociag
4 sult
5 when the tenth month comes

Not surprised about this. WC means lots of new viewers for those movies, which means higher chance of new votes. Just a few new lovers is enough for a jump up.

Can anyone guess which non-WC film made the biggest jump into the top 100?

I'm getting a preview while finding screenshots. I'm pleased with quite a few of them. Not gonna lie, some of these screenshot choices are terrible and need fixing.

De Noorderlingen maybe?
Doing this from the top of my head, but i saw this title on quite a few lists i looked at... Of course you tend to only notice titles you've voted for or know yourself....

Muddy Rivers might take the overall top spot now, due to the increased exposure because of the WC.

But Sult is over 400 checks now and so won't be on the list. ;)

I personally think some of the Hungarian films will rise quite a bit and show up highly.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I won't name a certain film, but my bet would perhaps be on a film that was not in the WC, but perhaps a FoTW with good participation.

Should have checked that :)
So leave that one out and put Reconstruction on spot 5
It's all very broad guess work from my own favorites though... Although i feel pretty certain about my 1 and 2 spots

Now we're just waiting to see if Arthur can find some good replacements for old screenshots.

You're talking about the Romanian Reconstruction, I presume? The Danish film (which wasn't exactly applauded by most members) has over 500 checks.

I don't think so. Many people love him, also on this forum. I've only seen two of his films, of which one is very high among my favourites. Haven't seen his Reconstruction though.

I would be shocked if Hungary's The Fifth Seal didn't have the biggest WC boost. It was perhaps the most successful film of the first round.

The Fifth Seal was on last year's list, so there's a limit to how big of a jump it can make. The Shimmering Beast and Back to Back, Face to Face went from nothing to the top 500, so you could say that's a jump of about 13,000 spots.

I can reset your password for the original rzkz account and message you a new password on iCM.com and delete the two new accounts. You can then change your email address.
