So far most polls have been rather spontaneous and have been up to whatever the poll creator was interested in doing. This won't stop, obviously, no need to make things too structured. But how about voicing your interests. What do you think would be a great poll to have in the near future?
mjf edit:
How to host a poll:
1. Make the voting thread.
2. Download the IMDb and iCM lists at the deadline. You can use this program if you want, or you can do it manually. The filenames should be the usernames. If the list is unranked, put (unranked) at the end of the filename. If the list is partially-ranked, put (unrankedX) at the end of the filename, where X is the number of ranked films.
3. If you are using filmcounter6 or earlier, use the duplicate checker program to check for duplicates.
4. Use this program to calculate the results. The program should be in the same folder as the lists, and you should have a file called scoring.txt. The 1st line should be the half-life, and the 2nd line should be the point value of a #1 vote. Half-life=50 works well for most polls, but you may want to change it depending on the average list size. Optionally, if you want to make some films ineligible, create a file called ineligible.txt with a list of IMDb URLs (1 per line).
5. Use Excel to sort the lists by points, add the list to iCM (or IMDb), and export the list to get the titles and years.
6. Add screenshots to the spreadsheet.
7. Use an Excel formula to generate the result posts (you can reuse formulas from old poll spreadsheets).
8. Make the results thread, and copy/paste the result posts from the spreadsheet.
#6 and #8 are the most time-consuming steps, but people can help you with those if you want.
